It went very will. Jerry showed up the day after my original call and we assesed what needed to be done in this small rental cottage. The bedroom floor was very uneven and, after crawling about under the house Jerry deternined the problem was that a central joist was too high and the floor joists were not properly connected along the south edge of the structure. These problems were corrected and the improvement in the floor was marked. It is still not perfectly level but that would take some major reconstruction and it was agreed that this was more than needed. The remainder of the levelling can be taken care of by some underlayment when next the room is carpeted. The closet was originally a do-it-yourself job and a major eyesore. It appeared a former owner had simply constructed a box of plywood, cut a hole in the bedroom wall and installed the box, covering the exterior with siding and installing a shelf and hanging bar inside. There was no insulation, no interior sheetrock and the size of the closet box and the room opening was not anything near a standard size. There were no closet doors. I had no idea how make this closet look better, accommodate a decent-looking door, and insulate what was essentially a big source of heat loss for the room. Jerry solved the problem and he and his assistant set to work. First they stripped out the old shelf and bar and lifted the carpet. They insulated the walls with foam sheet insulation, covered the walls with sheetrock, taped and mudded them and essentially made the "box" look finished, new and clean. Not only did this look good but there was an immediate improvement in the temperature of the room. It was much warmer! Then they proceeded to build a shallow frame around the closet opening that would accommodate a double set of standard folding doors. This frame extended to the ceiling and created a two foot wide enclosed area at one end of the closet which nicely accomodated some shelves. This frame was faced with additional sheetrock and when completed looked like a narrow bump out in the wall. The frame and wall were then painted to match the rest of the room, a closet shelving and rod system was installed inside the closet and the carpeting relaid to extend inside. The finished project looks fantastic and vastly improved the appearance of the bedroom! Most of the work was done by Chris, Jerry's assistant, but Jerry kept track of what was going on and popped in often to see how things were progressing and make sure what I wanted was being done. Both were very professional. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves, All debris was removed. After they finished there was almost nothing left for me to do except for a quick vacuuming of the room and even that was not absolutely necessary!
