Recent Review: This was a pretty big job. We bought this house a year ago: the previous A/C system (installed at least 20 years ago, we're guessing) wasn't done properly, resulting in poor airflow to some parts of the house and some mold in the ductwork (which the Brennan guys found when we called them for an inspection). They installed a new Carrier A/C unit (indoor and outdoor pieces, plus thermostat) and replaced most of the ductwork in our home. Job was completed on-time for the price quoted, and the new system seems to be working well. We ran into one hitch a week later, when the moisture sensor in the water-trap pan under the AC went off: I called them on a Saturday night, and they sent someone Sunday morning who was able to fix it with a minor adjustment (our A/C unit is in the attic, and the issue was caused by a few drops of water "sweating" from the unit landing right next to the moisture sensor). Of course, the return trip was covered by the warranty, but it was nice to see them respond so quickly.

Recent Review: One of the reasons I chose to go with this company is that they had done similar jobs in homes like mine before. The person who provided the estimate was professional and gave a detailed explanation of all work that would be performed. The installation took the amount of time estimated, the job was completed as agreed, and the workers cleaned up after themselves before they left. A manager also showed up when the job was done to make sure the system was functioning correctly. Company seems to work like a well-oiled machine.

Carolina Air Care LLC
Recent Review: Our ductwork under the house in the crawlspace hadn't been replaced since right after Hugo, so it was definitely time. I looked on Angie's List for people who did this type of work and found Carolina Air Care. Wasn't sure if they would be interested in the job, because they are based in Summerville and I lived on James Island. Not only did they take the job, but they were quick, professional, and left the area cleaner than it was when they arrived! It was a pleasure to work with them. If you need ductwork replaced, don't even bother scouting around. Call Carolina Air Care!

Thomas E Clark Inc
Recent Review: Came home one Friday night to discover the heat wasn't working. Had only been in our home a month at that point. Called Thos E Clark based on AL reviews. Technician was able to come the next afternoon. He was punctual, polite, and very professional. He immediately discovered the problem: a dead bird had matriculated down through the chimney into the furnace exhaust, ultimately jamming the inducer assembly. With that problem solved, he then checked the draft of the furnace, discovering a potentially serious problem that was causing CO to leak. The technician came back the next day (Sunday) and fixed our draft problem. Work was performed efficiently and at a very reasonable cost. The technician explained everything he was doing, before he did it, and why he needed to do it. I was extremely satisfied with my experience.

Recent Review: Our 2-year-old AC unit mysteriously went out the first few days of June this year. We found Polar Bear in the Capitol Hill community resource book and gave them a call. Initially, they sent over a technician who tried to diagnose the problem and remedy it. He found that there was something wrong with the pressure, so he recharged our coolant. That solution didn't work, so Joe came over and got to work on our system. He was very polite and professional, and always punctual. After several fits and starts, the problem was diagnosed and addressed. Our ductwork was improperly installed, and the AC unit was pumping out more air than the ducts could distribute, creating a pressure issue. As a result, it blew out the (2-year-old) AC unit. They took care to offer us a workable temporary solution until the off-season. Joe cut holes in our duct work as a temporary pressure release, replaced our AC unit, and gave us an estimate to re-do our ductwork that had been incorrectly installed in the first place. It took four trips out and plenty of frustration on everyone's part, but through it all, I was confident that Joe was offering us the best solution for our house. I can't speak to the pricing - with major issues like this, I'm not keen on shopping around for the lowest bid. I just looked for the best service. In terms of professionalism, experience and trustworthiness, I was extremely happy with Polar Bear. It's a lot easier to be positive now that my home is cooled.

Recent Review: We had a small miscommunication with the length of time for the project (fyi, it takes several days), but once I walked up into my attic and saw the work, I was happy as can be. I am so excited to feel the cool air in all of our rooms and watch my electric bill drop since the ductwork is all sealed up. I also highly recommend that you do this work in the off season.

ROBINSON'S HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
Recent Review: This was a great experience, and has me wondering why I didn't get around to installing central AC earlier!  Bill came over to look at what needed done, and gave me different options for how they could run the ductwork and where they could install the new machinery.  He was very straightforward about what he thought would work best, given the configuration of my house.  Because he thought creatively about how the ducts and air exchanges could be placed, I didn't lose ANY closet space -  a real bonus in an older house.   That afternoon I had an estimate with several options priced out, and his pricer called me to make sure I understood what was in the estimate and to discuss the different equipment options.  Once I signed the contract, the office manager was able to schedule the work quickly.  The guys showed up (on time!!)  on the day the work was to start, and they finished everything in two days - the original estimate was three days.  They left the house, including the basement, very clean and did a great job of placing the air vents where they would blow maximum air into the room with minimal impact on the visual aesthetics of the space.  They were also very good about working around my dogs - I have one dog who is scared to death of people she doesn't know, and I was afraid she would nip one of the team.  But they were so kind to her, fed her a few treats and gave her a few pats on the head, and she settled and let them get vents into "her" dog room.  The AC is working great, even in the upstairs attic space that is now the master bedroom. They were also able to run ducts into an upstairs bathroom that was very tricky to get to, again - thinking creatively about how to make that work.  I never thought that the upstairs space would get cool, but it has been very comfortable even in this wave of warm weather we've had. Wonderful experience from start to finish, I would recommend them to anyone who was retrofitting AC into an old home.

Recent Review: This family- owned company is a pleasure to work with. In recent years we have asked them to design and install ductwork for a downdraft gas cooktop, provide and install a new A/C system with new plenums, provide annual service for our two A/C systems. They are a cheerful, thoughtful, hardworking group. Most recently Andy did our A/C service and a piping repair. He arrived on time, put on his hospital-style shoe covers, asked a few questions and got to work. When he was done he explained the work he had done. All at a reasonable price.

Overall the work was accomplished in the contracted time. The cleanup and follow through were excellent. Even now several months after the install any minor glitches are repaired quickly and if install related there are no charges. Recently found that condensation was excessive in heat pump area. Waiting to have additional insulation installed. Installation completed in timely and professional manner.
