Recent Review: Heard about Lifeshield from a web forum, emailed the sales rep as a referral and the referrer was able to get $150 while I got a free network camera.  The network camera's quality is average at best ... they've since changed the referral program so the new subscriber now gets $100 store credit. Anywho, after emailing the rep with questions and requirements, getting on the phone to do the credit check, I got a kit to try out delivered to me.  I installed the base unit and connected the telephone line and ethernet cable (to internet), associated the GSM unit for the backup cell service, and installed the door/window sensors and motion sensors.  After about a week, I noticed the GSM unit kept losing signal, I emailed tech support and told them about the issue, did some troubleshooting with them which didn't fix the issue, and a replacement GSM unit was send to me.  While that was happening, I noticed the broadband wasn't working ... turns out they had different starter kits: "Home Essentials Kit - Cell Ready" and a "Home Essentials Kit with Broadband" ... I was sent the wrong one.  They replaced that and everything has been fine since. A couple of notes: - I believe the sensor batteries are covered by Lifeshield for the length of the lease.  I had one die at the start of my contracted period, and they just sent a new battery after I emailed support.  The console will tell you which sensor has a dying battery. - I was without electricity for 5.5 days after Sandy hit.  The base and GSM units have backup batteries in them, so my system was still connected for 4 days.  I was on the phone with my friends checking my house 4 days after Sandy hit and I didn't know if the alarm was still working since I couldn't connect to it via the webpage nor app ... it was, about 30 seconds after they opened the basement door, the monitoring service called about the alarm!  So the base was able to keep functioning with the GSM unit!

Recent Review: Kelli was SUPER helpful in explaining their process.  They have NO contract, just a monthly fee that you pay, like your car insurance bill.  You HOPE you never need to use it, but IF you do.....then it is sure nice to have that coverage.  Also, there is NOT a $75.00 service call fee every time you need to have a repair person visit your home.  Just the usual monthly fee, which is based upon your choice of available plans and options that you select when you sign up.  Basically, you only pay for what you need and you are not double, or triple billed for services from an UNknowledgeable or UNskilled service technician at a time you can least afford it.  Their service plans are clearly explained on their web site ((( https://www.completeprotection.net/ ))), and they also CLEARLY explain their limits on replacements on their web site as well.  Keep in mind, they seem to be more REPAIR ORIENTED rather than for REPLACEMENTS and if your item is too old or unworthy of repair, they will pay only a small portion towards a replacement item.  The small amount they do pay towards the replacement if you need it, is listed on the web site.  This helps to keep their fees down as well ! ! !  Another nice feature is that they have a list of repair companies that they will give you, so you can call and schedule your own repair, once you have a Repair Authorization Number from CAP.  The repair companies they suggest are familiar with the CAP process, and will bill CAP directly for the work.  Now if you have a favorite service provider that you prefer to use, that is no problem.  If that provider is unfamiliar with billing CAP, you can pay the provider yourself and CAP reimburses you within 10 to 14 days from the time they receive your bill.  (((Just remember to get the Repair Authorization Number from CAP BEFORE having your work done.)))  Also nice, is if you have an older home, they don't seem to have all the exclusions we read about from the other companies.       We have a home in Henderson, Nevada that we plan to rent out this fall.  We want the tenants to have reliable and trustworthy service folks available to them if they need someone.  We have read the horror stories on Angie's List, for some of the other Home Warranty options out there and some of the service providers as well.  (((You know the ones......service provider is called and MAYBE shows up when expected, or maybe not.  MAYBE they fix the problem for the $75.00 service call fee, maybe not.  MAYBE the problem is fixed this week, next week, or maybe not at all.))) Also, even though our home is new, we want to limit our financial exposure for any HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Appliance problems.  We live out of state, but still want our tenants to get quality service when necessary.  For us anyway, the choice is clear.  Complete Appliance Repair.   Oh yeah, and Angie's List of course !! Craig Etling, the owner of DC Electrical and assist came to my house, on time and immediately started work on sub panel. My home was built in 1964, so extra care had to be taken to ensure that original panel was not disturbed.  They worked well together to make sure job was correctly done.  We had the surge protector also added so that if there is a surge, everything (all outlets) are protected and this comes with its own guarantee. Very happy with this provider.

It went great.  Most important, they did what they said they were going to do...such as responding quickly and calling a bit before arrival.  What really impressed me was there was a wiring issue that initially needed about an hour of work.  However, they offered a safe and to code work around that took five minutes.  That's the type of thing that receives my repeat business.

John is a fantastic electrician! He was referred to me and answered the phone on the first ring. He came out to the house to give me an estimate within a couple of hours at the end of his work day, and began the work 2 days later. It was a lot of work and conduit installation...we have a brand new house and needed to wall mount several tvs in several rooms, and we needed electrical work to install a box for our new jacuzzi before the cement was poured. I also wanted an outdoor protected exterior plug for my towel warmer :) John completed all the work within 2 days. He also came out and hooked up our jacuzzi after the cement had cured and the jacuzzi was delivered for no extra charge. He was on time, very neat and professional and a very nice person! His prices are extremely reasonable and his work is top-notch. We are going to have him come out and put in an infrared heating unit in our master bathroom, electrical outdoor plugs for our pond (next spring) and more outlets in the garage. We are very pleased with his work and highly recommend him.

I first called Jim at QRJ Electric because I thought I had lost a breaker after a lightning storm. He came out the following day and examined the breaker only to find I had not reset it correctly. I appreciated his honesty and quick diagnosis. Since he was already onsite, I asked him if he could fix a broken receptacle outside and replace a broken light fixture with a new one that I had been planning to install. He did all of these things willingly, quickly and within the hour so there was no additional charge. I then asked him for an estimate to add outside lighting at the front stairs and in the back yard.   He came back on the appointed day, as scheduled, and was cordial, polite and professional. He performed the installations accurately, paying attention to detail, and worked without stopping until the job was done. I'm very pleased with the results.  I am delighted to have found such a competent, honest, professional, and fairly priced electrician and will not hesitate to call him for my next projects. It is a pleasure to recommend him to others without reservation.

Originally I hired a so called "handyman" to do the work. He charged me $300 and just wired into the existing circuit.  D C Electric showed up on time to bid on the work and explained to me what I needed done to accomplish what I wanted. I accepted their bid a few days later. Craig and Bruce showed up 1/2 hour before their scheduled appointment and started right to work. They tore out all the work my handman had done and started from scratch. They added a circuit to the garage for my three 4 plug gang boxes. Fixed the garage so I could control the lights without shutting off the freezer (the handyman hooked my freezer up to the lights so I had to run the lights to run the freezer). They installed a new circuit with an outside plug beside my garage, and they surge protected my whole house. I thought the price was a bit high, but obviously you get what you pay for. They left the job site clean. Craig explained everything to me. They gaurantee their work for 2 years and the surge protector protects and gaurantees all your electrical, including the appliances. I will call D C Electrical for all my future electrical needs.

The professionals called to let us know they would be at our home within a few minutes. When they arrived they put on shoe covers to protect our floors. They proceeded to ask qualitfying questions and began the work. They were careful not to make a huge mess or break anything. They were very friendly and efficient. They offered us a savings special if we called for addtional work within a certain period of time. Overall. they did a great job.  We had a similar great experience with a Mr. Electric in Fort Collins, CO before we moved, and their good job is the reason I gave this Mr. Electric a chance.

The initial problem was a loss of power to the garage outlets. I called another local electrician and arranged for him to come out and make the necessary repairs. He did not show up, and it turned out he had written down both the address and the phone incorrectly. I next called Craig Etling at D.C. Electrical. Craig listened carefully to my description of the lack of power to the garage outlets, and directed me to reset a GFI breaker in the garage. Main problem solved at no cost using Craig's generous free advice! I also had some other projects that needed attention, so I set up an appointment with Craig for the following day. He and his associate Scott arrived the next morning right on time. They went to work immediately and within an hour had completed all the projects I requested help with. Both Craig and Scott were knowledgeable, sharp, fast, and friendly. We could not have asked for better service. Craig is a great electrician, but he is also a very good businessman. He maintains a website which has a FAQ section. Many small problems can be solved simply by referencing the FAQ's. I would highly recommend Craig and D.C. Electrical. We could not have had a better experience with a contractor. I will definitely call him again next time we need an electrician, and will strongly recommend him to others including Angie's List members. You can hire him with confidence!!

My house was built in 1911. There had been some electrical upgrades over the years, but nothing was done ever to code.  The electrical system was a mix up of old knob and tube and do it yourself electrical patchwork.  I had used D.C. Electrical in the past for a panel upgrade at a rental property some years back. They did such a great job I knew I would go back to them. I contacted D.C. Electrical in April 2014.  The owner Craig Etling was early to the appointment and greeted me with a smile. He did thorough walkthrough of the residence, including every room, the basement, attic and walked around the entire outside perimeter of the house. I explained that the residence would be undergoing extensive renovation over the next nine to ten months including a whole new HVAC and plumbing system. In addition, I explained that I would be managing this renovation project from Virginia, 2500 miles away. He said it would be no problem and we both agreed good communication would be the key. I received a quote a few days later.  I had many detailed questions before the work started and Craig obliged every single one without hesitation.  I sent a deposit the following week. Craig and his team began work a week later starting with a tear out of the old system. Due to the scope of work, the project had to be phased out in weeks and months so other contractors could complete their jobs prior to the finish work of the electrical. Over the next nine months Craig and I were in contact several times a month through email as I updated him on my other contractors progress. The extensive communication worked well as it helped with scheduling each phase of work for both of us. Craig and his team completed the electrical phase December 2014. D.C. Electrical and Craig were great to work with and extremely accommodating to the renovation schedule. Their professionalism and electrical expertise are second to none. I would hire Craig and the D.C. Electrical team again and highly recommend them for any electrical needs. They do first rate work at a fair price.
