Recent Review: In a word, great. As a first-time homeowner with substantial knowledge and experience in trades and construction, I was out of my depth with the task of making my in-ground pool go away and getting the old asphalt driveway and garage apron prepared for new concrete. My original plan was to demolish the pool using small tools like cut-off saws, concrete drills, electric hammers, sledge hammers, etc. After draining the pool and spending the better part of a day trying to drill through the pool wall and bottom, I realized that this was NOT the way to go. What I had envisioned as a couple of weekends with a friend to help turned out to be my version of the Pyramids. I found Mr. Killinger through his Craigslist ad and chose him over the three other contractors I found. Mr. Killinger drove over the next day to look at the project. I was taken by his approachable and authentic personality. As he explained the details of how he would attack the job, what the charges would be (different rates for different tasks and implements) I quickly grew to trust him. And I was not disappointed. Mr. Killinger showed up as scheduled the first day... I was VERY NERVOUS as I knew that I was embarking on a commitment for a substantial financial outlay (entire project including concrete). He had the pool, pool apron, and block wall completely demolished and graded over in less than eight hours. He had a hammer attachment for his backhoe that made my pool crumble like a house of cards. I was relieved! Mr. Killinger came back multiple times as I muddled through the task of planning and grading my driveway pour. He recommended some additions to my project that I wouldn't have considered without his input. He probably saved me $10K over the life of the entire project. I did rate him as a 'B' on punctuality, but he made every effort to communicate changes in his schedule as soon as possible. I've worked with many contractors over the years, and Ernie is top-notch. His ability with the machinery and his straight-forward manner left me with little doubt that I was in the best of hands. I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to him for further excavation work nor would I hesitate to recommend him. Mr. Killinger saved my bacon!
