Recent Review: Doug came to assess the work needed and give me an estimate on refinishing a 15 year old deck. He provided me with options and suggested a product that would protect the deck. His workers were prompt and efficient. They sanded and power washed the deck, and returned the next week (rain intervened) and completed the applications of deck stain. Additionally they built a framework so I could hang rollup shades on the west side of the deck, and installed the shades. The invoice reflected the accurate estimate, so I was pleased with the project overall. I highly recommend Decks by Schmillen!
Recent Review: Crowder came out and gave us an estimated quote. They had to reschedule a few times due to weather. The first day they came out all prep work was done. Then when the weather cooperated they came in to finish. They were very proffessional, all work was cleaned up after and the painting job was excellent. I was most impressed with the care they took painting around the winter dead vines that wrapped around the porch. They did this causing no damage and that took some time effort and care. All around a very good experience and we will definitely call them again.
Recent Review: I wanted to preserve the color of the new redwood deck but protect it from the elements. I did get conflicting advice from the provider and Sherwin-Williams. I wasn't really happy with the color of the stain and felt that it was not applied as well as it could be. I should have done a little more research.
I had used Rick previously and was impressed by his professionalism and hard work. I contracted with him to refinish my deck and gazebo with Restore. Rick suggested waiting until the weather had cooled rather than applying the product in the full heat of summer. As it turned out, the time he chose to work on the gazebo coincided with the horrendous September rains and my vacation. Being gone was no problem; Rick is trustworthy and he worked around the rains and had the job done in less than three days. Rick emailed me a picture of the finished work so I could review it and it looked fantastic. It looked even better in person. Rick had not worked with the Restore before but his work looked like it had been done by someone who had worked with the product for years! I am totally pleased with Rick's work, his pleasant attitude, and his creativeness in getting something accomplished and making it look easy and fabulous.

Deck came out perfectly, wonderful job. The house ended up with a few spots though where the paint was not fully applied or washed off due to weather (the crew was rushing on the last day to complete the work prior to it raining). When notified of the problem however Peter came out, verified the problem and made sure that it was redone properly. We are fully satisfied with the final quality of the work and the care that was used in painting the house. Missed a few things in the final cleanup where we had to go around the yard picking things up. Nothing major.

Doug consistently exceeds our expectations for responsive, quality service, at very reasonable cost. He is a general handyman capable of most household repair and remodeling tasks, and has a number of qualified sub-contractors to assist him as necessary to meet deadlines driven by tenant turn over in rental properties. Doug tackles small and large jobs with the same enthusiasm; completes the work in a timely manner; and bill us promptly. We depend on him to keep our homeowners and our tenants satisfied.

DEmpire Roofing & Restoration
The roofing went fine. Gutters and siding repairs eventually came. We were told there was a brief wait. I am writing this in March of 2017 and the final work has yet to be completed. I have called and emailed. We keep getting the run around. We get promises that we will be contacted "next week," but next week we never hear anything. Empire claims that there are employees who have been let go. Perhaps there is chaos in their organization, but the very least they can do is keep their customers who have contracted their services in the loop as to when restoration will be completed. We have been civil and respectful. Empire just placates our complaints and never does anything to bring our contract restoration to completion.

Doug was prompt for every visit, patient in sharing the different options we had to choose from and provided a detailed estimate for each option. On the day of the work, he and his team brought all they needed and were able to sand, coat and replace the rotted joists in one day. I was impressed not only by their professionalism and speed, but by the attention to detail and quality of their work. When we ever need deck work, we will definitely be called Decks by Schmillen!

ACamBe Precision Framing & Construction
The best part of working with Cambe is the expectation setting. Cameron spent a lot of time making sure he knew exactly what we wanted before he started the project and again at every step of the way to make sure we were always on the same page. We had plans drawn up by a professional architect before we started. Cameron had several suggestions on design for functionality and cost that we hadn't considered. One was placement of windows, type and the addition of several extra ones to provide a more open look. He was extremely patient with us regarding changes or bouncing ideas off of him. We probably had him do a lot more research than he planned but never seemed to have a problem spending the time. It never changed his fee. He gave the feeling that he was always thinking cost, appeal and functionality as if he were building this project for himself. That spoke volumes to me. Cameron had a unique way of managing cost/pricing. It was completely open book which is something I really appreciated. I knew the cost of each sub and materials (ie electrical, plumbing, stucco, framing, etc) before their work even began. If I thought some estimates were too high, Cameron would get additional estimates. His GC cost was already built into the project and it did not change. I paid the invoices for each sub for their respective work. Cameron did better than expected bringing the project in under the costs he estimated. The only deviations were for work we added to the overall project, such as painting the entire house, doing more window replacement, adding a storm door, etc. And all this was done at prices far below having individual tradesmen come out and me managing the scheduling for each. Cameron was on site to get each of the different tradesmen started on their part. He was familiar with just about all of them. For those he didn't know as well he was on site the whole time they did any work indoors. The back side of my house was open for a time so this was especially important for my wife to be comfortable with all the different folks that were working on the house. She never had an issue with feeling insecure. All the tradesmen were very professional and personable. We had a couple of snags during this 4 month project. One had to do with the stucco match between the existing portion of the house and the addition. Cameron got this worked with the stucco sub and the final product looks great. There were a couple of leaks where water was seeping between the walls and subfloor. Turned out to be the way the flashing was cut during the gutter install. Got that fixed well before I did the flooring. With any project this size I expected there would be delays between getting some tradesmen on site. Cameron explained this ahead of time and continuously kept us updated on the schedule and what was going to happen in sequence multiple weeks in advance. The final product was a dream come true for my wife and me. We had first drawn up plans for this project 8 years earlier. Now it's a reality. It looks great. Thanks CamBe!
