Reviews in Emeryville to Repair Walls

AEco Friendly Energy Company
We initially hired Eco Friendly to remove the chimney that the associated fireplace had been blocked off and had wall board over it from a previous remodel. They came out and gave us an estimate which we found reasonable. They started immediately and completed it in the allotted time frame. Not only did they remove the chimney, they also removed the fireplace, repaired the stucco,  matched the paint of the wall and repaired the roof. It looks absolutely beautiful!   We were so happy with their work on that project, we hired them to replace for the backyard fence re-do. They did a great job at communicating with us, they cleaned up when they were done for the day and were overall very professional. We are overjoyed with the results and will definitely use them for any future projects!

ANichols Retaining Walls & Pavers
The wood retaining wall in our backyard was old and collapsing.  After getting a couple of quotes, we decided to go with Nichols because: 1) he is professional and knowledgeable, 2) he quoted $2,000 less and 3) his estimated time to clear the old wall and build a new wall was a couple days less than the other guys!  He brought by sample blocks for us to look at on Sunday, started work on Monday and by Wednesday afternoon we had a new wall!  The wall looks really nice and level and a hundred times better than our old wood mess.

AMr Pavers
So smooth! We loved the crew, (Roger and Leo) and the estimator was so kind and honest (Cal) and I just wanted to say the price was great, the knowledge and their professionalism was perfect. My neighbor referred us to them, after 3 estimates, we had to go with Mr. Pavers and we are so glad we did. The before and after pics are wonderful but the smile on my mom's face and how happy she is, has no words. We thank you Mr. Pavers for your loyalty and your hard work. Happy customer!! I highly recommend!

This was tricky, because the wall had to match other retaining walls that are almost 100 years old. Other contractors I spoke to had no interest in trying this.

I highly recommend Rick, he's incredibly knowledgeable, trustworthy, and honest. He looked out for my best interests the whole job through, made necessary changes to the scope as needed for a better solution, communicated constantly with me and worked within my budget. He's a super hard working guy and so friendly, I'll use him again for sure and will recommend him to my clients (I'm a Realtor).

Fantastic. Chris McDonnell is absolutely fantastic! We had a terrible time trying to find a stove to fit our 1982 kitchen. Chris moved the gas mains behind the stove, to do this correctly he opened the wall and sealed up the wall again to such high standards we were amazed. He is honestly fantastic.

AQuality Gardening & Landscaping
Gophers chewed under former wooden retaining wall and emptied dirt onto concrete next to my house. Plus, large agave plants were also threatening to bring down a 30 year retaining wall. I got two estimates, Chris came out to give me an estimate, measured the wall exactly and followed up with a written estimate. He was also ON TIME and that is huge with me. The work took about 7 days (we were out of town) and about 6-7 people. They replaced the wooden wall with a concrete block wall. It looks fabulous, it will last forever. In the meantime, part of our back fence fell during a recent windstorm. My first call was to QLC and Chris. I don't need another estimate. They are coming out next week to replace a portion of the fence.

They provided a prompt estimate and were very professional. Mike offered wonderful advice. The guys did an excellent job constructing the walls. We were very pleased and impressed with the results. Every rock was fit to perfection. We will definitely use them for future projects. We look forward to working with them again. Great guys all-around.

Recent Review: Installed a sitting wall and fire pit along the edge of our patio.
Recent Review: I am still receiving bids for both jobs so I have not made a final hiring decision.
Recent Review: It was remarkably painless. Their bid (for the painting, before we knew how much carpentry would be needed) was much lower than two other bids I had gotten, but their documentation was excellent, their references checked out, the reviews on Angie's List were positive, and they responded quickly and fully to my email questions, so I decided to give them the job. They were able to go to work on our project right away. Once they got the walls open, the carpenter was able to very rapidly put together a quote for the carpentry work. The bids ($3600 for the painting, $3250 for the dry rot repair and carpentry) were exactly what we wound up paying. The work went very quickly, and was completed while I was out of town for the weekend. I returned to a dazzlingly bright house. The handling of the trim around the doors and windows was immaculate, and the siding patches were matched to the original darn near perfectly. And, as I mentioned, they took care of the wooden fence around my front yard without asking, and even painted the retaining wall (which needed it, but which I had neglected to ask about) at no extra charge. I confess that, had I been there to view the work before they finished, I probably would have negotiated to have them put on an additional coat, just for added longevity, but the coverage (primer+one coat gloss latex from Sherman-Williams) was quite complete and I am confident it will look good for quite a while. And as proof that they stand behind their work, they came back on the Saturday after I returned (i.e. after I had paid them in full) to finish up painting the edges of a door (which they could not have opened while I was out of town). The workers were always prompt, polite and professional, and the entire job stress free.

Recent Review: I had experience already with All Seasons Construction and was very happy with their retrofit work.  Mark Corallo is very professional and easy to work with.  This time we wanted to replace a cement walkway and replace a cracking retaining wall.  Mark always has great ideas in solving certain issues that he anticipates and is always prompt with an estimate.  This time we had Miguel as the foreman for the job and I was equally impressed with him.  There are always minor adjustments that need to be made throughout the project and I found Miguel very bright and also an excellent problem solver.  He gave me his cell phone the first day of work and always responded quickly if I ever called him, even when I called a week after the project was over.  The crew kept the area fairly clean and everything was picked up when they were done.  Overall, I am very impressed with the professionalism and quality of this companies work and will certainly use them in the future.
Recent Review: Excellent! I am so glad that we decided to go with Austin at Upright Engineering. Austin was a pleasure to work with. He seemed genuinely excited about our project. He found workarounds to achieve structural changes that others told us would be impossible. We took down several walls in our home, raised the ceiling and added large sliding doors and windows. He was knowledgeable about city requirements, responsive and very quick. He has since followed up to make sure the project is going smoothly and has worked with the contractor to address any questions he has had. We are so thankful to have found Austin- we highly recommend him!

Recent Review: Very good the result is beautiful. They were timely, friendly, and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.
Recent Review: He and his crew did a beautiful job. They were very efficient. I had a French drain put in, a new rock wall built, sprinkler and drip system throughout, and many trees and plants. I also put in a swing and extended my fence. It's wonderful and magical.
Recent Review: First, there are not enough superlatives to bestow on Atlas Pavers as a company, its employees, owners or the quality of their work. With that said, let me share some examples of their outstanding professionalism, skills, commitment to their customers and deep understanding of a project’s need. After being informed in August of 2016 that my 1930s home needed drainage to preserve its foundation, months of research began. Not only did I have to find and decide on which company was proficient in drainage, I also had to decide on replacing the aged and broken concrete with more concrete or pavers. Learning that pavers would be better long-term—since it’s known the Bay Area has earthquakes (small tremors to large quakes)—I chose pavers. Next came deciding which company could do the work in my area, keeping in mind that the primary focus was on drainage and appearances secondary; thus, leaving only two companies on my list. Knowing the project was large: grading, two retaining walls, steps, a walkway and driveway…I believed the smaller of the two to be less knowledgeable and unprepared to handle the job, so, I chose Atlas. Jeanne, Atlas’ Design Consultant, was not only pleasant to work with, but understood the goal of the project was drainage; giving me total confidence in my decision to go with Atlas. Within a week, Jeanne returned with a specialist, Radek. Radek not only saw the problem right away and began planning on how to correct the issue of standing water against my foundation and under my house, he explained everything to me in a through and professional manner—never once talking down to me, in that “little-woman” voice so many contractors use. Together, the three of us developed a plan and design for the project that fit my budget—something that is rare when working with contractors! Work began in late November and finished just before the rain began in early December—a total of three weeks. Junior, the Chief Operating Officer, was on-site every workday morning. The crew was efficient and friendly—they carried my groceries in for me since I had to keep my car on the street. They also fitted the five down spouts into drains, and several hidden French drains behind the retaining walls carry water to the main system, along with a drain in front of a basement door and end of the driveway. When they encountered an unexpected plumbing problem, they informed me and called a plumber immediately. When I discovered leaking faucets, there was no problem, other than rainy days, for the same plumber to return and fix the aged faucets. After all the rains this winter, there has been NO standing water against nor under my house, no sagging of the driveway, and the design is subtle but consistent with the era of the house. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the quality of the work from the Atlas team…I only wish they gave lessons to other contractors.
