Recent Review: The Better-Built-Basements team was discovered at the Mohegan Sun Home Show in January 2012. After researching similar contractors, Better-Built was selected and contacted in March 2012. Two representatives visited our home and the layout process was begun. My wife and I knew pretty much what we wanted and the Better Built team helped us to create a plan. This phase took about two months. After a delay on our part, construction began in August 2012. The completion date was established at Nov 30, 2012. The project was actually completed in April, 2013. Delays in the project did create some consternation for my wife and me. However, the final results made any inconvenience, well worth it! A lead foreman was assigned to our project. The entire team took great measures to make sure we got exactly what we wanted (which we did). The project continued to evolve throughout the entire timeframe. The Better Built Team helped (and guided) us to pick out materials, including wood, lighting, electronics, flooring, and plumbing. They were able to use the irregular ceiling levels (due to heating ducting, carrying beams, etc) into distinct ceiling heights with crown molding that helped to define the different areas of the room (i.e. bar, theater, office, fitness room) They assisted with the selection of bar appliances, bathroom fixtures and theater electronics such as a large screen TV and audio. They provided flooring and paint samples. We called upon a female on their staff who helped to make color, fixture, lighting and layout choices. We consulted her throughout the entire project. She was really indispensable. The work site was kept clean throughout. A cleanup was conducted at the end of each work day. The workmanship is stunning. All carpentry and woodwork including the bar, fireplace surround and mantle, chair rail, crown molding, bar, and bar and bath cabinets, doors (standard and pocket) was done by experienced craftsmen; staining and painting really perfect. The surround sound system was installed by an experienced young man who made good recommendations and helped to make some subtle changes that made the TV viewing area much better. The building inspector confided in us that our basement was the nicest that he had ever seen! (really!!) When our friends visit our room for the first time (we haven't given it a name yet) their jaws literally drop. Overall, the Better Built Team is a professional team of designers and builders. Their sub contractors were amazing, taking great pride in their work and acting as if the work they did was for themselves. The final result far exceeded our expectations! We are so proud of our entertainment center and naturally, we LOVE IT!

Recent Review: Lenny came to house and spent a lot of time with us to come up with a plan as to what we wanted to do. He came by a few days later and we went over his ideas and suggestions. He scheduled a meeting for us with cabinet people. He sat in on our planning session with them and counseled us on what would work and what wouldn't. After we signed a contract, (very professional contract) he gave us a sheet with a time-line as to what would be done when and by who. He made all the arrangements with electricians, plumbers, cabinet/counter top people. Everyone showed up on time, did what they were suppose to do, picked up after themselves. We were amazed to come home to a clean house every night. If Lenny didn't see us when he was there, he would call later to check on if everything was okay. His helper was a very good craftsman, and did a wonderful job on installing crown molding, cabinets, sheet rock etc They both were very detailed oriented and things had to be done right. No shortcuts. The custom made center island made from cabinets fronts and sides to match our new wall cabinets is outstanding. He made a tile top and put in on hidden wheels so we can move it around. Beautiful. Work was done on time and stuck true to the plan. No surprises along the way. A few minor changes that we were made aware of and given an explanation as to why it had to be done. Not done until we approved it. These won't be the least expensive guys you will find, but they'll be worth every penny. My wife still mentions every once and a while about how professional and neat they were while doing our job. She says Lenny is the best contractor we have every had to do work for us. I would agree.

ASALINAS ENTERPRISE LLC
We had an overall great experience with Salinas Enterprise. Owner Eric Salinas called us back in literally seconds and was quoting our job that day. Everything was handled in a professional matter and the company worked very hard to finish our renovation on our house that we needed to get done quickly since we were selling. All renovations were done- including drywall, painting, wood floors placed, window repairs, a deck built and an extension off of our den. We were very happy with the service, and the personal attention we got with a hands on approach as we worked closely to ensure we got what we wanted-and we did! Thanks! Overall Great!

Skip the carpenter was great.  He knows what he is doing.  He told us that he'd been a carpenter for 27 years.  However, I don't think he read the manufacturer's installation manual.  Yes he could just look at anything and he could install it because of his experience.  However, it null and void the warranty for not following the instruction.

AThe Hampton Remodeling Co LLC
Preface: My home is a 1740 National Landmark Pre-move In: When we moved in you could not tell that any thing was done, but I could get into the upstairs bathroom and my office had a door. Lower Bathroom Renovation: This started as putting in a door so we could get to the hot tub and sauna. When they gutted the rooms they found rot and bug damages, as the best contractor they informed us and gave us the options (most contractors would have just covered it up). They did as we requested and where on time until the custom tile maker delayed the finish. Laundry Room Update: Done in a day, I never could tell that they were there except we had cabinets with a beautiful molding. An-other Contractor Paint Job: Worked us into his schedule and only delayed the paint job by one day. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT IN A CONTATOR!! Misc. Handyman Work: ? Replaced window and rotted wall in servant?s room - Small room in back of house that leaked. Replaced window and wall ? We have no leaks ? Repaired drawers in kitchen ?done within days ? Repaired door?took to work shop and done within days ? I do not slam doors any more. ? Replaced storm doors ? Replaced my manufacture

FCARO'S PAINTING & REMODELING LLC
He started the job close to 4 weeks late - after that a 3 week job went into over 5 weeks. He performed the sloppiest tile work on the wall tile, ruining all four walls and $1900 work of wall tile - I have learned since how much I was overcharged for the tile - and was not happy about that. At first I found the specialty tiles I ordered were not spaced properly so I made him rip out part of the top of the wall. On further inspection of the subway tiles on the wall - they were just slapped on - many areas on all 4 walls were not smooth with tiles sticking out unevenly. I had never had a remodel done before in my home and trusted him. When I confronted him on this - he did not see it as a bad job, would not give me a straight answer, amd he told me he had personally installed subway tile before citing all his great experience. I had to get other opinions - other contractors when they came to look told me it was not acceptible and unprofessional. So far 4 professionals have had the same opinion of his work. When I told him how I wanted things done - ie. the color grout - he came back with a different color. When I told him how I wanted the listellos and chair rail tiles done - he did it differently. He did not do the corners of the tile properly, putting in slivers because he did not meaure properly and he did not use bullnose tile where it was needed - all in all the job was amateur. I could have probably done it better. He did not clean up the mess in my garage - which I ended up doing twice. Plus he left smudge marks on some of my walls which I will end up repainting. There were at least 2 days where no one showed up and I was not told in advance, as he started the job close to 4 weeks late I did not want further delays and did not expect this. When he told me he scheduled his subcontracters to come at times the time/day they showed up was different and he did not tell me. I have to give him credit for a few things - he was able to gut the original bathroom, he did some crown molding which turned out nice, the paint job he did turned out OK, and the floor tile looks good. The happiest I was, was with the people he hired to do the electrical and plumbing work. I ended up firing him - luckily I did not pay him the full amount and he did refund me the cost of the tiles. He wanted to make it up to me - he said he'd prepare the wall and bring in a tile guy, which I questioned because he tells me he is so professional so why would he need one. I could not accept his offer to fix what he claimed were and quot;myand quot; issues. I did not want any more aggravation and he never saw anything wrong with what he had done - he kept saying he was a professional, trained by one of the best with over 10 years experience. I am having someone come in to fix the mess he made which will include, moving all the fixtures, taking down all four walls of tile and redoing it all. This is going to be costly and I have to live with this until someone else has time to do the job. I think the pictures I attached speak for themself. This turned out to be a mess - I found he was not paying attention to what he was doing at all. For me a good part of the experience with him was frustrating - there were nights when I lost sleep. After shopping around more it was evident there were more reasonable prices for a bathroom remodel - in terms of thousands of dollars savings. If this is what you want - it's your choice.
