Recent Review: My experience with Good Fellas and Danny was amazing. The first time I met Danny, I walked him around my house for an hour, unloading 10 years worth of ideas. He listened and talked with me about options as we went. When I finished describing my vision, he sat at my kitchen table and wrote down from memory everything I had said, room by room. This is one of the reasons why I love working with Danny...he remembers all the little details. Every small custom request that I had from a pot filler on my stove to non-VOC paint, he remembered and delivered. The permitting with our project was complicated because of the existing illegal addition. We were able to get permits from the city passed within 2 1/2 weeks for everything because of Danny and his engineer sitting for hours in the city permitting office. They just stayed there and kept resubmitting revised requests every time the city asked for a change, or another report, or another calculation. I have since learned that it normally takes about 8 weeks to get this kind of permit finished with the city. I wlll also note, with regards to the city, our inspector really liked Danny and his team. After the first week on the job, the city inspector started planning out his next two weeks of inspections with them because he saw how fast they were working and he commented that he didn't want to slow them down. We passed every inspection without a note. At the end of the project, the inspector walked the house with me alone and told me how much he liked working with my contractor because they did EVERYTHING to code. We never waited even a day or two on inspections, because the inspector liked them. I just haven't heard stories like that from any of my friends who remodel. I have also had friends who are also contractors walk through the house and comment on how well it was done. Danny writes very detailed contracts. I have probably 30 pages of contracts from Danny. And I have learned that he delivers what he puts in the contract. Every contract we have with them has been completed ON TIME and ON BUDGET. He has never asked me for more $ for something in the contract. The only time we negotiated budget changes were when we changed the scope of the project. That is only fair. I observed more than once in the course of the work where something was costing Danny and Good Fellas more than they anticipated (like the removal of the foundation under the illegal addition, which ended up being two foundations, one poured on top of another). In those cases, Danny absorbed the cost and did not ask for any extra reimbursement. We also had an old pool shed out back that the inspector found and demanded that we demolish and remove. Danny offered to do that free of charge. Danny is an incredible project manager and the Good Fellas crew that we had worked hard. They were fast. And they did everything on schedule. If Danny told me that I had to have all the lighting chosen and at the house by Monday to be installed, it had to be there by Monday. The electriction was their on Monday...not Tuesday, or Wednesday or Thursday or next week. If the appliances needed to be available by a certain date, he wasn't kidding. I had to work h****** my end with the design choices (tile, paint, doors, kitchen, etc.) so that I could keep them supplied with the materials. Danny handled getting all the materials to the site, but I had to have everything chosen and ordered on his schedule, because he was NEVER late. The only delay in our project was because of a special order tile that I chose that didn't come in on time. We did not have down time on our job. The workers were there every day. I grew to really enjoy Danny and the crew. I had a 2 year old and the time and a puppy. We were living in an RV and I visited the job site daily. I often had to bring my toddler and sometimes the puppy with with me. I can't remember how many times that Danny or one of the guys carried my puppy around while I carried the toddler and we walked from room to room discussing the decisions of the day. I also noticed early on that whenever I arrived with my little girl, the guys would immediately go unplug all their power tools. No one asked them to. They were just that safety conscious around her. One of the guys even chased that puppy down the street and brought him back. They really started to feel like a family to me during the construction process. As with any construction process of this magnitude, we came across our issues from time to time. After we had completed our kitchen design and the cabinets were already being made, I went to pick out a new sink. I found a sink that I loved, but it was a 3 basin instead of two and was 8 inches wider than the design. This of course would affect the cabinetry for that entire wall. The sink needed to be centered under the window so all of the cabinets to the right would have to be adjusted. I texted Danny and told him about the sink (from the store). He immediately texted me back and told me to stay there, he would check into it. Within 10 minutes he had worked with the cabinet makers to make the changes and he told me to go ahead and buy the sink. This story basically describes my experience with Danny. If I had an issue (even if I was just not happy with how something was coming out during the construction), I would text him, we would talk on the phone for a few minutes. He would call the foreman (who was usually standing right next to me), and he would make the change or adjustment. I didn't have ANY issue that I was frustrated with that he did not address. He was constantly asking, "Are you happy?" We have now been living in this remodeled house for almost 4 years, and everything is still working! I still love my kitchen, the floors look great, the paint looks great, and everything works. They built me a quality, custom house, and it was worth every penny. People walk in my front door and almost always instantly say, "I love your house." We don't live in a mansion. It's a 3 bed, 2 bath house. But everything inside is quality and it looks amazing. I couldn't be happier with the finished process, and I enjoyed working with Good Fellas construction along the way. They finished on time and on budget, and we still keep in touch because they are friends to me now. What more could you ask for in a contractor. I hope this is helpful. :)
