My appointment was at 10 am, and Chuck showed up at 11:05 am. He went to the bathroom, working slowly but methodically. Since I have replaced faucets myself (don't do it anymore-- arthritis) I knew it would take an hour or less to replace. Also, I knew the going rate for local plumbers is about $100/hour. Chuck finished, and presented my bill: $217.50! What? Well, even though his "quoted rate" is $95 an hour, he added on a "service charge" of $75 and he also charged me for "1.25 hours" of labor, even though I timed him with my stopwatch, and thus, I was POSITIVE that he only spent an hour doing the job (59 minutes, to be exact). So, the job was done in a satisfactory manner... but for $217 an hour!!! And he charged me for 1.25 hours, for a job that usually takes between thirty and 45 minutes! Unfortunately, there aren't many other options in Susanville, since Reno plumbers refuse to drive the 88 miles that separates us from the big city. In summary, he did the job, BUT, he charged me for extra time not worked, had hidden charges, was slow, and he was late arriving for his appointment. Does anyone know a plumber that DOESN'T that does good work AND doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
