Reviews in Escalon to Build Carports

ACNR Construction Co
We are very pleased with the new addition Ray and his crew completed for us. They built our new structure from the ground up. This new addition includes the cement foundation, plumbing (connection to our well and septic tank), air conditioner unit, electrical, framing, gutters, roof, insulation, windows, shower/bathroom installation and patio doors. You name it, they installed it. Ray had quick responses and suggestions any time we had questions. We will definitely keep his number for future work. We would hire him again and plan on doing so in the future. I have recommended him to family members as well as co-workers.

FJKB HOMES CORP
I would never ever use this builder again. In fact, we almost walked away twice because we were so disgusted with their practices and lack of customer service and professionalism. They withheld information more than once that ended up costing us more money. They told us they were doing everything to keep our house on track for the closing date so we locked in our loan at a great rate. Then we found out the house would be a month behind schedule by a document sent to our loan officer. They didn't even have the courtesy to tell us. The builder said he would pay for some of the fees for the extended loan lock only if the loan company and both agents ate the cost too. Then when it was time to pay he wouldnt do it. Even after signing a document saying he would. He also advertised his development as having no mello roos. Then our realtor found out from from another client that there were in fact mello roos and the builder knew about for quite some time and never revealed it to us. 17 families were effected by this. We then tried to ask him to comp our upgrades equal to the amount of the taxes. He just flat out rejected our proposal, no counter, no nothing. He did not try to work with us on anything. Even professionals who have been in the real estate business for years say they have never seen something this bad. I understand things happen when building a new home that sometimes can't be helped by the builder. However the way JKB Homes handled everything shows, in my opinion, that this builder lacks integrity and has no interest in working with his clients. It seems to be all about the money regardless of how families are affected. I do not feel I could trust anything this builder said now. If you are looking for a new home I recommend avoiding the potential hassle that comes with JKB.

Required 10% deposit before starting. Stole redwood lumber from building they tore down. Refused to return any of my deposit after I fired him. Taking him to small claims court!

Amazing outcome! I feel like the quality of the work is excellent. If a problem arose (which they always do with old houses) they handled it promptly and efficiently. Fair, trustworthy, and dedicated to please the customer!

ABrawley Construction
We chose Brawley Construction to complete our project of a total home remodel over the past few months. What started as needing an office for my home based business led to a complete remodel.... completely by our own choice! We were so happy with the plans and work Mike and crew did on the living room addition which allowed us to create new office room, and gave us three larger bedrooms for the family, we decided to go all out and add on a kitchen remodel as well. Services were done in a timely manner and Mike was always available to answer questions or help with any needs we might of had. Brawley Constriction went above and beyond to help make our home remodel look like a brand new house. We have had so many compliments on the work they did and I know we will use them again in the future when it comes time to update the bathrooms. I highly recommend Brawly Construction if you are looking for good workmanship, good prices, reliability and good all around professionalism.

ASilver Tree Landscaping
They were on time.  I was very impressed with them even though I didn't choose them.  My next door neighbor used them and it was gorgeous what they did.  We did not find them on Angie's List.  We have a new community so we got names from people in the community that used these people.  The owner's name is Keith Brathovd.  I was very pleased with both their interaction and their work that I had seen.  I think their quote was around $24000.00.  I liked some of the suggestions he made.  I liked what I felt was his up front honesty about pricing.  I liked the fact that he recommended I get a couple more quotes before deciding on whom to choose.  When I did call him to tell him I wasn't going to use him, he spoke very highly of the person I picked as well.  I think he was professional, prompt, and reasonable.  I think he did quality work.  I would use them again in the future.  They are one of the companies that are generally used in the area where I live.  They also offer monthly maintenance on yard work and stuff in addition to their landscape abilities.

CSTARLITE CONSTRUCTION
The house, generally, was well-built.  But, most of the specialty items were not done properly (or at all).  The electrical system was not done well.  A 220-volt circuit was not installed at all, even though on the blueprints; this has left me to this day with no instant hot water in the back bathroom. Other separate 110-volt circuits on the blueprints were not installed, so I could not run room air conditioners in particular bedrooms. The house has had constant problems ever since.  I have long extension cords running around, to get power, and lights flicker all the time. Also, during construction, he told me several times that he did not want to do something in the contract because he gave us too good a price on the construction.  So, I allowed him to eliminate 100s of dollars of things listed in the contract. And then at the end of construction, he asked me if I wanted to have him build me a driveway into the garage.  It cost at least $1500 to re-do the sidewalk and curb. After construction was finished, we gave him a letter with 6 things he had done incorrectly (not including the electrical issues).  He did not fix (or attempt to fix) any of them.  One that was most annoying was, he placed a hollow-core interior door for my back door.  It was flimsy, and way too small to fit properly in the opening, and let the noise come through.  We just let the whole thing go, and did not pursue action against him. I would say that he can build a generic house OK, but do not ask for anything special.

DGabbert Construction Inc
The good: Carl built it 6 months as was requested. Carl came up with several good ideas as we were building the house Carl is a good "rough in" carpenter but in my opinion is NOT a good finish carpenter for a $600k custom house. The bad: Some of the Sub contractors Carl used were not very good. Concrete sub was bad. The large garage entry way developed a large crack  within  3 months of moving in. Carl tried to say it was my fault for not preparing the ground.. They did not use steel rod when they poured it. The sub replaced it, then billed me. I refused to pay, he put a lien on my property. Only after I agreed to pay $900 for the steel did they remove the lien. I've since developed cracks in the front porch and the back porch. The roof contractor Carl hired was horrible and is no longer in business. I have a tile roof and tiles are sliding out, broken, caps on the hips are loose, Flashing not done correctly. It's typical that a contractor offer 10 year warranty on tile roof. However, Carl says that since his sub is no longer in business, that it's not his problem so he wont' cover it. Estimated cost to repair is $6000 - $8500. Carl and team are NOT good finish carpenters. I had custom designed kitchen island and cabinets installed. Carl's team did not install the drain for the under counter ice maker. So when we turned it on, it leaked water all over my maple hardwood floor and caused it to buckle. Hardwood sub had to come out and replace large areas of the floor. We had  a large custom Island built with Ice maker, compactor, and dishwasher under the island. When they installed the custom countertop on top of the island, Carl did not take into account the custom edge on the slab so he did not build the island at the right height so all the appliances would fit underneath. He had to remove all the feet from the appliances for them to fit. So now whenever they need to be repaired, the floor gets scratched when the repair man needs to pull out the appliance. I had several drywall cracks caused by settling which is to be expected. However, Carl's team came in to fix them and basically painted over them. One area in the kitchen ceiling where they painted over it with gloss paint vs flat paint. Needless to say, the cracks have reappeared and I'll have to hire another contractor to come and fix them. I had asked specifically that all roof vents were screened to keep birds out. They were not. I asked specifically that the columns built in front and back of the house be screened or covered to keep birds out, they were not. I realize there are issues that come up when building a house and it's how those issues are handled that makes the difference. In my conversations with Carl to get some of the items fixed, I was disappointed that Carl didn't care to resolve those issues. At the end of the day, I ask myself if I would use Gabbert Construction again as builder.  Perhaps for a small remodel job or perhaps a small and cheap house, I would consider it. But for a custom house, I definitely would not use Gabbert Construction again.

AMikita Construction
Paul (owner of Mikita Construction) is everything you want in a contractor.  I hired him to build a 640 sq Ft addition/attached -in-law quarters that will include a fairly large kitchen expansion and remodel.   After our initial consultation with Paul, we received a quote that was rather high.  After some clarification, Paul gave us a high quote based on a lot of 'unknowns'.  We didn't have any specifics selected prior to his consultation: appliances, electrical fixtures, paint, flooring etc etc... so Paul gave us a high quote that would naturally be adjusted lower as the project developed and evolved depending on material that we selected. It should be noted that Paul was up front that his specialty is "framing" and that we hired him to be the project manager for the project - which means that he was/is in charge of hiring sub contractors that will work under his supervision for what he hires them for. Paul is honest and forthright in his approach and takes accountability if there are incident(s) that go wrong.  We only had one incident involving bad weather which resulted in some unfortunate and unexpected material damage - without issue Paul stepped up and addressed the issue to our complete satisfaction.  Additionally, my project required City inspections and, to my knowledge, he passed every inspection 1st time around. Our project is finally completed, my families' only frustration was the natural lengthy time period it took for project completion - 3-4 months.  Paul was completely aware of the frustration and did his absolute best to move things along.  Mikita Construction has a Facebook page that you can view his work from and he also comes ready and prepared with references. Throughout the project we added on many 'odds and ends' - extra lighting, concrete walk-ways as well as fixing some dry-wrought issues that were pre-existing.  All of those things had me concerned about our over all budget.  Paul was aware of my concerns and ensured me we would be on budget - which he met.  My wife and I have already made plans for additional renovation in the future and FULLY intend to hire Paul to do the work. One of my biggest concerns before starting this project was hiring a bad contractor.  I am so happy to be able to refer Paul as an AWESOME contractor.  If I had questions, issues, concerns... Paul was always willing to listen, educate, help, come up with solutions and put the customer at ease.  Lastly, there were a number of different sub contractors that were involved on my project.  I'm incredibly happy that I hired Paul to hire and manage the sub contractors, I simply wouldnt have been able to do it. This is one happy and completely satisfied customer.
