Palmdale Glass and Mirror Co.
Recent Review: We contacted several different companies and contractors while looking for somebody to replace our old, barely working sliding glass door with a set of nice French doors. Out of all the places we contacted either by phone or by going to their shop if they had one, Palmdale Glass ended up being the one for us. They don't have a huge showroom, but it is laid out nicely and has a good selection of doors and windows. Mark was very helpful and really took time to talk with me about the different types of doors available (sliding, French, vinyl, fiberglass, wood, etc..), he also took time to talk to me about windows even though I wasn't shopping for them at that time, I just made a remark that at some point in the future we would probably be looking to replace our old windows. When we decided which door we wanted and ordered it, everything happened on time and without any problems. It took about 4 weeks for the doors to arrive from the factory, which was actually less time than the 5-6 weeks that we were quoted when we ordered them, so that was a bonus! We scheduled the install for the day after the door was due to arrive in their shop. The contractors that work with the store arrived on the morning that we had scheduled and installed the door in about 6 hours. They did a great job and cleaned up after themselves before they left, and the stucco guy came a few days later to finish up the job. Having said all that, I do have a few minor complaints. They are not so great at calling to follow up on things. This isn't a huge issue, because we could always call them and get an answer, but if you expect constant phone calls with updates and scheduling, you may be a bit disappointed. Also, and I realize that this is more of a personal thing really, I don't like their hours of operation. In order to get the ball rolling I had to take a day off work to visit the showroom. I realize that their primary customers are probably contractors rather than homeowners, and they are not the only business to have these types of hours, but it is a bit of an inconvenience for a regular person looking for doors or windows, even a half day on Saturday would have been nice, but it all worked out so all in all it wasn't a deal breaker. Everything is finished, we are very happy with the end result, and we will definitely go back when it is time to start replacing our old windows without question.

SCREEN SHOP
Recent Review: John is meticulous about his screens! Before ordering, he personally comes to your home and measures and plans his installation strategy, plus he has an excellent eye for which screen design will match your home. During installation, John built a special frame to hold the doors. They look fantastic and work perfectly. As he was leaving, we handed him a sun-damaged screen and he'll be making us a new one overnight.

TWO GUYS PAINTING
Recent Review: He took two months to install french door where a normal/traditional window would have been, The main issue is that we can now not get in contact with with the company to come back a resolve the issues. The french doors are now leaking and and flooded three times since the installation, Mike Shaughnessy knows of the issues and is not returning any of our calls or communication to help repair the damage. During the installation every step of the process seemed to be delayed either 1 day, 2days even 3 days late. Not the most reliable contractor.

Window Works
Recent Review: I was interested in replacing an 8' slider that probably came with the house built in 1959. I contacted Alex, owner of Window Works, to see what he had to offer. I used Window Works once before about a year ago for a few replacement windows and a slider. Alex came in, took measurements and listened to what I was after. He called back a few days later and shared that he had a floor model French door that was new, but had been around for a year or two but was spectacular. If I was interested he could offer it to me for about the same price as a new slider. I told him I was so he stopped by with a picture which sold me. We scheduled installation and Alex, once again, arrived on schedule and did an outstanding job. I am very satisfied with Alex, his offerings, services and suggestions and will definitely call Window Works the next time I need replacement windows or doors.

Wood Flight
Recent Review: My husband is a perfectionist. In 25 years of multiple home ownership, Ted is the first carpenter/ re-modeler whom has met his high standards. Ted is also a perfectionist, as well as an old school artisian. He is prompt, reliable, friendly, courteous and educated. For his initial assignment, he made sure the design and stain matched exactly existing custom cabinetry. He hewed the butcher block from our raw slab of black oak and made it fit perfectly. He offered ideas to incorporate into the design a tiny strip of granite left over from initial counter installation, a difficult job to do. Previously, another company had done a botched job refinishing our wood floors. When they returned to redo the job correctly, we felt comfortable leaving for a week with Ted to oversee them. This time it was done perfectly. Ted works wonders with tile as well. He cut and installed a tile floor cut in a perfect diagonal in a tight bathroom configuration. Ted has been sought out by celebrities but does not charge celebrity prices. We are blessed that he has relocated to the San Luis Obispo area.

Simons Construction Inc
Recent Review: I called Simons to have a contractor come out and take a look at a house we were in escrow on. Ed came out promptly the next day to give us a free estimate on adding a bathroom to the house. We talked about the bathroom addition and a few other remodeling items. The estimates he gave us were very fair and competitively priced. He also pointed out what he thought was a major structural issue with the roof, which was sagging. We followed his recommendation to have a structural engineer check the place out. The repairs needed ended up being too extensive for us and we let the place go. If we need a contractor in the future, we would definitely call Simons for their responsiveness, fair pricing and honesty.

ASCREEN SHOP
It went exceptionally well. I was moving from Los Angeles to Arroyo Grande and doing this long distance. The screen people worked with my realtor to accommodate her schedule. They had a good selection of colors and discussed options with me. They came on time and completed the work on the day I moved in. They did an excellent job. I would definitely hire them again.

Didn't go through with job.  Too expensive.  I rated him a "C" because there was not work preformed.  The cost of the doors were just too high.  I didn't get the chance to see any of his work finished.
