Business Description: In 1993, after having been in the remodeling industry for over ten years, I found myself disillusioned. Although I loved the business of making people happy by helping to improve their home, I felt that the industry was living up to it’s less than stellar reputation. At the time, I was employed with one of the more reputable remodeling firms in Baltimore. They were placing more emphasis on getting the “sale” as opposed to delivering customer satisfaction. It became “promise anything to get the job, and then deliver as little as possible to protect profits.” Further, service was kept to a minimum because they applied more of a band-aid approach. This approach would temporarily mend a problem until the one-year installation warranty (required by law) ran out. Quality of products and pride in workmanship seemed to be gone by era. When the product did fail, whether due to manufacturing or installation, the finger pointing started and the homeowner was stuck in the middle. Why couldn't a homeowner find a remodeling company to perform the work they promised and stand behind that work? When a homeowner needed service on that remodeling project that they invested their hard earned money in, why did they always have to get the run around? Why did they have to pay for a service that should have been right in the first place? These were questions I posed to my wife. Her response was, “Joe, for homeowners to find that, you would have to start a company of your own.” That response launched the beginning of American Design and Build. The concept was simple; offer the highest quality windows, doors, siding and sunrooms. In addition, have each of those installed only by experts in each of their respected fields. Offer the products at the lowest possible price, and support the products, labor and materials, for as long as the manufacturers’ warranty. In other words, the product would perform as promised now and in the future and there would never be a charge for service. That was the concept in our dining room ten years ago. Others in the industry told me that I was crazy, that the service cost would put us out of business. Well, homeowners embraced the concept and referrals streamed in. These homeowners wanted their friends and relatives to “experience” American Design and Build. Fourteen years later, we no longer work out of our dining room. In fact, we recently moved from our 1200 square foot office building in Jarrettsville to our 6500 square foot state of the art showroom in Bel Air. One thing that has not changed is our original concept. In fact, our showroom is another step towards making a remodeling project with American Design and Build a unique and pleasurable “experience.” We really do believe in “restoring the pride in your home for today… and tomorrow.” I invite you to stop by our showroom today or get your free in-home estimate. Experience for yourself why American Design and Build is referred more often than any other remodeling company in the state.

Recent Review: Terry and Alex are the best of the best! Everything you could possibly want in contractors and more. Terry is highly skilled, detailed oriented, honest and reliable. He is a great communicator and super easy to work and so is Alex. What was so helpful for us was that Terry was able to draw up plans and get all of the necessary permits and provide suggestions based on his wealth of experience. His workmanship is topnotch. He doesn't cut corners and always seems more interested in doing the job right than making money. Another great thing is that while Terry could be a GC and just sub everything out, he does most of the work himself (framing, build deck, flooring, siding, window installs, etc etc) so you know you are getting his perfectionistic touch on your job at a very fair price. I also appreciated patience and flexibility, especially when we decided last minute to open up a kitchen wall and then add a huge window when he was almost done with the siding. Very grateful!

AYoder & Sons Construction LLC
Went well.  There was a small misunderstanding about the design, but it turned out that the deck had to be built the way it was.  There was a problem in removing a metal railing to the basement stairs, and this resulted in a delay in completion of the project and some additional costs, but these costs were absorbed by Yoder.

Overall great experience and lovely home. Took a little longer than expected but otherwise great builder. Coming from the South prices were more than what we expected, just get more home for your money down South. However, we couldn't have chosen a better builder and neighborhood in this area. Very impressed with our house!

AInsight Homes
From the very beginning the Sales Representative was informative, professional, and courteous.  My Wife and daughter and I picked out the house we wanted and the extras we had to have.  Many of the items you would find as extras by other builders are standard with Insight  Homes.  6 inch exterior walls, energy efficient appliances, lighting, insulation and much more.  We added a large deck and a breakfast nook to the house.  From the start of construction at the end of October 2013 to closing on January 15 2014 (under 80 days) the Project Manager did an excellent job coordinating work and materials.  The end product is excellent with quality workmanship aparent.  None of the hassals you usually experience with builders.  From the beginning everything was spelled out and extras included in the contract.  No surprises, no fighting, a lot of communication from the beginning to the end.  Trully a great experience. I would recommend this builder to anyone that is looking for a quality product at a reasonable price.

Schell Brothers use extensive advertising in the DE beach area. However, we lost a substantial amount of money dealing with them. They made a serious error in building our home and they were unwilling to take responsibility and correct it.

FDELMARVA POLE BUILDING SUPPLY
The building looks great, the subcontractors did a great job. I had a 30 x 32 garage building put up in my backyard last summer. Everything was ok, until they sent a load of dirt here that wasn't ordered and the truck damage my driveway (when I provided a alternate route that was disregarded). I notified Delmarva Pole building the minute it happened and provided them pictures of the damage. I also stated then that I just bought dirt two days before and I was to be handling the dirt . Three weeks later get a call from a collections representative that my account was past due. Approximately three weeks after completion of the job, I was sent to collections agency . I was told that the damage to my driveway is a part of construction process and they were going to do nothing about it. There was also about $700 in extra charges on the bill that the collection agency couldn't account for either. To send somebody to collections that soon, I think is a little shady, (I think ) but will have to let the court decide which it's coming up soon. It's sad to ruin such good work by such poor customer service I would not recommend them . Also during the whole building process aproximally two months, the job supervisor was here one time and that was in the beginning to lay out the building never again did I see him or anyone else they just sent subcontractors out, The Amish framers were great and did excellent work and the roofing and siding local subcontractor also did great work.

AC-F-S CONSTRUCTION CO
Tom Miller and his team did an outstanding job.  From contact to communications to the build the project was exemplary.  I used to be a project manager in the DC area building new homes.  I would have been proud to have these guys on my payroll.  The framing is old school excellence.  It's almost a shame it was covered up.  Minimum requirements are irrelevant.  These guys know how to frame to last generations.  The bathroom's extensive tile work is outstanding, particularly impressive given how wonky the old house is.  Tom and his team are outstanding professionals and I wish I could import them to remodel my house in Maryland.  It can be challenging to find good contractors, if you get CFS, you can be confident you have the right firm.

FDILSHEIMER COMMUNITIES
Construction delayed due to very bad winter weather, then rushed during spring & summer of 2003. Move-in day: muddy path from driveway because slate walkway had not been installed; when slate was finally installed it retained puddles (feet wet walking from driveway to front door), their proposed ?solution? was to remove a strip soil next to walkway, which would have been unsightly (my husband put crushed rock underneath & replaced slate, which was the solution, which they had refused to do); grading of property extremely poor: swale at side/back became a one-to-two-week ?lake? after each rain (we contacted County inspector who exerted pressure to fix and then add the promised topsoil ( ?soil? was mainly road construction debris & clay); concrete basement floor badly cured, surface chalked badly, impossible to apply concrete paint without heavy scraping on our part; and moisture from curing concrete (likely poured after framing-in) caused plywood underlayment of vinyl kitchen floor to warp, rising about 6?. Notwithstanding the Home Warranty, they refused to replace vinyl flooring but merely put in a patch, of inferior quality & not exact color, patch deteriorated & bllistered to the point floor had to be replaced. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Beyond ?F? ? not describable in polite company. Dilsheimer Senior had a wonderful reputation in the building industry as a high-quality builder. Unbeknownst to us when we decided to purchase our home, he had retired and turned over business to his sons. Our assumption that the company would continue to provide the same quality homes was way off. PRICE: overpriced for the quality (i.e., lack of quality) of construction and follow-up service. Two years prior we had had a house built in central Florida for about the same price, but of much, much higher quality.  QUALITY OF THEIR WORK: overall ?F? a list of ONLY some of the problems: house wrap never installed in places on exterior walls--project by front door necessitated temporary removal of vinyl siding at which point we discovered this; abysmal interior paint job (sags, drips on walls, poor surfaces on trim, paint drips on carpet; house sill (framework to concrete basement walls) not sealed/caulked, allowing hundreds of crickets to infest basement; lavatory bowl in one bath chipped & deliberately covered with paint ?speck? to disguise damage; heating duct on floor immediately next to toilet in master bath (a potentially serious problem if toilet overflowed or other mishap due to illness; wall/ceiling juncture at wall dividing dining area from rest of home mismeasured and off?they refused to repair citing infinitesimal measurement difference; quality of double-paned windows so poor that interiors ice up in winter; walking on the floor in dining area caused dishes to rattle on the hutch ?so-called fix (nailing a single board between several rafters) did nothing to improve; cold air entering from lower section of back door, worker pushed a 6-7? piece of felt, rather than replace improper weatherstripping. RESPONSIVENESS: promptness ?C? followed by incompetent or inadequate service consequent to our complaints: ?F? PROFESSIONALISM: Not very professional. We did the walk-thru immediately prior to closing at attorney?s offce, the carpet apparently littered with construction dust, not vacuumed, told they hadn?t yet had time to do so, but they would finish clean-up by the time we had returned later that afternoon from attorney?s office. (not done I suspect probably so we wouldn?t realize that carpet had multiple paint spatters.) Maintenance foremen repeatedly made excuses, such as ?your problem with the kitchen vinyl was caused by water, you should be careful when you open the dishwasher.? Of course, totally specious excuse, sheet vinyl flooring is washed with damp mop). Builder attempted ?payback? after they were required to re-grade swale & top with real topsoil by sending us an order in violation of FCC regulations & Federal case law to remove our rooftop TV dish.
