Recent Review: Communications with him was a bit uncertain from time to time, and I never *did* get a written quote, but he showed up to do the work exactly when he said he would. The structure that he built around the water heater was *far* more professionally designed and constructed than I was actually envisioning - which is superb, because the design that I envisioned might well not have been that robust; what *he* built will probably outlast the house!! I am very pleased with that effort, and with his skill. I look forward to using him again in the future, for other work.

Recent Review: Carl loves working with wood and it shows.  He is professional, courteous and provided excellent workmanship.  I would definitely hire Carl again in the future.  My only non"A" grade is simply due to the fact that Carl is a very busy person and my job was relatively small, so finding a time to work in our little job was challenging.  But I felt he was worth it and his passion and love of working with wood meant no job was too small to him.   I would hire him again and hopefully for a much larger job!

Recent Review: They were very practical and great to work with. My home is nearly 100 years old and I was not interested in tearing it down. They told me what they could and could not do, and they made a big difference. My home has settled over the last century, so they sealed up the necessary places. They found a problem with how my heater was installed and they were able to fix that. There were some windows that needed to have a great deal of sealing on them, which makes them difficult to open and close, but I was happy with their solutions overall. They were here and did a lot of work, so I did not feel that I was overcharged in any way. One of my neighbors just told me that they spent a fortune on double-paned windows, but Advanced Home Energy was very honest with me about what I would be spending and what I would have gotten out of it. I appreciated their good advice. They were very congenial, and I was very impressed with them.

Recent Review: The work ended up being a bit more complicated than originally anticipated due to a pre-existing uneven door frame. Troy worked very hard to get the door to fit right in the frame, and he completed the work to my satisfaction.

Recent Review: Eric and Matt are craftsman. The work they did with the crown molding was beautiful. The sheetrock repair on the ceiling and in a very difficult spot was flawless. They checked for any other damage which  fortunately there was none. Eric was congenial and answered all my questions. His reputation is based on his skills and honesty. I would recommend Eric to anyone that would need any type of home repair.

Recent Review: Estimate and quotation. Barry came the day after I telephoned to calculate a free estimate which was emailed to me that evening. He was punctual (even a few minutes early) and called ahead of the visit to confirm. More importantly, we had a newborn at home as well as other scheduling constraints and Barry, despite having tons of work backlogged, was extremely flexible in meeting our time availability. Simply scheduling the quote was representative of all of our subsequent experiences. He was punctual, always called ahead to confirm his arrival, and _always_ adjusted to fit our unique scheduling requirements. We did collect three different quotes. Barry offered the most competitive pricing, was personally present on the job site for the work, and was the most flexible with regards to scheduling (see below). Scheduling the actual work. We had a number of small jobs, none of which required a full-days labor and many of which required one or more intervening days to cure. Barry was extremely responsive to our desire to get the work done quickly and extremely sensitive to our newborn in the house. He creatively scheduled our jobs - coming by in the morning on his way to another job-site to get something started for us or stopping by in the afternoon when traveling between other larger jobs. Amidst an unseasonably rainy summer, he also took maximum advantage of the weather - doing our indoor work when rain showers delayed some of his other jobs. The work product itself. Barry was fast, efficient, ahead of schedule and under budget. He finished the work nearly a week ahead of schedule and was under his initial quote (less material). He was also extremely thoughtful, thorough, and creative in the work. On the plaster repair, he talked through several alternatives with us explaining the pros and cons of each approach and gave his opinion on what the best option was and why. In this instance, the physical dimensions of the closet where the plaster was crumbling made one approach more obvious than the others. On the weather-stripping, he not only thought of a novel approach to sealing the gaps in our circa 1840's doorway, but did so in a way that circumvented the expanding and contracting wood that rendered our own sad attempts ineffective. In sealing parts of the basement wall, he scraped and sealed far beyond the basement section that we had identified. There was really only a basement bathroom that we had explicitly discussed. Because he was scraping the wall anyway, in the interest of completeness, he actually cleaned and resealed the basement wall as far as he could go until the random assorted junk in our basement blocked his way. If we had not had boxes lining the walls, I suspect that he might have worked his way around the entire basement. Clean-up. Barry brought a portable shop vac and/or drop cloths (as appropriate for the particular tasks). He cleaned up after every visit (remember, he was coming into our home once or twice a day over several days) and only once left materials in preparation for the next visit - taking care to ask permission first. We could not have imagined a better experience and we would not hesitate to use Barry again or recommend him to anyone else.

Recent Review: Met with ABC to go over estimates.  Goal was to replace distintegrating heating ducts, but was prepared to replace furnace. Separate company and expense to remove duct boots due to asbestos. ABC listed as one of the companies to perform energy audits and file for state energy rebate ($500 per 5% improvement). Energy audit was $175, and interesting in itself.  I think you can get a very basic energy audit for free, but this one involved pumping air through the heating ducts. Uneventful replacement of furnace and ducts.  Workers were courteous and on-time. City inspector said he has inspected many homes, and ABC does consistently good work.  Mine was in-line with his experience. Minor nit... permit paperwork did not list replacement of duct work.  Had to be re-filed, and re-inspected. ABC threw in some addition work: replace gas line to water tank, cap gas outlet, install weather stripping.  Much appreciated. Rebate arrived according to estimates.

AODDJOB ROB
Robert Kanter, AKA OddjobRob, responded to a call for help over the holidays. The homeowner needed a new back door replaced along with a utility door that suffered dry rot. Rob responded to the call within 48 hours (despite my expected holiday backup delays.) Because of a rainy forecast, Rob agreed to do the work in a week, with the offer that if there was a break in the rain he would arrive sooner. True to his word, he called on an afternoon there was a break in the rain, and that's when the fun began. Rob evaluated both projects and in both cases determined new doors were not needed. Instead he installed weather stripping on a rear door and replaced and moved the damaged hinges to save the exterior utility door. In addition, I asked if he could look at a few interior doors that were no longer staying closed. With a carpenter's eye he corrected each problem we showed him. Rob is the kind of repairman we wish we could all have: prompt, efficient, caring and cost conscious. On top of that, he's genuine. A good neighbor. Thank you Rob for your service. See you next time!
