As a long-time and loyal customer of Sunshine Plumbing, Heating and Air, I felt it was important to share my personal experience yesterday during this most service call. I spoke with one of Sunshine’s employees on Thursday morning and set up an appointment for Friday between 1-3pm. I gave her my billing address as well as the service address and stressed the service address in Boulder. She said a technician would call me when he was leaving his last job to alert me of a more exact arrival time. I further described the job in great detail, saying we needed to install 2 new quarter shutoffs under the lower level bathroom vanity. Early Friday afternoon, I received a call from Garrett saying he was almost at the Huron Street address. I told him that was my billing address, not the service address. Once Garrett arrived, we went downstairs to look at the job. I asked him, “Just as it has always been, the clock starts when you begin the job and ends when the job is complete, right?” He gave me a puzzled look and said, “We only do jobs now by stated prices, not time involved. That is how we have always done it.” Much to my dismay, I explained how all of my business with Sunshine had been done by exact time involved. He told me that maybe William (Sunshine's owner) would do it that way, but he would not. On top of all of this, Garrett proceeded to inform me that he did not have the shutoff valves in his truck and he would have to go to a supply house to procure them, even though I had very clearly stated what we were going to be doing when I made the appointment the day before. More than 30 minutes passed before he returned. Because there were tenants waiting at the unit and the job had to be completed, I reluctantly decided to go ahead and proceed. What turned out to be less than 30 minutes of work billed out at $256! The fault on my part, I guess, was not asking more specifically when I initially set up the appointment. I had no idea you had changed your business model. One of the things that really attracted me to your company initially on Angie’s List was your fair and honest approach of only charging for the exact amount of time you were at the jobsite. I shared that appreciation with William in person and in a glowing Angie’s List review at the time. When it came time to check out, my email address was incorrect in the iPad, we had to manually enter the credit card information twice, and when the invoice finally came through, the invoice date was missing and the job address was incorrect. The only silver lining in all of this is that I had a $50 service coupon I was able to apply to my total invoice. Even given that, the price charged for the services rendered, I believe, was exorbitant. I felt I owed it to Sunshine and potential customers to express my disappointment with this most recent service call.
