Recent Review: After the complete demolition of the existing space, the new space was rebuilt to provide the desired master bedroom suite.  Majestic designed and implemented several innovative storage spaces. In addition to the Master suite, a new laundry room was created.  The resulting remodel is so well done that it looks like it was part of the original design of the home.

Recent Review: There has never been a complaint with this contractor other than his dry sense of humor.  He has been on time with every project, provided the necessary subcontractors of his choice, which we've not had a problem with, and completed the work on time and within budget.  There has been a time or two that we've made changes to the plan midstream and Mike has accommodated these without problem.

Recent Review: Tom and Sandra are a husband and wife team that handle contracting/remodel work and decorating. They worked w/me diligently to arrive at a budget I could live with while providing high quality materials/work. Their subcontracting teams were very professional and did exceptional work---and all were fantastic and fun to work with! Tom outlined everything, including the cost up front, and explained things as they went along whenever i had questions; if something was too costly for me, he would provide viable options or actually work w/his distributor or contact to lower the cost, project took about 2 months. Sandra worked w/me on coordinating colors/materials for flooring, paint, tile, and window treatments. Her suggestions for furniture and other decor was great, never felt pressured, but they did offer their services for purchasing items, which I did on some of the furniture. As described above it was an update/remodel of master bedroom and bath. Installed pocket door between bedroom/bath, replaced 2 windows (enlarged 1), installed new wood flooring, partially removed old "plant ledge", added closet organizers, painted bedroom/bath/closetrooms, added canned lighting in bedroom, bath, and closet, removed old shower and installed new tiled floor to ceiling shower w/new fixtures and shower doors, new tiled bathroom floor, custom vanity w/new sink and granite counter top and new front/doors for linen closet, and installed new doors in remodel area. New furniture, rug, and window treatments were at additional cost. I felt extremely comfortable w/both Tom and Sandra and would definitely recommend their business to others.

Bill Hickman
Recent Review: Bill is a self-proclaimed part-time handy man.  His hourly rate was very inexpensive.   I had just bought a house that is nearly new, and had a few small jobs that I needed done.   I figured I could use Bill for the simple jobs, and a licensed/bonded professional for anything more complicated.  Since Bill did this work part-time, I asked him in advance which jobs he was qualified to do and had the equipment to do.  He said that he could install my garage door opener, install two sets of wood blinds, install two toilet kits (the guts in the tanks), stain the fence, and install a few batteries into smoke detectors. The first day he was going to work for about a few hours.   I left him at the house as I ran errands.  (I had not moved into the house yet.)  I told him to call me if he needed anything.  In all the time he was at the house, he only changed a few batteries in the smoke detectors, and installed one toilet kit.  He said the toilet gave him trouble and had used up a roll of paper towels due to an apparent leak.  He said the tank was not very stable on the toilet.  I asked him if it would leak if someone bumped it.  His response was ?maybe?.  When I just looked at him with raised brows, he said ?I could seal it with silicone?.  (Not a very satisfying answer, but I let it go.) He came back two days later to finish the other toilet, the garage door opener and the two blinds. He said he had installed garage door openers before and in fact had installed the very same one that I purchased and was very familiar with it.  He said it would take him about two hours, and the other tasks would be very quick.  Again, I left to do other things.  I stopped back at the house about 6 hours later to learn he had spent the entire 6 hours on the garage door opener and still wasn?t done with it.  I left again, and after a total of about 8 hours, he was done?.. or I should say, his version of ?done?.  He had not taken off all of the additional slats that come on the blinds, so at each window there was a huge stack of slats at the bottom, resting on the window sill.  His excuse was ?I didn?t know how much you wanted me to take off.?  I was thinking, ?Isn?t it obvious??  I thought that was such a lame excuse.  If he honestly didn?t know, he could have called me. Then he showed me the garage door opener, but referred to a panel that is supposed to be installed outside of the garage, and said, ?I didn?t know if you wanted this installed, so I didn?t install it.?  Again, he could have simply called and asked, but instead chose not to complete the job. Bill was planning to leave on vacation the next day for a week, and we planned that he would soon return to stain the fence. Two days later I returned to the house to find the master bathroom and four feet into the master bedroom completely flooded with water!  I threw down a roll of paper towels which was all I could find to use, and had to go back to my other residence to get all the towels I could find and a fan.  Bill had sent a text earlier that day with a picture of his son while on vacation.  I now responded to that text, and informed him of his botched work and the flood, and possible damage.   Then I called a plumber who was able to come out the next day.  He found that Bill had not tightened the bolts that hold the tank onto the toilet.  He said that they were so loose he could turn them by hand.  That cost me $76.50, plus damage to the baseboards, my time and aggravation, and who knows if there is now also mold under my carpet.   Bill never responded to my text.    After that, I installed the rest of the blinds myself and noticed that there was hardware that Bill did not install when he did my blinds.  He neglected to install the support brackets which are needed for these blinds due to their weight.  So in addition to removing all of the slats that he didn?t, I had to install them these support brackets.  When I took down the blinds, I noticed that not only did he install the brackets upside down, but he installed them with only 1 screw each!  (Will the incompetency ever end?)  I ended up having to completely re-install both of the sets of blinds that he did.  It has now been almost 4 weeks since I notified him of the flood.  He has never responded. As a summary, he: -  gave grossly inaccurate estimates , and took 3 times longer than estimated -  did poor work -  did incomplete work -  did damage to my home -  has not contacted me to pay for my plumbing bill or damage that he caused, or return what I paid him.   The least he could do is take responsibility for his mistakes and apologize, but he doesn?t even have the decency to do that. ** I did not enter his phone number.  Since he does this work part-time, I didn't feel right about listing it.

CMAINTENANCE CONNECTION
I found maintance connection on angies list and when i called the first time regarding home remodeling the recorded message reffed me to ernest ivy for any a/c problems. i needed a/c serviced and ernest ,the a/c technician for maintance connection , and he can out to selma that dayhe. he charged me more for driving to selma but it was reasonable and i appriciated same day service. he also did the lighting iand toilet installation and electrical work prices were competitive and work was good. ernest and his helper also put in the baseboard and there were problems. some boards were not straight, corners not flush, boards cut and pieced in middle of wall. i had plenty of baseboards so this was unnessary and boards were removed and replaced. the chalking was  substandard and he rechalked some areas but it till looks terrible so a friend of mine did some touchups. ernest told me his  expertise is a/c plumbing and electrical so  i dont know why he was sent to do the baseboards. george the owner was very nice and picked up toilets and baseboards which i appreciated.george sent out his carpet guy dan chavez and i'm not sure of last name as he had me write all check  payments in his girlfriends nameI he did ok job on tile entry and kitchen floor but rip a hole in vinyl when moving refridgerator back.,the good news is hole is under fridg. dan quoated  $500 to install carpet. i moved all furniture, removed old carpet and padding and cleaned floors so he just had to lay carpet. the day he finished he said there was not enough carpet for the master bedroom closet and i needed to order a 12' x 6' piece i called big bobs to order and he wanted me to go to fresno to put deposit  before he could order and i had just paid them $5000 case. so that upset me and i will do do further business with them.I noticed 5 carpet pieces  that were left over and I called dan to see why he did not put them in the closet and he never returned my calls. I ask for recipts for alll tthe work paid for on the 5 times he was here and he said he would email them to me and to this day i have not received a receipt and my attemps to call again ignored. I ended up calling a carpet guy in Parlier and he came same day took carpet to piece together and installed next day. charge was an amasing $65.

This was the second project Chapman Construction did on our house. (The first was a bathroom remodel in 2015.) Vern Chapman is knowledgeable and professional. He was on site almost everyday to touch base and to do quality control. All the sub-contractors were proficient and courteous, and cleaned up after every work day. The Chapman team of Ryan and Johnny was particularly meticulous, thorough, and accommodating. It did take a while for Vern to prepare the proposal and estimate, but that was because they were busy, which in turn was a reflection of the fine quality of their work. (Personally, I would be wary of hiring a general contractor who has plentiful time on his hands!) And then once work commenced, there was someone working in our house every day, and things progressed quite swiftly. The project did take longer than planned, largely because of a couple of change orders that we had initiated. In all fairness, I should not give a grade on "Price" above, as we did not get a second bid and therefore do not have any other price to compare to. However, I had done research on my own ahead of time, and Vern's price for this project, albeit higher than the "ballpark price" in my mind, was not way out- of-line. Of the three basic elements of a house remodel - price, process, and end-product; the last is the one that is most important to us, ( as that is what we have to live with for years to come.) And in this case, the end-product is superb, and we are quite happy!

It was a terrible experience. As a professional you should check your book to see if you're availble for the estimate. As a professional you don't show up unannounced. As a professional you don't give excuses why you can't do something. Give a decent estimate for the job.
