Recent Review: We would recommend McHugh Tile and Stone to anyone who needed professional, quality work done in a timely manner. We bought our old, but extensively remodeled, home two years ago. Yet after only two years of use the shower was showing numerous signs of failure, including floor tile cracks around the shower curb, cracks in the curb itself and in the shower floor and grout falling out. When Mr. McHugh came to evaluate the situation on-scene he described to us in clear, fully-understandable terms how and why the tile failures were happening. His explanation was articulate and clear and it was apparent to me that he understood how this kind of installation needed to be done and what had been done improperly to cause the failures we were experiencing. His employee, Steve, who did the bulk of the work, was equally experienced and, throughout the project, explained what he was doing and why. The original contractor had used wood in locations where moisture damage was almost certain to happen; non-galvanized screws, susceptible to oxidation had contributed to the problem; drywall had been used where waterproof materials were called for and the shower pan originally installed had not been properly waterproofed. At every point it was clear to us that we being told the truth by an expert. There was no attempt to increase the scope of work for financial reasons and the entire job was completed within the originally quoted price, including the cost of all tile and other materials. Steve was scrupulous about avoiding damage and protecting our house, carpets, and so on, from dirt. In the middle of the project we had to leave for 4 weeks, causing work to stop. Mr. McHugh made a point of adjusting his schedules so that work could resume only 2 days after our return. McHugh Tile is a high quality, expert contractor of integrity.
