Recent Review: My basement only had water come into it once after a downpour, but I definitely had a mold issue downstairs. Any object left in the basement developed mold if mold could possibly develop on that particular material. All other estimates were far cheaper, but the ValueDry presentation was far more professional and the work they proposed to do much more thorough. They give you a sales pitch about how much better their system is, and I recognized it was a sales pitch, but I decided not to take half measures and just get the whole job done. I could have scaled back the extent of the work, however. They gave me a number of options. Before the work started, I had an electrician install an electric outlet in the crawl space, per request of ValueDry. I got what I paid for. They told me in advance that they would be removing two of the four pine paneled walls in the den. They knocked a number of chips in one of the remaining walls and for some reason removed the crown molding on that wall even though they kept the wall. I went through their trashcan and recovered the wooden clothes hanger rack from a den closet and a wood attachment that goes with it. So I suppose that jackhammers and daintiness don't go together, but they got the job done. If you call their office in Baltimore, you may have to leave a message for the right person to call you back, but my calls were answered within a half hour. Here are more details about the job itself. They jackhammered through the concrete floor in three rooms (the family room/den plus bathroom and utility room) in order to install their type of pipe, as well as stone, mudguard, and flow channel. They went around the HVAC system in the utility room. Then they reinstalled the concrete floor. They removed two walls of 1959 pine paneling in order to cover the walls with a vapor barrier. They put the vapor barrier in the crawl space plus crawlspace drainage matting. The installed a closed-cell spray foam insulation vapor barrier in the crawl space. I got a sump well and 1/2 hp sump pump and a new battery back-up pumping system. They installed floor clean-outs, Jet-Kleen drain tile flushing systems. I have a new crawl space door and two EZ Breathe Ventilation Units, one for the basement and the other for the crawl, along with accompanying vents. Whenever I sell the house, I can check this off my list. There is nothing left to do on this issue.

Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing
Recent Review: Chuck arrived at my house and spent a good deal of time inspecting my crawl space. He then provided a clear explanation of the services they offer and the possible options I could go with. I did not feel pressured; I just felt that I was talking to a person who in a professional manner was trying to state the best case he could for his product. That's what salespeople do. One of the things that attracted me to Mid-Atlantic was the array of solutions they had for fixing water problems. I have had bad experiences with other waterproofers who bascially look at your basement for ten seconds then give you the "hard sell" for the only product they offer - a sump pump or a French drain - regardless of what you really need. In fact, up until recently I've had a very dim view of basement waterproofing companies in general - too aggressive and not trustworthy. This is what kept me from fixing my water problem two years ago, but I figured I'd try again. I've had Mid-Atlantic come out twice, once two years ago and once recently, and both times I was pleased with their professionalism. Two years ago they were the only company I had any respect for of the ones I called. I've read some of the other posts by members on Mid-Atlantic and yes, they tell you that "a crew is available from a canceled job and if you sign up now we can give you a cheaper price" and then you get the "a chief inspector wants to come out" call after the first visit. Despite that, I never received the impression that they were untrustworthy or did not provide a good service, just that they have a certain approach to the way they sell. If you work within their approach you can actually negotiate a pretty good price. I felt like I got a pretty good final price for the solutions they offer (several thousand dollars off the original price), which are more comprehensive than other waterproofers. In the end, I did choose another company who I called for the first time this year, but I came really close to choosing Mid-Atlantic. I wouldn't rule Mid-Atlantic out when shopping for a waterproofing solution, despite their current rating on Angie's List. When I read the actual reviews, I found that anyone who actually used their services gave them high ratings, but those who gave poor ratings did not give them work but were mostly put off by their sales technique. From my own research into this type of service, it really does seem that they have a quality product, although in the end I went with a solution I felt was more suitable for my needs.

Recent Review: We had this system installed years ago (after another company failed to solve our water problem in crawl space). It’s been working great ever since. The technician who recently inspected was professional polite and very knowledgeable. He took photos on his iPad so he could show me the system was going n fine working order. He even answeeed questions I had about our radon system.

Super Snooper Home Inspections LLC
Recent Review: Eric was impressively knowledgeable as well as professional. From the first time we talked, he impressed my husband and me with his commitment to a thorough home inspection. Eric showed up promptly for each of our meetings, checked all relevant elements of the home with meticulous care, and always explained his findings to us and the relative importance of each finding. He also reported all issues in writing for us and the home builder, with photos to aid his documentation, and supplied the report very promptly. My husband and I gained great peace of mind from his thorough inspections and believe he may have saved us from future headaches. We wholeheartedly recommend him as an inspector (and, based on the trust we have gained in him, we will retain him whenever relevant to help us with maintenance and with referrals to equally excellent companies for our home care needs!).

It went just great for the first couple of years. They were personable and caring. We recommended them to friends and neighbors and paid for a maintenance agreement. Then things went really bad. There was a storm which caused flooding and they refused to help us. Told us that it would be a couple of weeks before they could pump out the very deep water underneath. No assessment was done, just "sorry, can't do it". We hired someone else to help us pump out the water. Several days after we'd had the water pumped out, they did send someone over to look under the house. Move forward several months, we had our home lifted (because of the flooding) and an addition put on. They gave our contractor a bid of $14,000 to re-do our crawl space!! The area is not that large, (around 1500 sq feet)!!! Our contractor asked them to salvage some of the equipment prior to lifting the house so we could save some money. He reported to us that their response was it wasn't worth their time. We won't do business with them again.

This company installed the original system 5 years ago. Since then we have complained of damp odors. This company has either passed the buck on cause or recommended costly solutions.

It was amazing. From start to finish the job was perfect. We called DryZone to get a free inspection of our crawl space. We knew there had been some moisture under our home but never knew the extent of the damage. We had rarely ever gone down there. Amazing service started with our first phone call. We spoke with Amber - she was so kind and answered all of our questions. She even followed back up with us to make sure that we remembered our appointment. Lucky she did because I had totally forgot and needed to reschedule! Before the inspection we were sent information about the products and crawl spaces. it was very interesting and informative.  Derek came to the house and went into the crawl space. He was so friendly and funny. We felt so good having him in and around our home. After the inspection he was able to show us pictures of the crawl space, so we didn't have to get down there with him. He even showed us a video of our floor joist that were falling apart. We were able to see the mold and the wood rot. He explained that the mold is from the moisture and that air could be coming up into our home. My husband has had some serious allergy issues and now we know why. The mold under our home was invading our air in our home.  He gave us suggestions on what we can do. We never felt pressured to do anything. We were able to talk about the options and what we wanted to do. We checked with a few other companies in the area, but none of them could provide us with the information that DryZone gave us. We felt comfortable going with them because they sounded knowledgeable and experienced. We got back in touch with Derek a few days later and decided to go through with the encapsulation.  When the crew arrived, Mario greeted us with a smile and just like with the initial inspection, we felt great having these guys around our home. They cleaned our the old debris, installed the insulation, and the clean lining. After the work was complete they showed us pictures of the crawl space. It was BEAUTIFUL! I couldn't believe that it could look that amazing.  In October, we had a Nor'easter that caused flooding to our area and came right up to the house. After the storm I sent my husband down to the crawl space to check on things. To my disbelief it was completely dry. I couldn't believe it. This is what solidified it for me. This company promised me my crawl space would be dry and that is what they delivered. They saved my home. I am so thankful we spent the money and took care of our home. I am so happy.

FAmerispec Home Inspection
WARNING!  If you purchase a house DO NOT use AMERISPEC as your home inspection company.  We closed on our house Dec 17, 2014 and what a can of worms we have opened.  Live, learn, and PAY for it; which in our case as of June 23, 2015 is a total of $12,095.26 and we still have plumbing problems that are currently being worked on.  Our problems began when our propane bill was over $500 a month.  We have never had propane before and weren't sure of the amount we should be paying.  When we called an HVAC company to come and have a look at our ducting he found that there were leaks where the ducting was not sealed properly and also pointed out what he believed to be mold.  We called a mold company to do an appraisal and our worst fears were realized.  BLACK MOLD EVERYWHERE!  AMERISPEC has a clause in their inspection that they are not required to point out mold.  MOLD something that can cause so many health problems.  Our crawl space was riddled with mold, IN the air ducting blowing into our house, on the outside of the ducting, on pipes and on wood.  We are not talking about a small amount that could easily be missed.  They also failed to notice a toilet leaking (the contractor who fixed it said in his professional opinion had been leaking 18 months to 2 years!  The leaking toilet caused water damage to the wood beneath it and with the length of time of the leak the wood was rotted and had to be replaced.  There was a puddle of water in the crawl space during the home inspection which the inspector said was from the rain and if we got a crawl space cover problem solved.  WRONG there was a pipe leaking in our master bathroom behind the shower head panel.  The plumber had to cut out a piece of the wall to get to the pipe so he could replace the piece that was leaking.  We have also found a hole in the foundation in the crawl space.  I contacted AMERISPEC about all the problems we have had with the house and was informed of the mold clause and since we had already had the leaking pipe fixed there was nothing to be done about it.  Two people from AMERISPEC (which one was the lead inspector for the company) did come and look at the floor and said they would get back to us with a decision.  That was over a week ago now, who knows how long we will have to wait for an answer, they clearly do not care.  When the inspectors from AMERISPEC left our house after looking at the floor, I was told that we are going to disagree.  Disagree on what, the floor, the leaking pipes, the fact that you do not have to point out MOLD?  I want to know how a home inspection company does not have to point out mold?  We sought legal counsel and there is nothing we can do to file a claim since AMERISPEC has a mold clause.  I am just going to take to the internet and share our horror story of being first-time home buyers who trusted a home inspection company! The home inspectors name is Mike Horkey. If you value your families health especially if you have a young child like we do, and your hard earned money DO NOT use this company! They are completely incompetent and are not held liable.

Sean was there early with a friendly greeting and fully prepared to do his job. He explained the process very clearly and allowed me to follow him during the inspection. He was incredibly knowledgeable, extremely thorough, and pointed out even the smallest issues. He made several suggestions for improvements I could make and even walked me through the inspection and maintenance of appliances and different components of the house. If you are looking for an ultra professional home inspector look no further. Truly outstanding service.

FAmerispec Home Inspection
When we had our home inspected four years ago, we found several issues not reported in the inspection such as light switches that did not work, exhaust fans that did not work and a broken window. We are now selling our house and Amerispec inspected our home again for the next buyer. This time they wrote up several issues that have been present since the day we moved in. Why weren't these problems 4 years ago during our home inspection? Beware: no consistent standard among inspectors!
