Overall the job went very well and completed in one day according to schedule. Peter did estimate after I bought the $849 panel replacement deal on Angie's list. Included surge protectors, which was important given all my TVs and other electrical equipment plus frequency of lightning strikes in CO. Just one more safeguard. Peter, with FRE, was out within couple of days after contacting through Angie's list based upon my availability. He looked over the job thoroughly; noting electrical panel would have to be relocated to outside of house and cost would be an additional $450, which was a bit of a surprise, but seemed reasonable given other estimates I had received. The original panel was much smaller and located close to granite counter top, so no other option--plus went with upgraded 150 amps panel. I needed to replace the home's original panel (1976) Federal Pacific, since had load issues, especially in family room and garage which are on single circuit. Old panel was very much under-powered, no longer manufactured, plus I had heard horror stories from others about their panels shorting out. Online research further affirmed the risks of an outdated panel given today's electrical demands. the date for work to be completed was set, crew showed up early, they had coordinated all the work with Utilities, permits, inspector and got down to business, completing the job so power was back on by 4 pm that afternoon. They had to replace electrical pipe and reroute all wires from inside to outside (which in my eyes looked like having to re-braid the hair of Medusa). When power came on, everything worked perfectly. Lights were brighter, and came on quicker to full brightness (thank you US Government for banning incandescent bulbs.....NOT). Have had no outages or flipped breakers, even after putting a heavy load on family room circuits, including portable AC. Very satisfied with work and results. Even the inspector showed up a couple of days sooner than I had expected. I had wanted some additional electrical work estimate at time of panel quote, but interest of contractor in running additional circuits or rewiring, including wiring 4 bedroom ceiling fans/light seemed low. I will get smaller projects done with another Angie's list deal. That said, FRE did accomplish what I contracted for and on budget. No surprises!
