The original contract was opened on 12/29/13 for garage insulation, re-drywall, installation of electrical outlets and 3 security lights around the exterior of the house, and re-texture and paint the interior of the garage for $1300. On 1/5/14, prior to the completion of the first job (a horrible mistake on my part), a second contract was opened to install drywall, insulation, and patch and paint the ceiling of the garage for an additional $600. A $650 deposit was given on 12/29/13, followed by a check on 1/4/14 for $250, two checks on 1/5/14 for a total of $600, a check for $150 on 1/11/14, and another check for $100 on 1/15/14. That's the last day Joseph (Joe) Hymes actually did any meaningful work. So almost two months since the original contract was signed and two deadline extensions given by myself as a courtesy, the job is only half complete. Joseph (Joe) Hymes has been paid $1750 of the original $1900 estimate PLUS an additional $100 on 1/14/14 to repair the garage door in which he broke forcing me to park outdoors for two days. With the exception of a bout with the flu which supposedly lasted roughly 2 weeks, this man has continuously lied about when he would show up, followed by excuses as to why he didn't show up. The excuses range from his worker being sick, his truck breaking down, a relapse in sickness, being behind in other jobs, etc. I have lost count of how many security risks this contractor has caused me because I have either left my garage opened or left my remote under the doormat (at his request) in hopes that when I return home from work the job would be complete. I never hesitated to issue payment to Joseph (Joe) Hymes because he is my neighbor and came highly recommended by another neighbor. I trusted that he was a man of his word and that he would do as he said he would considering that his license (which now appears to be nonexistent) and reputation were at stake. I found out the hard way that this was not the case. This man is a fast talking liar who sees nothing wrong with holding a yard sale in plain view while he is supposed to be performing contracted duties. I can't make this stuff up. It really happened and he used a light pole in my yard to post the sign. Unbelievable. Hindsight is indeed 20/20. I wish I had checked these reviews prior to hiring Joseph (Joe) Hymes. Until now, I had no clue how someone sues for pain and suffering. I now understand the emotional turmoil one can actually suffer as a result of lies, excuses, and feeling cheated. I have owned my home for 4 years. I could have very well done much more with my hard-earned money and left the garage as it has always been. My poor lawn looks horrible now as my sprinkler system has been disconnected since the beginning of the year. I honestly regret the day I agreed to do business with this man. And if you readers don't take heed, then you will too. Guaranteed. I have since filed complaints against Joseph (Joe) Hymes with the BBB and Consumer Affairs/Contractors State License Board. Although I may never get my money back, I will most certainly try. In the meantime I will use my bought lesson to do whatever is in my power to make certain that Joseph (Joe) Hymes doesn't earn another penny and/or have a chance to scam another human being out of their money.
