Recent Review: Dan and his people were fantastic. This started before the contract was given. Judy Kugle had worked with my husband and me to design the bathroom and choose the materials. In April 2014,  she sought to get contractor bids for us and failed completely. Initially, no one would respond; when they did, their bids were very very high. I joined Angie's List and you sent us the names of 3 possible contractors in the area. Dan Grisa responded immediately and met with Judy at our home. (By this time, we were 500 miles away at our other home at Lake Tahoe.) She was impressed that he had an iPad with him and did the math and bid on the spot. She passed everything electronically on to us. We approved Dan's bid. He and his guys did a beautiful job. As, perhaps, with all construction jobs, there were "oopses" and surprises. Cabinets didn't arrive or were the wrong size. (This was not Dan's fault.) The large mirrors they needed to leave in place extended below the level of the backsplash they were putting in, and there was a "wobble" in the mirrors that made it difficult to create a water-tight seal between the countertops and the backsplash. They figured it out. It took some special effort to fit the waterfall cascade of the countertop to the existing side of the counter and bathtub - they figured it out. They even did a number of extras - including painting light bulb "burn" spots on the ceiling above the counters, which I hadn't asked for. And they cleaned up BEAUTIFULLY. And, when the job was done and they had been paid in full, when we arrived in Palm Springs in early December, we found that there was something wrong with the valve stems in one of the very expensive sink faucets; the hot water faucet was leaking. This has taken several trips by Grisa to seek to change out the valve stems - and work by Judy Kugle to get replacement valve stems from the faucet manufacturer. This is not their job; they did it anyway, well after they could have just walked away. I have recommended them to the property manager of our condo association. We have asked them to bid on fixing and replacing some mirrored doors and some windows. I trust them and like them, and their work is beautiful.

DCarter Contracting
Removing the tub was ok. Breaking out the floor and relocating the fittings was sort of ok, the pipe for the toilet flange to connect was to short, and the shower drain pipe was in the wrong place, which required breaking out some concrete. The shower pan originally installed was substandard, and was replaced with a better one. The replacement window seems ok. The ceiling light was just installed without the promised advance approval, and was unsat. Then the tiling of the shower began. This contractor does not employ professionals for any discipline, including tile work. The shower tile was completed, in a very amateurish way, and this contractor was fired. The first picture below shows how the tile over the place where the shower valve is installed does not allow access to the holes which hold it in place. The second picture shows the uneven installation of tile on the window sill.

The company was only here about 2 hours each visit over over 5 days. First hole was dug next to my house about 3 feet deep and 4 feet wide. It filled up with water. Day 2 another hole was dug at the property line about 60 feet away and it was dry. Day 3 they removed an old shut off from the second hole and filled it in. Monday, day 4, cut the concrete next to house and dug another 3 or 4 foot hole. That took 2.5 hours. They started at 8 AM and left at 10:30. All the time the water was off. Next guy shows up at 12 noon and replaces valves and fixes leak. Here about an hour. Turns water off and leaves. Day 5 concrete company returns, fills hole, packs dirt and returns later in the day to replace concrete. I was told by the owner of the plumbing company, I called him today to compain about the bill, that the concrete company charged them 1000 dollars?
