Recent Review: I'm in Palmdale CA, 15th Street W. and Avenue O.  Sure glad I found United Carports!  Great customer service, Diane promptly answered my many questions.  We communicated mostly by email with a few phone calls.  She promptly adjusted price based on my several changes to specifications and options.  Price was VERY good compared to others after much online shopping and estimates from local contractors.  I got the certified plans from United Carports and used those plans to get the permit for LA County (a "learning experience").   I was quite nervous about the down payment and $500 for the plans as I didn't know if plans would be approved.  After a couple of mods to the plans and about $3500 to the County, they were approved much to my relief.  It took about 3 months for County to approve them. After finally getting approved plans,  I got a local contractor for the concrete floor, he just followed the plans and did an excellent job.  Then United Carports sent out a team to put up the building.  It took about 2 1/2 days.  It was obviously an experienced installation team with 2 to 6 installers working on it at any given time.  I'm VERY happy with the results, it is rated for 110 mph winds per County requirements for Antelope Valley so it is a little more sturdy than the standard frame.   The building isn't perfect but I didn't expect perfection for the price.  The building is sound and was wind/rain tested a couple of days after the install.  I got some drafts and blow-in around the bottom base rail.  I asked United Carports about methods for better sealing .  I was just looking for some tips on getting a better seal and fully expected to do it myself.  But the next day one of the owners made the 4-hour round trip to my house to help with sealing!  Awesome customer support after the install!  The standard roll-up doors are a bit "cheesy" but quite serviceable.  I ordered optional seals around them but they still won't be sealed well around the sides.  For the price, I didn't expect any better.  If I decide better roll-up doors are needed in the future, then it appears it won't be  difficult to replace them. Windows and walk-in doors were good quality. Overall, a great experience working with United Carports customer service and the installation team.  I am quite impressed with the final product, it exceeds my expectations.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Recent Review: I contacted several GC to discuss building my new home. Tim was one of the few to respond promptly.  I deal with a lot of builders; I am a real estate appraiser.  Tim was the epitome of professionalism and courtesy.  When we left, my wife left her handbag.  20 minutes later (saturday afternoon late) we called to see if Tim had seen it.  He stayed for the 40 minutes it took us to return, even though he had a dinner engagement.       Tim asks all the right questions, presents the options, makes sure both of you have the same expectations.  Although we haven't started the project (my fault, not Tims)  I can vouch that he will give you straight answers, even if it may not get him the job or be what you want to hear.  But you will know why, and if the answers do work for you, Tim will follow up professionally.

Reviews in Davis to Build Carports

CHome Remodeler Inc.
I never got his quote. I was also told that the project probably woudn't be started till early spring. Still would have been nice to receive the quote anyway. I ended up going with Tuff Shed because they quoted the project and followed up. I only got one actual quote back out of 6 contractors who came to measure the site.

BPRO CALIBER CONSTRUCTION CO
The project came out looking great. The contractor was very conscientious about the quality of materials he selected and about clean up each day. Detailed architect's plans were provided to the contractor and other bidders. I selected Pro Caliber based on his references and his competitive bid. I was disappointed with the slowness of the project, which took 4-1/2 months to complete. This was due primarily to the contractor often working short days. I was also disappointed with the contractor's failure to follow the architect's construction details. It was clear that the contractor relied on his own tried and true methods at times instead of following the plans. This resulted in a slightly different project than drawn (the ceiling ended up about 6 inches higher than specified, for example). Overall, the project went well. My wife and I are very pleased with the final result.

ARICK MOSS BUILDER
Very pleased with outcome. We got a fixed bid up front and Rick stuck to it. Additions were discussed and approved in writing beforehand. Rick is a one-stop shop and doesn't subcontract out his work (unless it's electrical or some other specialty he isn't licensed for). Only criticism I have is that the work took quite a bit longer than any of us anticipated, although I attribute this to the poor construction of the original carport more than faulty estimates or poor planning.

FFabri-Steel West Inc
I purchased my building in 2005 from Fabri Steel West and I found out later they contract out the actual building of it. Anyhow, I'm a reasonable guy but I had many issues with John as the project went on. First, I had the pad all graded by a professional land grading contractor. John's concrete subcontractor came out, formed it up, laid in the rebar, leveled the gravel, etc. They poured and finished the concrete pad, and then John comes to me telling me because the pad was not level enough they had to use much more concrete and it would cost me an additional $3,000. I explained to him that had he told me that earlier I would have called the grading company back and asked them to fix it. I end up having to split the cost with John. Second, his building erection subcontractor had a crew that for some reason only worked 1/2 days and then would not show up for days. I called John and got no response. I then called the subcontractor to see what the hold up was, and when John found out I did that he called me very angry that I had "went around him". I felt I had no choice since John was not calling me back and I was on a time line to have my building completed for my business. Third, I ordered four windows. Since I'm a computer aided design professional I drew up elevation drawing of the four sides of the building which showed the exact locations of the windows. They were purposely placed up in the top section of the 16' wall. The window installation was another subcontractor and when John and I reviewed the placement, he was surprised that I wanted them so high. He was also very annoyed that he had returned the lift and now needed to rent it again. John, you should have looked at the detailed drawings I provided. Fourth, My fault for living with a leaky roof for 13 years but I did because I didn't want anything to do with Fabri Steel West. Today had a licensed roofer come clean my roof and try to locate the leaks and to his surprise he found out quickly the source. The erecting crew when installing the roof missed the beams with their screws and because of that relocated the screws to the proper place, BUT left the holes. This was in many locations. This is the reason for me leaving a review 13 years later...too much! Side note, about 5 years ago John called me and asked if I could be used as a reference. I straight up told him "John, you would not want me to be a reference, I'm not a happy client"...he never asked why or probed to see if he could do anything to correct that. Seems a little odd to be calling a 12 year old customer for a reference...maybe he's lacking happy clients? Please take a good hard look at your options for metal buildings. Ask for recent references, and ask if you could come see it. It's a big investment.

FBORGE DEVELOPMENT INC
I am the current owner of the house that Borge Development INC built in 2002. I have several small problems for the house and complained to the Borge company before 10 years warranty was expired (that was about 2009 and 2010), but they ignored my request at that time. Now 10 warranty is expired, and I got a drainage problem that could lead to overflow house when rains hard.  Just couple days ago, I contacted Borge company to get a copy of drainage system layout plan that they used for year 2002, so that I can use as a reference to fix the drainage system.  I also told them that I will spend my own money to fix the drainage, so there is no financial burden for them.   I was told that only owner of the company, Thomas Borge, can answer me the question.  So I was waiting for him to contact me.  I didn't get the call, so I called several times, and company kept excused that he was not in his office.  After several time I called them , a secretary or operator answered that the company doesn't keep the plan since 10 years warranty is expired.  Year 2013 is only a year after the 10 year expiration, and I don't think they erase the archive of those file or hard copy.  At first, a secretary or operator of the company told me that only owner of the company could address the issue I have, then  a secretary or operator answered me that they don't keep the plan after 10 years warranty is expired.  I never had a chance to talk to the owner of the company who can answer my question. They are very irresponsible, non-professional that  they think they can get over after they sold the product. If a product is small things, I wouldn't bother it, but if a product is a house which generally big portion of your wealth, don't  you consider seriously?   If you are looking for a builder, I am not recommend BORGE DEVELOPMENT INC.

AR&R Construction
The design took a while to nail down due to building code complexities (especially setbacks), and Randy stuck with me until we got most of the issues settled. There were a few glitches in communication, but he was smart, easy to talk to, and gave me a very nice bid. In the end I went with another contractor who also had some very good qualities. The choice was difficult, and each contractor brought a slightly different set of strengths to the project. I felt that the other contractor had some ideas and recommendations that anticipated my particular needs a bit better. I know Randy was disappointed that I didn't hire R & R. I expect to have several more remodeling projects over the coming months, and I will definitely contact Randy for those projects if he's available. I have every confidence that R & R will be very competitive, and well worth considering.
