Recent Review: They were very professional from the estimate to completion. They closed up the opening from hallway to dining room and demo'ed a wall to install pocket doors. They also enlarged a doorway to install french doors. The doors are beautiful. They finished on time and under budget!

Kirk L Siegfried Design & Construction
Recent Review: Kirk was hired to remodel a bath that turned into an entire house remodel. He did excellent work. He excels at tile work, but is quite able to handle any general contracting job including carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical. He also does design work, so he can see the big picture. He is willing to coordinate with other contractors, such as roofers or HV/AC. When he is working by himself, he is a bit slow, but he when he brings in assistants, he gets things done quickly. Most importantly, he listens to the customers desires. Contact me at fresnodon@gmail.com for more information.

JZ Construction & JZ Design Center
Recent Review: I've got to tell you, these folks are a class act; from the owners, to the office management, to the measurers, to the installers.  I was hesitant about contacting any company for such a big job but knew it was necessary.  Before my research I didn't know any of these folks, nor did I, (to my knowledge), know anyone who had done business with JZ Construction. (Prior to my being a member of Angie's List), I researched JZ Construction on line, with the BBB, met & spoke with the owners of JZ directly then checked up on them by speaking with the production manager of the manufacturing company whose product I wanted JZ to install.  (I also checked out other companies & manufactures of competing product lines.) Why did I choose JZ Construction?  After doing my research, along with the personal care JZ  invested in me, I knew there was no one else with whom I would feel so comfortable about doing the job.  I was very pleased to work with a local business; rather than some large company or "big box" chain.  I feel there is better access and more accountability for a local businessperson/ company.   I am not the most trusting person and am careful regarding my personal security and with whom I allow access to my home (to put it mildly).  JZ informed me their employees undergo a solid background check (or are bonded; I cannot remember which - it might be both).  Anyway, any anxieties that might have lurked in the recesses of my mind vanished when the project manager met me at my house early one morning before I left for work to take final measurements prior to the office ordering my desired windows & doors.  (Before any final order is placed 2 different people from JZ come to the house to take measurements.) JZ worked with my schedule and let me know what to expect in the process.  They came out to my house to view the existing windows/doors & structure and to let me now which products could likely work best.  They gave me brochures of the product, explained the warranties, and let me roam about their showroom looking at examples.  The folks at JZ were exceptionally patient (and understanding) of my multitude of questions, e-mails & phone calls and popping into their office/showroom unexpectedly, and, of course, my changing parts of my order because I thought I'd like to try a few things different from my original plans.   JZ answered all my questions and never hedged with a response. So, what did JZ install? (2) garden windows (custom-sized), (2) double-hung windows, (4) horizontal slider windows, (2) privacy glass horizontal windows, (1) privacy glass (non opening) slender picture window, (2) sets of gorgeous French doors (which replaced 2 horrid, noisy sliding glass doors), and the piece de resistance is a glorious 500 pound custom bay window with etched border.  (That alone took 4 men and a small lift!)   As an extra measure, overnight JZ had constructed for me (2) oak corbels to be placed on the exterior of the house under the bay as an added safety/stability precaution - this without my having to ask and at no additional charge to me.  They really do think of everything!  Teri Z. also dropped by in the middle of the project to check up on things and her crew; she cares about their safety as well.  (JZ also had the security system folks, (who had installed security on our property), check out the system to make certain it would function properly with the new windows/doors, (2) sets of retracting screen doors (for the French doors) installed and had a painter come in to finish the ledge & "ceiling" portion of the huge bay window.) By the way, we thought this project might take 5 days & the job was finished in just under three. Owners, employees & staff? Joe & Teri Zingarelli, can't thank you enough!  What an absolute pleasure to do business with you and your employees.  Heidi Graham - office manager without parallel; so patient with a good sense of humor.  The crew are the BEST - Bryan, John, Mike and Juan - talk about a terrific group of men!  Courteous (if they ever cursed, and they had plenty of reason to on this project, I never heard a peep of foul language from any of them), skilled, good humored, timely, cleaned up after themselves as they went along.  (Have never seen any construction project so clean at the end of each work day!)  What these men do is give value; they are a critical aspect of this project.  I respect each of them.   Regrets?  Absolutely none!  I recommend JZ Construction to anyone who is thinking about installing windows/doors in one's own home.

DO NOT hire this company. The owner is Dale Ellis and his son is Brandon Ellis, the guy you'll ultimately work with, when he decides to show up. We have been 'taken' before and we were sure to do our research this time and not hire deadbeats. We failed. PLEASE let our mistake be your lesson. Do not give them one cent! During our consultations (that they were always late to - we should have known something was wrong), they gave us ALL the right 'feels', words and plans prior to hiring them and even into the first few visits. They even proclaimed their Christianity as a means to 'seal the deal'. They kept saying things like "we want you to love this when we are done, so let's do it right." I will admit that Brandon's vision and plan matched with what I wanted (or perhaps he just made it sound that way). Everything we asked for they told us was doable in some manner. Changes were happily included by them and re-worked into the contract. (However, we had to keep asking for the contract to be re-written and re-sent so we had the most updated version.) We were given a staggered payment plan that timed out to the end of the project leaving 10% to be paid at our final inspection and satisfaction. It all appeared to be a safe choice and going well...... The architect they use (which they made us pay for up front: $3700), David Palacios, does work for them as his second job so expect to wait and wait and wait for those plans to be finished on his time. The plans took THREE MONTHS to get approved by the City of Fresno. The Joshua Group said it was out of their hands but they also weren't doing anything proactive like calling and asking for updates or pushing the city to finish because they told us they were afraid to make them mad. (If contractors aren't brave enough to ask about their own jobs, no one wins.) This made me wonder if they had already done something to tick the city off and now all of The Joshua Group plans would be held up. It's something to definitely consider before you hire them. (PLEASE don't hire them!) Once demo finished, we saw slow but steady progress until the first inspection that we failed miserably. (They told us they had never failed an inspection.) The fixes were made (after needing the architect and his timeline again) and worked only resumed after my husband went down to the City and asked about our plans. They were approved the next day. Hmm, funny how that works. Over the course of the four months they were with us at first they were arriving at my home at 8:15. However, when demo was done, frequently, they would arrive between 9:30 and 10:00am and leave around 5:00. BUT, there were several days they only worked until 12:00 or 2:00 and about 3 days they worked until 6PM. The crew they employed were unskilled, scary and I didn't feel comfortable leaving my home in their hands when Brandon wasn't on site, which was often. They were also messy leaving water and gatorade bottles and their lunch remnants everywhere. Our cabinets were not all correctly ordered or inspected by this contractor upon delivery and we still do not have things we paid for like pull-out shelving and trash can cabs. Some cabs were even the wrong size and we ended up paying for more cabs due to HIS errors! He was supposed to extend a wall and didn't which led to the wrong cabinet sizes. There was not enough tile to complete the back splash and now we are left buying more. Once he discovered he didn't have enough money to complete the job he WALKED OUT AND QUIT. He told us we were unable to be satisfied and complained too much about his workers being unskilled, slow, and not on time (all of which they were). After taking time off work to get other estimates to complete the job, our best financial decision was to try to get him to come back and finish. He agreed but after that we were so afraid to say anything remotely negative in fear that he would again walk. Looking back, it would have been better to do that but we were doing our best to just get it finished. We had a May 27th deadline for our daughter's high school graduation party which they knew about for months. (We hired them on November 19th.) Once Brandon knew he had us against a wall he started asking for more money, telling us he only had $300 to his name. He did this at least five times in the last few weeks we were with them. In one of our last contacts to Dale, he admitted that he had used our money for another project they were working on and could not do anything more until they had more money. His last words were, "I'll get back to you ASAP with a plan". That was 2.5 weeks ago and they have not many any contact attempts to update us on when they might be back over to complete our kitchen. They left our kitchen with no running water, spotty exposed electrical wires, no means of cooking food, and no flooring. These are the major items, there is also still all the finish work (caulking, painting, shelving, tiling, etc.) that is undone. Please do yourself a favor and hire someone else. Just don't even tempt fate with Dale or Brandon Ellis.

AClovis Glass
When we purchased the house, one of the outdoor facing french doors had the outer glass pane broken.  One of the stipulations of buying the house was that the seller would fix the window.  After purchasing the house, before moving in, we were at the house when it was raining, and there was water trickling in between the window unit and the door.  Dave came out looked at the sealant around the outer edge of the window unit and told me that the problem was when the glass was replaced, whoever did the work didn't properly seal the outer face of the glass against the window frame in the door.  The work took about 30-45 minutes, and Dave showed me the results after he was done.  Overall, great work and it saved me a ton over having to buy a whole new window unit!
