Recent Review: The end result was pretty good. However, the process was not exactly as described. At the franchisee's website the process is described in detail and includes more applied coats, including two clear coats that were not used, than what was actually used to do the work on my job. The odor from new epoxy paint that is curing is always very strong. It smells something like the plastic model glue I used as a kid to build toy airplanes and ships, but there is a lot more of it and it is very concentrated. By the fifth day I quit noticing the strong smell in the house. The technician was very polite and always on time. He spent almost three hours on the sanding preparation stage. The unit had been painted about twenty years ago by carpenters who fixed up the house before listing it for sale and my subsequent purchase of it. The carpenters used epoxy paint back then, but there were some runs and uneven spots on the front because they weren't very careful when they painted it. That old paint was very hardened and not all of it came off with three hours of sanding by the technician. Had I known that would be the case, I would have spent a few more hours sanding it all out myself before calling in Miracle Method.  After it has all been done there are some rules to be followed regarding the five year warranty. No cleaning solutions with bleach or chlorine. No abrasive scouring powders. No abrasive scrubbing sponges or pads. No suction cup accessories on the paint. No rubber type bath mats left wet on the paint. No bottles left sitting on the paint. No wet soap bars left on the paint. No shower rack caddy devices hung on the shower head pipe. Don't leave any water standing on the paint after you use the unit. Wipe down the surface after using with a clean soft towel. Recommended: use an automotive paint polish product every six months to keep it looking shiny and new just like you would do with car paint.  Yes, you have to "baby" it after it has been done or else you may end up damaging the paint one way or another and will have voided your warranty, too.  Lastly, I was quoted $150 to fix a chip/crack in fiberglass, that was about the size of a dime, from what appeared to be a strike from a claw hammer head. It had been there from the day I bought the house. I thought that price was way out of line, but I do understand that sight unseen the contractor is quoting for "a pig in a poke" and may end up with a job for a badly damaged unit that he can't even work with. So, I went online at the Ace Hardware website and ordered a two ounce size container of XP7 epoxy putty for less than $10 and picked it up at their local store about a week later. It worked really well for the repair, was simple and easy to work use, dried as hard as a stone, and you couldn't find it again if you didn't know where it was after the painting was done. I saved $140 by doing that. I also got $35 off of the price for printing the Angie's List discount coupon and mentioning it only AFTER I got Miracle Method's quote -- which brought the price down to $800. It averages out to around $100 an hour to have this done. However, considering the cost, time and trouble of removing and replacing a unit such as this, it's worth every penny I paid for it.

FJC'S PLUMBING
They took my bath area down to the studs and put the walls in crooked, and the tile in crooked. I'm going to have to rip out their work and start over. These people might be good plumbers, but they are not good tile-workers.

AMiracle Method of Contra Costa & Alameda Counties
I spoke to Barbara. She reported they have been in business for 32 years. They do a full bottom rebuild with fiberglass that takes 2 to 4 hours to apply and ready to use by the next day. There is a 5 year warranty against the coating peeling, but no other warranty. She says they don't get call backs on their fiberglass repair and some customers have had the repairs in place 10 years. They often get called to fix a crack where an over the counter fiberglass repair product did not work. Depending on the crack they may be able to do a crack repair for $250. Otherwise the full bottom rebuild costs around $725 - $740, with an optional gel coat application for another $300. Many customers forgo the gel coat. All of the technicians have been with the company for several years. Currently the work can be scheduled in 1 to 2 days. For more information about her product she referred me to their web site www.mmeastbay.com

AMiracle Method of Contra Costa & Alameda Counties
It was a great experience from start to finish.  The shower pan is 35 old, and the finish was already shot when I bought the house years ago.  I'd already tried some do-it-yourself stuff from Home Depot on two previous occasions; that lasted a couple of years and then looked bad again.  So the next thing was to decide on a professional refinish or an overlay from Re-Bath.   I went with Miracle Method, after reading their reviews and am very pleased with the outcome.  I never did take a close look at Re-Bath, so they might be ok too, but Miracle Method was a good choice for me.  I spoke with Dean at Miracle Method, and he quoted me a price right over the phone after asking some questions in order to clarify the problem.  It was a very pleasant conversation and I felt confident about their service.  We scheduled for the work to be done, and William (with 10 years experience) arrived promptly on the day of the work.  He was exptremely polite and professional.  He parked in the street, even though I offered him the driveway.  He said just in case of any spills of their product during the work, he preferred the street.  That was good thinking and greatly appreciated. He carefully brought his work materials into the house and went right to putting protective tarps on the bathroom floor and walls.  He covered everything except the shower pan.  It was a lot of prep, and then he began sanding off the old finish.  He worked in there for several hours, with trips to his truck as needed.  He got all the actual work done that day.   He set a fan in the bathroom window to draw the lacquer smell outside, and recommended I leave that running overnight if possible, with the bathroom door closed.  Then he came back the next morning to check his work and take down the tarps, and did a great job of cleaning up.    It looks like a brand new shower in there.  And William went over some of the acceptable cleaning products with me.  This isn't a factory baked-on finish, so you have to read the five-year warranty and be mindful of what you clean it with; no harsh abrasives.  And, no shower mats with suction cups; those are very bad for this product, but easy to avoid.  Dean went over the facts about shower mats in the very beginning, so I knew how to work around that problem.  The maintenance is easy.       I'm extremely pleased with how this work  turned out and happy that I chose Miracle Method of Contra Costa County.  I bought a shower squeegee and I use it after every shower, and just keep it clean.  The warranty doesn't say to do that, but I'm doing what I can to make this finish last even longer than five years. Oh, and they stuck to the quoted price too; no surprises.

BRe-Bath By Schicker
The representative who spoke on the phone had limited knowledge of their services. He did tell me they only offer full liners or remodel for cracked showers . They don't repair cracks. He didn't know the cost but guessed it would be over $1,200 for a liner. To obtain specific costs and estimate requires an on site visit by a technician. There is no charge for the evaluation.

Shelly answered the phone, and right a away mentioned an acrylic overlay process that has a lifetime warranty. It takes a day and a half to apply, which might work for me. But then she wouldn't explain if the process could just be applied to the floor of the shower or if it had to coat the entire shower stall. She mentioned prices of $895 - $1,500.00 but wouldn't say what the prices covered. Then she said price would start at $1,500. I couldn't get her to clarify the discrepancies in prices or what the cost covered, e.g. a liner or the acrylic overlay. I don't know if she wasn't listening to my questions or just didn't want to answer them. I felt she was pushy in trying to set up an appointment. Estimates are free. But I prefer to restrict the contactors entering my home to those who offer the services I want and may be able to afford.

ABD Home Improvements
My house was built in1960 and prior home improvements were not done...  professionally.  Bruce was able to regrout around my fiberglass shower pan and around the tub despite cracks and fraying at the tub and shower pan, and still make it look pretty good. I really appreciate his effort to leave a professional looking result despite serious problems with the existing installation.

BRe-Bath of The Bay Area
A bit of a hard sell when they do the estimate. I really like how the new shower stall looks. The man who came to do the installation was very careful in his work. He did an excellent job. He was neat & precise, and finished job is great. We love the new shower! There website and telephone "hold" message touts how they will give you a new bathroom in "just one day," and they market that very hard, but it took 2+ days to finish mine. Felt like Bait & Switch. Very nice people, but poor customer service; phone calls not returned. I had to really stay on top of them to get my installation calendared and ensure they installed what we had agreed upon in the written contract, as there were numerous mistakes in the accessories they brought over. I had to keep pointing out discrepancies. Get your own fixtures; don't go with what they offer in their showroom. Despite service issues, the reason I would hire them again is because product is great & they are a franchise with a territory lock.

George responded quickly and was able to come out later that same day. When he arrived he smelled of cigarrette smoke. Unfortunately, I am very sensitive to cigarrette smoke. He recommended repairing the fiberglass shower with a fiber glass patch. But on further questioning he admitted he'd not had experience with patching fiberglass showers. Others told me they'd had customers complain that the fiberglass patches did not work. George didn't have any suggestions on how he could make the repair work. George accessed our electrical needs and felt he would need to cut a channel in the ceiling from the nearest wall to where the light fixture would be located. He explained his Hepa vacuum would capture the dust. I expressed my concern because I knew from experience that the hepa vacuums did not capture all the dust and was concerned about possible asbestos contamination. He offered to wet down the areas disturbed to minimize the dust. He made good observations about the configuration of our ceiling and felt there were a few factors that would prevent the fishing of the wires in the ceiling. He suggested running a covered electical channel along the surface of the ceiling instead of running the wires in the ceiling. This was a good economical suggestion, but a visible electrical channel is not the look I want for my home. I wasn't comfortable with his suggested approach and the potential for asbestos release into my home. I felt the containment practices that he described were below the standards of the California and EPA Renovation and Repair Regulations for houses built before 1978. So I did not pursue a bid.
