Mannix Painting Inc
Business Description: Mannix Painting is your complete decorating contractor providing products and services to protect and enhance your home, office, or industrial site. Mannix Painting provides free estimates for work done on time an on budget. Michael McGowan's Statement of Qualifications: "I have been continuously involved in the Painting/Decorating trades since 1984 when I was accepted into the Philadelphia Painters Union Apprentice Program. It was a three-year/6000 hour program, which I completed in April 1987. My apprenticeship covered all aspects of the painting trade. I was trained and tested in the safe and proper usage of ladders, scaffolding, abrasive blasting (both sand and water), the proper application of paint coatings (epoxy, oil and latex), how to apply stains, lacquers and top coats. I was also trained how to tape and finish drywall as well as apply wallpaper and Faux Finishes. During the past 27 years, I have worked in every conceivable type of painting environment: from extremely high end homes to office space, retail stores, shopping malls, oil refineries and sewerage plants. I definitely have the training and the experience to successfully complete your project. My wife and I moved into the Roaring Fork Valley in 1998, so over 50 percent of my painting experience is here."

Recent Review: He did a wonderful job. He discussed things with me and he was an honest guy. The deck turned out great and he anchored it down well against the sunroom. I am very pleased and it was a pleasure working with him. I would highly recommend him.

Longview Construction
Recent Review: Epic. After getting a few bids we decided to go with Doug and long view to replace our rotted sagging deck and ledger board with a new deck. He went over a few options and explained the cost for each. Knocked it all out in 1 day. Great price and great work. When you look at the deck you know it was done right. No complaints about the process or results. Will be working with Longview again on some other projects after seeing how well the results were on the deck.

Oakleaf Construction Inc.
Recent Review: I originally hired Oakleaf and Ralph to re-skirt mobile home after removing old skirting. I appreciated that Ralph alerted me to, and showed me, problems with insulation missing or falling down and plumbing leaks under the home. Despite the added time this work would take, Oakleaf stayed with the job until it was complete. Oakleaf also replaced the front deck and mudroom, coated the metal roof with rubberized compound, and removed and hauled off all old material (and hauled off very old very large satellite dish). Expert workmanship! Quality materials were used. This is a vacation home. I cannot find any photos of the finished job.

DURANGO DECKS
Recent Review: Excellent service. So thankful to have found Carl and the guys at Durango Decks. They completed the job on time, on budget, professionally and excellent craftsmanship. Carl came up with a plan that works extremely well for our building, both structurally and aesthetically for a great price. I will work with them again and would highly recommend Durango Decks.

Recent Review: Paul came over and gave us an estimate.  We thought it was very fair, gave him a deposit for materials, which he immediately ordered and began work the following week.  He is a perfectionist and took 3 weeks to complete our project.  Every cut was done with precision and we couldn't be happier.  He is extremely polite, honest, and unassuming.  All he wants to do is complete a project that pleases not only him, but his customer.  Every evening he cleaned his work area and picked up debris and swept the walkways. We can't wait for him to have more free time in his schedule to do some other projects in our home.  He is a jack-of-all trades, master craftsman and can do a multitude of household projects, repairs and remodels.  We give Paul our highest A++++ rating!

I contacted the provider (Carl) on a Wednesday, had  a plan, two days later, on the next Friday, and a beautiful new deck completed by the following Tuesday. Time was an issue for me and their promptness was excellent. The crew was very professional and did a great job. There was a minor issue that had to be corrected and it was promptly taken care of the next day. I am very happy with the finished product and would be comfortable recommending Durango Deck to other people in need of a new, high quality, deck.

Eric started with the roof, so we gave him money for materials for the roof.  The day before he was supposed to start he fell off the scaffolding at his previous job and broke both wrists.  After 6 weeks he came in with a helper to do the roof.  He did a good job on the roof but it took him 3 weeks and the time between the old roof being off and the new roof being on, we had rain and water leaked into the cabin into one of the bedrooms.  We were in renovation there so there was not much damage but a timely completion would have prevented this from happening.  When the roof was finally complete it passed inspection and we have no problem with the construction, however, the timeliness of his work could have improved. The next project was the interior flooring and tiling.  Eric proclaimed to be an expert tile guy with high end jobs in Breckenridge and Vail.  We hired him to lay engineered hardwood in the kitchen and living area and tile in the bathroom and hall.  He was also hired to re-tile a shower.  We were clear that this work need to be complete in 6 weeks as we had family coming out from Kansas to visit.  Eric said that this was not a problem.  We had also hired him to paint the outside and put in a new deck with a later completion commitment.  He said that he was perfectly capable to do this and the timing was not a problem.  We gave him $7,000 for deck materials which we were under the impression were going to be delivered to the house right away.  At the six week point, Eric had moved all of his equipment into our cabin so the cabin was unusable and the inside work was at about 45% completion.   The old deck was removed and piers were poured for the new deck, however, no decking material was delivered to the house.   In mid-November Eric got in a fight with his wife and according to the police report on the Park County Sheriff Blog on their website for October/November 2012, he punched her in the face and was charged with domestic violence and was taken to jail.  Eric bailed out of jail and came down to our house in Denver to explain the incident.  Eric explained that this was just a misunderstanding and he would work it out, but instead violated the restraining order against him and ended up back in jail.  During this time, unbeknownst to us, Eric had one of his carpenter buddies come in to complete the tiling in the shower and some work in the kitchen.  When Eric got out of jail, he came down to our house to collect the money for the shower tiling and kitchen work.  We were under the impression that Eric had done the work but 2 days later, Eric's carpenter buddy called us and asked when he was going to get paid.  We told him that we paid Eric so he would have to get the money from Eric.  He said that if he didn't get the money he would place a lien on our cabin.  In the end, Eric never paid his carpenter buddy, but luckily never placed a lien on our cabin either.   During this time while Eric was in jail, his wife took the remaining $6,000 that we had paid Eric for deck materials and spent it all.  The way that Eric and his wife had their company set up was that the company was in Eric's wife's name even though Eric bid and carried out the jobs.  Since his wife was the "owner" of the company, we filed a case in small claims court against her to get a judgment for the stolen funds.  In January, Eric has reconciled with his wife and wanted us to drop the small claims action.  We told him that if built us a deck, we would drop the small claims action.  Eric agreed to build our deck in a time frame between March 1 and March 15, 2013.  We called Eric in mid-February to see if we were still on track for the deck - he never returned our calls and the deck never materialized.   Eric and his wife showed up in small claims court where she admitted to the judge that she spent all of the money and we were awarded a judgment.  She was required to file interrogatories detailing her financial state.  She said she had no money, was out of work and was on welfare.  We found from her bank statements that many liquor stores in Leadville benefited from our money.  She has since moved and her email address and phones are no longer functional.  She is nowhere to be found. When we opened up the cabin in the spring, we found that much of Eric's craftsmanship was spotty.  The tile that he laid in the hallway had grout that was coming loose and there were several areas that were left ungrouted.  The microwave that was installed above the stovetop was mounted WAY too high and you can barely see the inside of the microwave.  The cabin was filthy with dust left over from the woodwork that was done.  The shower pan that Eric put in our shower leaks and our yard was littered with cigarette butts and roofing nails.  There was a pile of trash and debris left of the side of the cabin.  The outside of the cabin was half painted and the paint job that was done was of poor quality and needed to be entirely re-done.  We repainted the outside of the cabin ourselves and it took all of two weekends to complete the job with just my husband and myself. In my opinion Eric has an incredibly poor work ethic.  Jobs that should take no more than a day or two were dragging on for weeks.  I believe Eric has moved from the area and is now advertising his work to the senior community in a different part of the state.  This troubles me because Eric talks a good story but rarely delivers.  We spoke to several other carpenters in the area and found that Eric owed them money as well.  In the end, our experience with Eric was an epic failure.
