ABuild All LLC
Very well.  Nado Neves was professional and very helpful, giving me advice in the estimate about what I had to replace and what I didn't (.e.g., he told me I didn't have to replace the stairs on my back porch, which were sound but needed painting, but just the planking on top, which someone had replaced with non-pressure treated wood).  The estimate was significantly lower than the other two estimates I got (975 v. 1300 and 2100).  He then worked with my difficult schedule (there was only a week window in which the job could be done, and I had to leave town 3 weeks after we agreed on the job) to get the job done.  The job was done very quickly (only one day of work by his team, with Nado coming to check and fix some details that weren't done to his satisfaction the next day), and was done well.  I could also tell that Nado cared about preserving the quality of my house, which is 100 years old--he gave me advice, for example, about cutting away some shrubs that had grown near the foundation.  I would definitely use Build All again, and would recommend it to others.

I reached out to this company to get an estimate on a fixing up an existing staircase. My message was promptly returned and I was given a ballpark estimate to help me to determine if the project was within my budget. I decided not to pursue the work at this time because a friend volunteered to help me do it. Although I chose not to work with the company for this project, they are a company that I would be happy to work with in the future.

AThe Magic Handyman
Greg did an excellent job of making 4 very rickety steps in our half staircase nice and sturdy and of making me feel safer.  This did not seem to be a simple task because even I could see how poorly the initial construction had been done, but he put in extra bracing to make them secure.  Great job! He also responded very quickly to my initial call and kept me informed of everything that he would do, what my choices were regarding the job, why it might cost more or less as he got into it, etc.  Greg and his wife / assistant Diane are professional, thorough, knowledgeable, friendly, and great to do work with.  I am completely satisfied with his work.   He will be doing another job for me in the next couple of weeks also ... so happy I found Magic Handyman on Angie's List!

A&W hung two sets of doors for me in the basement, and put in new skirting on my stairs (to cover ugly skirting that was revealed when I switched from carpeted stairs to wood). Their work was top-notch.

DOne Stop Remodeling
I hired Mr. Harris in May of 2015, with the stipulation that the job had to be finished before July 4, 2015.  I told him I had an important event planned for 7/4/15 and that if he could not complete the job, he should just tell me so and I would find someone else.  He said he could get the job done by 7/4/15.  I showed him my staircases and told him I wanted them rebuilt exactly as they were.  He said fine and took some photos.  He also suggested that his team sand and paint the deck railings and I agreed.  The first I saw of his team was June 26, 2015.   They came out, took some measurements and left.  I was getting nervous so I again contacted Mr Harris.  He assured me the job would be done on time.  By July 2nd, the job was nowhere near finished.  I contacted Mr. Harris and asked that, at the very least, could they remove the big pile of debris in my front yard before my party.  The team worked late on July 3rd but still did not finish.  When I called Mr. Harris to complain, he launched into a diatribe about how I wanted the stairs built the wrong way and he had no idea the job would be so extensive.  Recall that he took photos initially and said he could do the job.  I think he was not paying attention very well.  He said a third stringer should be installed, for strength and stability, and I showed him the debris pile where two stringers had been removed.  I expected that the stringers would be replaced, since he told me that was the correct way to do it, but they never were.  On the morning of July 4th, I got up very early and began cleaning.  We swept up sawdust, picked up screws, nails, water bottles, and cigarette butts (one of the workers chain smoked and used my yard as his ashtray).  The big pile of debris was in my driveway and I could do nothing about that.  One stairway was rebuilt and useable, the other was not rebuilt and there was yellow caution tape covering the gate.  I was mortified that my guests had to see my patio and front yard in such a state.  On July 6, I demanded that Mr. Harris come out and look at the work before it continued.  He came to the house and we showed him all the problems with the work that my brothers in law had pointed out to me on July 4.  Basically, it was a mess.  Nothing lined up as it should, improper flashing was installed, the list goes on and on.  They had even attempted to reuse some of the old rotting boards, which we insisted they remove.  I asked Mr. Harris to stop work for a week because my daughter was home studying for the bar exam.  He did so, and work resumed on July 13th.  We found some rotted wood under the second set of stairs and asked that his team repair this.  He did so, for an additional $350, which I thought was pretty bold considering that he was in breach of contract. At this point I should note that I am a gardener and I spend a lot of time in my yard tending to plants.  One evening, near the end of the project, I found 40+ nails thrown into my flower bed!  I picked most of them out and again complained to Mr. Harris.  My last point of concern is the fact that only one member of his team spoke English and we had difficulty communicating with the supposed English speaker.  The team was dropped off each morning and picked up each evening, which led me to ask where the men used the bathroom.  The answer?  In my yard.  Again, as a gardener, I was not happy with this response.  Mr. Harris notes in other rebuttals to poor reviews that he is on-site at the beginning of the job, the middle of the job, and the end of the job.  The only time he came to my job was when I demanded that he do so.  I am sure that he will have some sort of sassy response as to why this job came out poorly but I would advise you to read his reviews carefully, especially the ones that involve woodwork.  The only reason I did not give him an "F" was that near the end of the job he brought in an expert who really whipped the project into shape.  I wish I knew the name of this person as he truly did a great job.

AAlberts Home Repair
Beautiful work--the stairs look great and will last for decades. I wanted the look and quality of the stairs to be consistent with the house, which was built in 1917 and is on the State Historic Register. Albert was very responsive to and respectful of my fussiness. The work was done in two days, with no mess left behind either day.

ABob Smith Carpentry
Everything went very smoothly, including the skunk removal.  He was very efficient.  The person who built the porch did not provide support under one corner of the construction, and the stairs were beginning to sag in that direction.  Bob lifted the stairs, excavated a space, and put in a support pier.

Armend arrived on time, ready to work. He was very professional and I was truly impressed with the speed in which he completed the job. After each task, he would have me inspect the work that was done for approval before moving on to the next task. He also cleaned up thoroughly after he was finished, which is a win in my book. I am definitely going to use him in the very near future.
