Mega Group Builders
Recent Review: Overall, I’m happy with my experience with Mega Group Builders. It took couple of iterations to get rolling, but once they hit their stride I kept expanding scope and adding work having them paint the entire building. Originally, I hired them via an Angie’s List deal (2 painters for 8hrs) with the objective of getting apartment internal prior to renting it. I called to coordinate crew availably, confirm the job scope, and was assured that a spray crew could achieve it in 8hrs. Due to a miscommunication, I got a crew with rollers which only got a fraction of the apartment painted. It appears for the deals providing a fixed number of labor hours that the nature of the job isn’t noted by crew the schedules. I called Mega Group Builders, explained the situation, and a project manager came out to assess the job. It was resolved by them sending a different crew the task. I was very happy with this, and we expanded scope to have the building exterior painted. This was something I’d been considering but dragging my feet on getting started. With the scope well defined with the project manager and the prospect of keeping this crew, I finally pulled the trigger on this project. I expanded scope once more and got another apartment interior painted. I’ll likely use them again the future. I’d call for a quote and have project manager come out to detail the plan. Deals on Angie’s List seem to be a new business model for them and all the kinks haven’t been ironed out. Once a project manager got involved and manned crew with a foreman was provided things went very well.

Recent Review: The owner’s name is Hector Andrade. When he came to give me the estimate, he came with all his credentials, his workers’ comp insurance and a little portfolio of recommendations from other people that he had done work with. His first question was if I was looking for a commercial paint job or a custom paint job and he told me that he doesn’t do commercial paint jobs because he takes pride in his work and because he does good paint work. We went over the building and he told me exactly what the procedure was, which included pressure wash to clean everything. He asked me to take the plants away from the building and advised what I needed to tell my tenants. Before they started, they gave me a work schedule of approximately how long it would take and a payment schedule. He gave me a contract and he did my building in 5-6 weeks. Hector was responsive, and if I were to leave a message on the phone or email him, he would get back right away. I gave him one-third upfront and then paid $1000 at the end of each week. His crew was extremely polite and they cleaned up afterwards. Howard told me that if I asked someone in the crew to do a job, he would do it, even if it was not his job. He introduced me to the foreman of the job as well. They spoke perfect English and they didn’t have blaring radios. They showed up on time everyday and they put all their equipment away so that nobody would trip or fall over it. I got the initial quote 3 months prior to the paint job, but he still kept to the same quote. I had to schedule the work a month ahead of time because he was booked up. Everything was down in writing with respect to payments. I didn’t have to go and supervise anything or check up on anybody because they knew what they were doing. Everything went perfectly well and it was well worth the couple of hundreds extra that it cost to have it done because it was done properly. It’s the best paint job that I’ve ever had.

Belman's Painting
Recent Review: I was very happy with Rick Belman and his team. I've gone through many painters over the years and have not been completely happy with any of them, either because of attitude or lack of skill. I'm 100% happy with Belman's Painting. Rick is an excellent communicator and all around great guy. He's very much a people-person. He'll go the extra mile for you, and with an optimistic attitude. He even went to the paint store with me and spent a lot of time there helping me. He has years of experience, both in residential and commercial painting, so his opinions carry weight. I'd advise you to hire him not just for his skilled painters, but for his judgement. And he does not talk down to you in a condescending way like a lot of contractors and tradesmen do. He's happy to explain things at length and talk over options. You can tell he's passionate about his profession. His team are experienced painters. All the painting was done perfectly. No sloppy lines or uneven texture. The team were courteous and careful with my home. I highly recommend Belman's Painting and just wish I'd found them years ago.

Recent Review: This was the best experience I've had with a contractor/handyman. The owners of the company were very attentive and responsive throughout the process, from request for quote to the completion of the work. The workers on the job were considerate and VERY clean. Before doing any work, paper was taped down to the floors where they would be walking and plastic taped up to walls/ceilings to keep down the dust. I had to do relatively little cleaning after wall/ceiling sanding and the paint jobs. The workmanship was excellent and the advice I received on various aspects of the work was very good. I will definitely use them again.

GoodFellas Construction
Recent Review: Remodeling my home took 3 main things:  First, a vision.  And I mean, the idea, the design, the colors, the space and look and feel-- all thought out.  Then it took saving money and finding THE RIGHT contractor.  Now normally, in the past, I have used individual repair men, or companies, to do odd and end jobs?guys I found by word of mouth etc.  But for remodeling 3 bathrooms in my home, (and eventually my entire downstairs!)  I needed a good contractor. I used Danny with Goodfellas Construction.  In the fall of 2011, we decided to do all three bathrooms in my home at the same time. Kind of crazy, but we did keep one working toilet in the house so we weren?t completely without for the duration. The thing I really liked about Danny?s company was his GoodFella crews.  He has terrific teams of guys who work quickly, show up on time, don?t disappear for weeks at a time, that all do detailed, quality work.  I really liked the tile guys, and the hotmop guys and the glass guys and the electrical guys and well, the plumber and the foreman, it was truly great to have a team of people in my home that I could trust daily, feel comfortable around, and most importantly who did quality work.  They took pride in showing me what was accomplished at the end of each day.  And that is exciting as a homeowner!  When I wanted more shelves in my shower for example, they cut out 4 nice built-in shelves to hold all my shampoo bottles.  They customized to my wishes!  (see photo)  The bathrooms turned out great.  I purchased my own tiles, and my own fixtures for the plumbing etc, so that added to my cost and the time spent shopping around, but I liked having them install EXACTLY what I wanted so I was willing to do this extra running around and expense.  And yes, it did get expensive, but I was happy with the outcome.   Also Danny is great at handling permits and dealing with city inspectors etc... Kudos to Danny and Goodfellas for his range of abilities dealing with people! The following spring, March 2012, I called Danny and his guys out again to give me an estimate on remodeling my entire downstairs (including drywall, and painting), building a deck in the backyard, redoing my garage interior, upgrading electrical in several spaces, installing new vinyl windows and doors, fixing 2 chimney fireplaces, painting the entire outside of the house, and doing travertine flooring.  It was a big job, but we had our vision in place, and the timing was right.  Danny came through with, again, great teams.  I was here myself for the job, and we all worked together, making the details happen to my satisfaction and within a reasonable time-frame.  I ran around getting materials like windows and doors, and fixtures and the paint I like best, but that was our arrangement, and I like having control over the exact items to be used.  Again, the cost went a bit over budget, but with the scope of work, we had to leave room for extra expenses.  And the outcome was worth it!  I absolutely love it all!! The guys did great work.  I was extremely happy with the travertine stone flooring, and the way the fireplace turned out downstairs (they used my travertine to make the fireplace look great!).  Also, the back patio?just lovely.  I was so happy we could figure out a way to do my vision. I also was happy that the guys worked the entire time, prioritizing my project, I never felt abandoned like if they got pulled off my job to do other jobs. That didn?t happen.   I liked feeling like the teams were in place until the job was done.  Thank you!  Overall, it was a great experience and I am extremely happy with the quality of the work! Danny is friendly but professional.  He handles his crew and subs well, and they respect him.  His delightful, friendly and out-going personality makes for a very good experience.  You definitely feel "taken care of." My final point is this:  Is there room for improvement?  Sure.  As with any home remodeling job experience, there are things that can be fine-tuned.   Communicating your expectations is very important.  Be specific about your expectations up front. Be specific about the costs.  If you don?t like communicating by text message, then tell him you prefer phone calls.  Everyone is different, and it is a stressful thing spending a lot of money on your home improvement project.  So be specific.  And be up-front about your expectations.  Danny?s guys are great, and the work is excellent.  I highly recommend this company, just be involved and communicate clearly!  Final word about price: There are cheaper companies out there. There are ways to cut corners. But when it comes to your home, and your peace of mind with trusting people IN your home, I think it?s worth it to use Goodfellas Construction.  Do it right the first time.  Penny wise can be dollar foolish.  My 2 cents. :)

FSignature Painting
Working with Signature Painting is exactly what I didn't want to encounter during my home renovation, and why I signed up with Angie's List in the first place. I wish I'd pick any other painter on Angie's List! After purchasing 2 of the $399 for 2 painters for a day (a $798 total), I waited and waited to hear back about scheduling. When I finally contacted Signature Painting, the project manager suggested coming out the following day at 2pm to view the job. He never showed. When I called him at 2:30 to see if he was still coming, he acted like we hadn't spoken the day prior and confirmed a time. He then said he would try to get to me within 20 minutes. He arrived 45 minutes later, looked around for 5 minutes, said someone would be out on Sunday and Monday to do the work and left. I then immediately received an email from the company telling me that I couldn't purchase two deals from Angie's List and I would need to pay them an additional $400 to do the job if I wanted any work done. This harassment continued nonstop until I handed over a check for additional funds to this joke of a company Thursday as the painters finally left. Painters came and did not finish a full day's worth of painting Sunday. Painters requested more paint (they burned through 5 gallons painting nothing) and then no-showed Monday morning on me. When I tried to find someone at the Signature Painting office to figure out if they were coming out and when, I was again told no one would be out until I paid them more money to finish the already paid for work. To get the first 3 rooms finished from Sunday's sloppy job, I paid additional money and painters finally arrived the following Thursday. When all was said and done, of the 6 rooms I paid for and wanted painted, only 4 were completed. Plus, I am out additional money while waiting on refunds. And I now have to pay for someone to remove all of the paint stains and spills off of my tile, carpet, cabinets and counters. Don't hire this company! They are truly terrible.
