PRO FLOORING BROKERS
Recent Review: There was a little problem with the flooring in terms of measuring out the square footage and ordering the proper amount of flooring, but I think it was poor handwriting and reading it wrong. Overall, we were pleased with their work. My partner, who is meticulous, did most of the comparisons and decided that this was a good company to go with. The bamboo used by the manufacturer was older. Like in hardwood, the more the rings, the sturdier the bamboo is. The bamboo they used had a darker stain. It was a fairly new offering, but it was something we always wanted. The flooring installation company gave us a demo to show its durability. The sturdiness of bamboo depends on its age, how it is cut, and the number of plies. We have had it for a while. We have a few scratches but they look like they are more on the surface and not all the way through. We have a dog and her nails are not always cut. Although she runs, stretches, and slides with her nails on the floor when I play with her, we haven't had any major problems with that. The product is good. The owners of Pro Flooring were very responsive when we talked to them. However, they hired a new woman, I don't know what her title was, but she was not as responsive. There was a delay in the project because of a mix-up in the orders and there was a lack of response in terms of returning calls. It was quite frustrating. The guys that came out were definitely punctual. They were there when they scheduled for the day. There was one delay in the project, but it was nobody's fault. One of the primary installers came down with the flu and we didn't want him in the house. All of them were professional except for the one employee.

Jim's Floor Service
Recent Review: I will never call anyone else to do flooring work in my house. After this job, Jim will always be my floor guy. When I called Jim on Wednesday to schedule an appointment for an estimate, it only took about 10 minutes to complete. The area I needed floors installed in was about 230 square feet and I had already started the job, but could not finish due to a back injury. I also had a very specific brick pattern that I wanted continued. Jim assured me that it would not be an issue. He did the calculations on the spot and the price he quoted was great. When I asked how soon they could get to it as I was eager to get it done quickly, he said that his crew could likely get to it on the following Monday. I was thrilled because completing the floor had been delayed for months by our other projects and we just wanted to have our dining room back. On Friday, Jim called me and asked if his crew could come on Saturday. Since we wanted to get the floor done ASAP we said yes. Wally and Steve arrived on Saturday and it was clear that Jim had already spoken with them regarding our wishes and how the job was to be completed. We walked through and confirmed how everything was to be done. Wally and Steve were polite, hard working and obviously are gifted with their craft. They worked quickly and paid great attention to all the details, recreating perfectly the pattern that I had started. Mid-way through the project we realized that there was a closet that we needed to have the floor installed in as well that I had forgotten to show to Jim and have included in the bid for the job. I asked the crew if they would mind including this in the Job as well if I ran it by Jim and they quickly agreed to it. When I called Jim to inquire about the closet, he didn't hesitate to give his approval and the guys did it without a complaint. They cleaned up after themselves and treated my home the way I would imagine they treat their own. We simply could not be happier with the work.

Recent Review: They put up with all of our idiosyncratic requests - including LED lighting, Ikea cabinets, High tech thermostats, Amazon.com chandeliers, Costco backsplash and bamboo flooring, unboxed appliances from multiple vendors, and Ikea's granite vendor - without a whimper. They put everything together seamlessly and the end product was completed promptly and efficiently. Our new kitchen is spectacular! Thanks so much - Levi, Max, Scott, Tony, Kyle and everyone else who helped!

Recent Review: The job was done well, on budget and on time.  I sent an email from Angie's list to JVI on May 1st, and received a response the next day.  There was a little delay in receiving the formal estimate, but upon receiving it, there were no surprises.  The estimate was as we discussed and the work was completed by the date I had requested, on May 27th, 2011. I will definitely use JVI's services again, as further work needs to be done, and would recommend them to others.  I found the service very competent, affordable, and friendly.

Recent Review: For the most part, the work went really well. The work took place in an older building, and the walls and corners of the kitchen weren't plumb, so Dan struggled to get the Ikea cabinets to fit correctly. However, he glued and pinned them all to make them sturdy enough to hold a granite counter-top without wobbling, and even fabricated a nice glass-fronted fill-in cabinet to fit in an odd space. That said, the work took a bit longer than expected. By contrast, the work in the bathrooms was, quite simply, superb. We went with 1950s style subway tile with some decorative additions, and Dan made sure that turned out beautifully. One bathroom required the construction of a new tiled top for a vanity, and demolition of both revealed some really questionable work done in the past. Dan described the problems found, recommended a good solution, and implemented it. As a result, the bathroom work was outstanding. The job also required laying some new flooring, and that part proved a bit problematic. I chose inexpensive bamboo flooring that flexed a lot in Colorado's dry climate. Also, it lay on bare concrete, which made it hard to pin in place. That part of the job didn't go as well as the rest. I also had them replace a very poorly-done interior french door with a sliding barn door. That required some drywall work, paint and some electrical. That turned out better than expected, and I was quite pleased. As I look back, I'd say the work went as well as could be reasonably expected, given the circumstances, while the bathroom work qualifies as simply outstanding. I'd recommend this firm, with the following qualifications: 1. In an older building, go with traditional wooden cabinets instead of tightly-engineered pressed-board. It gives these guys the flexibility they need to finish the work quickly, and they're more comfortable with the old-school technology. Talk to them about the cabinets they recommend, before buying anything. I didn't do that, and it would have been better if I had. 2. If you need any tile-work done, anywhere, specifically request Dan. The work will turn out very well, indeed. It's his favorite part of the job, and you can tell. 3. For flooring work, again go old-school, with real hardwood and tile. The inexpensive bamboo I used didn't work well, while hardwood would have been, once again, easier for them.
