Recent Review: I needed weekend repair service for my central a/c. The telephone rep was courteous and helpful. The repair tech, Mike, was prompt and professional and explained what was needed to the rep for my home warranty company when they wanted to know all the details on what was needed and what the cost was. I'm happier with Desert Air than my home warranty company.
Recent Review: We had purchased a compressor for one of our air conditioners and Arctic Air installed it and they bypassed a reversing valve on another unit. On the work order they put the cost would be $3760.00 When I got the bill it was $4,290.00. I called and complained and they changed it to the work order amount. When I asked my brother who is licensed in HVAC if what they charged me was fair he was amazed at how high the price was, especially as we supplied the compressor. They charged $2,200 to install the compressor which is 25 hours of work at $85 per hour. And they charged $450 to bypass a reversing valve. They were only here for one day and there might have been two guys working but that still doesn't warrant that high a charge. I may have to use them again if I can't get anyone else, but I know I am being overcharged. They charge $85 just to come and look at something.
Found no problem after we had Air Pro from Calexico go and tell us we needed $2,300 worth of repairs. We asked Lara for a 2nd opinion. Very honest and knowledgeable..

They were not supposed to take my old unit but they took it for the copper and when I stopped them from taking my furnace, they returned it but without the copper. When I complained they kept telling me that they would recompense us but we made numerous phone calls and they never did. The value of the copper they took was about 450.00.

Air Conditioner was not turning off. They told us we needed a new thermostat, and the A/C unit was installed correctly. Also claimed it needed Freon. This after 1 year ago they repaired something else, added freon and charged $700. The new charges were to be $2,300. We got a 2nd opinion from Lara Air Conditioning and they found no problems. Said tempreture is over 100 and if unit is set at 72 it will not go off.

I got quotes from several HVAC companies. Shelburne came out and visited with us and made recommendations based on prior installations in our neighborhood. Offered references from neighbors. Gave us a price that we felt was fair and came out and did what they said they were going to do and more. I have them come back each year in the spring and service our air conditioner before summer.

Operator answered phone in english "how can I make you smile today", w/ other calls coming in. Estimate of arrival was good, w/ phone call prior. Spanish speaking technician was very nice and explained things. Did a complete evaluation of the A/C unit even though the problem was the fuse box.

We have used Desert Air for many years. They have serviced both units at home and several units where I work. They tell you up front what it will cost and guarantee their work. We had an idea in February 2013 of moving our roof top air conditioner to the ground mainly because of a low frequency sound it was making in our bedroom. We had Mike and his crew come out and do the measurements and come up with a design. We agreed on a price and started making plans of cleaning out a closet where the duct work would come through the wall. A day or two later Mike called and said he had a better idea of isolating the unit from the roof while keeping it in place. The added insulation and better ducting eliminated the low rumble sound and the unit works better than before. It was a great idea and much less expensive. In my experience Mike and his crew do an outstanding job.

They didn't charge me for anything they didn't need to because they didn't find anything wrong. I don't have a reference point for their pricing. I would use them again.

Arctic Air (667 East Ross Avenue El Centro, CA 92243) is the worst company I have dealt with ever. Never use this company they will rip you off. My family and I live in the Imperial Valley of California where the summer temperature can reach 115 degrees. My wife and I were out of town on business, when she returned the air conditioner did not work and the temp was around 105 degrees inside our home. Our home warranty company sent Arctic Air to our house to inspect the air conditioner. The tech arrived late in the evening and informed my wife that the unit was dirty and needed to be serviced before he could even begin to work on it. He then told her that it would cost $450.00 to clean it in addition to the $55.00 for showing up. We called a different company to get a second opinion and have the system serviced for less. VICS A/C came by the next day, they cleaned and diagnosed the A/C for around $75.00 and told us the A/C coil had a leak. At this point we were so angry that Arctic Air had tried to rip us off for $450.00. Since we needed the home warranty to cover the cost of the repair, they sent Arctic air back out to work on it. They confirmed that the coil had a leak and it had to be replaced. Artic Air also said that the same coil unit was longer available and that a bigger unit would have to be installed. It also would take 4 days till the job was done. They also explained that the Insurance company would only cover the cost and replacement of the coil and Artic air would need to charge us out of pocket any where from $300-$800 for modification cost which home warranty did not cover. At this point we wanted nothing to do with Arctic Air so we took the cash out option from the home warranty company and had VICS A/C replace the coil unit. A new coil unit was put in right away without added modifications cost. Do not use Arctic Air they will rob you blind!

The technician was very professional and accommodating with my schedule. He arrived on time and waited for me to return from work. He gave me the cost of the repairs up front but charge $85 for an estimate. I have never had an a/c unit fixed and the landlord paid for the services so I did not compare prices. It seemed to me that all parts cost $295.
