System Pavers
Recent Review: I recently had a paver stone patio installed in my backyard. I am glad I went with System Pavers to do the install. Javier Rodriguez and his crew are the best! As a project manager, Javier handles multiple installs. Regardless of his busy schedule, Javier made sure to be at my backyard every morning to oversee the project and talk to his crew. He would also be there at the end of the day to look at the progress and ensure there weren't any issues during the installation. Javier communicated daily with me and provided a status. In addition, if I had any questions or concerns, Javier was just a phone call away. Javier's crew were just as hardworking. They worked hard to complete the project ahead of schedule. You can imagine the mess when a patio is being installed, from the ground being dug up to the dust created from cutting the paver stones to size. However, at the end of the installation, these guys cleaned up the backyard very well! I would definitely recommend Javier Rodriguez and his crew at System Pavers to anyone who would want a makeover of their home.

Method Paving

Recent Review: Nathan from Method Paving responded very quickly to my request for a quote.  He looked at the area in our back yard where I wanted to install a patio and brought me a written quote for the installation using California pavers.  When my husband and I saw the pavers at a store in person, we decided we didn't like them as much as natural stone.  Nathan had explained that the installation of natural stone vs pavers would be much more labor-intensive and so would be more expensive, but we decided that the expense was worth it. The workers showed up to excavate the area and did a careful job.  A different set of workers laid the stone and did a marvelous job.  They were very careful to fit the stones in place like a puzzle, and use the largest stone possible.  There was a little mix-up on the height of the step from the house to the patio but that was quickly corrected.  We asked Nathan if the workers could pour a small concrete pad on our side yard to use as the floor of a small shed.  They did this the last day for no charge. Nathan was very professional, not a hard sell at all.  His workers did a wonderful job. I highly recommend Method Paving for natural stone work.

JEAN FOGG LANDSCAPE SVC
Recent Review: We were very pleased in the work that Jean and his crew performed. Jean gave us a competitive bid and was available for our time frame. Although our work seemed a lot to us, it was considered small to most contractors. For some it was too small and they were not interested. Jean spent time in going over all aspects of the job, answered questions and even spent time helping pick the pavers. His foreman has been with him for 16 years, I think that says a lot about the type of person and company that he manages. Jean was at the site every morning to check that things were going smoothly. After the job was finished, Jean had his crew do some extra things to really make the yard look nice. This was done without any charge to us, what a nice surprise. I would highly recommend Jean and his entire crew.

Otto Concrete
Business Description: Why Should You Hire Us? There are way too many people out there offering to do concrete work at a good price without a contractor’s license to do so… nor do they have enough insurance to cover you in the event of a mishap. These folks are probably very skilled craftsmen and will probably do a good job. But what happens to you if they somehow mess up? What if they take your money and disappear? What if they get hurt on your property? A licensed, insured contractor won’t come to your home or business with problems like these. Otto Concrete is a licensed CA concrete contractor (License # 925196). We had to jump through a lot of hoops to prove to the state of California that we know what we’re doing. So we have a lot to lose if we don’t do a good job. We also have all the state required insurance policies in place to protect you in case of an accident. We invite you to visit the State of California’s Contractor’s State License Board to verify our standing. If you do decide you’d like to speak with us about your project, remember that estimates are always free and no job is too small. And you’ll be surprised at how much we can do in a short amount of time for a very low price.

Custom Nature
Recent Review: We hired Custom Nature to install a lawn and patio in our back yard.  The project required working within the existing constraints of our yard - a pre-existing concrete patio and arbor, retaining wall and irrigation system.  Leland designed a great layout for the patio and lawn that worked within these constraints and is attractive and much more livable.  During the project we found some of the arbor was rotted out, and he was able not only to fix the issue, but modify the arbor to remove the central posts to give us more living area and open up the yard.  Leland was on-site everyday with a very professional crew, and communicated with us very well, to the point where we felt like the project was collaborative.  This was a major factor for us in choosing a contractor; we wanted someone that would be involved with the project, not just sending out a crew and foreman once the contract was signed. Additionally his pricing was fair and the work was done in a timely manner. The project turned out great.  We feel like the work Custom Nature did added a new room to our home - the patio, lawn and arbor look beautiful - better then we expected.  We highly recommend Custom Nature and will work with Leland again when our next project comes up.

Highland Landscape
Recent Review: My backyard was basically a dirt clod with a few bashed up pieces of old concrete offering the only non-dirt sufraces, so I got an estimate/solution from Lee to create a nice flat space ajacent to the back door and running along the side of the house to the side gate. I also requested a quote for an arbor to add some shade to the yard. Lee's team was on site within a week of my accepting the quote. The job went great, faster than I expected. The pavers were put down in a pattern that was random enough to make it look less "manufactured". The yard had a bit of a slope to it, so they leveled that out nicely to have just a little bit of a tilt to it for good drainage, but not enough to be noticable. Arbor was built out of heavy redwood timber, attached to the house. Final result looks terrific (now I just have to get cracking on the rest of the yard!). Lee's team worked fast, showed up on time, and kept on schedule. They even handled my nutty neighbors well when approached by them about what materials they were using. Project came in at estimate and was completed sooner than I expected. The yard was cleaner when they left than when they started. I'll probably have Lee come back once we figure out what we're going to work on next.

DSelect Pavers
This was an offer for "$1,499 for Paver Stone Patio, Driveway or Walkway Delivered and Professionally Installed." I sent a proposed completion timeline which he said he could meet. Then over the next 2.5 weeks there was a lot of nothing. (About 1 week between contacts and some phone tag, which is understandable because I was hard to reach, as well.) However, 5 days before the date the job was supposed to be completed, Luis called and said to check the fine print of the deal, that this was for jobs at least 300sq feet. So the offer was $1500 for 100 sq feet, but for him to honor that I have to get 300sq feet of work done (3 times the offer that I paid for)...then, I pay the difference for the 200 extra square feet required to meet the deal requirements. So, first, there is no 100sq foot patio deal, it's some sort of "discount" on a 300 square foot paver project. Second and more importantly, he said that the extra 200sq feet that must be included, would cost $25 per square foot! I don't see a deal here. Third, the 'fine print' clearly states that for the price I paid I WOULD get a 100sq foot patio.  Here's the detailed description:  Description: Here's the Deal: $1,499 for a paver stone patio, driveway, or walkway delivered and installed (multiple material options available below) Deal valid for up to 100 square feet; offer is valid for jobs with 300 square feet or more; extra square footage can also be installed for an additional fee Offer can be applied to larger jobs Includes demolition Choice of select pavers from Belgard; some paver choices may require an additional feeIncludes consultation for your project Lifetime warranty on labor and materials Includes materials, labor, and professional installation for your new 100 square feet patio in stone of choice The last line is what upsets me. The thing is, I DO need other work done, apprx 1000 square ft of work, but this experience and these term will have me go elsewhere. On a sidenote, Luis seemed nice enough, he seemed polite and toward the end he apologized for the misunderstanding. Hopefully Angie's List will update the deal to what it really is.

DOtto Concrete
I called Maki as the work they did and the pricing from other reviewers seemed fair. The day they were supposed to come for the estimate, they were a no-show with no call to let me know. I followed up and he sent Sam Alusa. I negotiated a package of work and felt good about what was to be done. Throughout the project Sam kept telling me to 'trust him', as I continued to pay as he went. It was after the project was finished that I found out you don't have to pay more than a $1000 deposit for a contractor in the State of CA. This group was sloppy and left my project with several unfinished issues. There were 2 large cracks in my walkways within a week. Another long crack in the back patio. He said he guaranteed his work for a year and would fix everything. He has not fixed anything. My front porch, while it could have been cute, was left with cement marks all over the pavers because they didn't clean up. I can't fix that. The concrete is also dirty and won't clean off. They were sloppy. They took away most of the cement from my yard, but since they finished, I am constantly finding cement that was buried in various parts of my yard as well as garbage they left behind. They also buried the grass they pulled up instead of hauling it away. All of this was found as I was doing other projects. They poured a cement border around my yard which is crumbling away. They didn't use any sort of reinforcement in the cement for either the border or the patio, saying it wasn't a good idea in the event it needed to be fixed...well, a lot of good that did since they won't come back to fix it. The concrete that was poured for my patio slopes to the house, which will result in water in the house if I don't fix it. At the least I will spend another 4-5000 for a covered overhang as a possible fix. He charged me $1100 for sprinkler supplies to redo my system and may have spent $100. And I learned he didn't use anything that was new. The unit he used to connect the water to my pipes didn't have a pressure valve to prevent water from coming in the house if there was a problem. The piece he used was not up to code. I have already paid out $2000 to other contractors to repair the issues with my sprinklers and replace sod due to the sprinkler problems. Turns out this Sam guy didn't even give me his number, he gave me one of his workers numbers so I can't get in touch with him. I called Maki on 2 occasions asking to get this guy back to fix my work and never heard back. Maki states this wasn't his project, but I went through Angie's list for his services, not someone else's and I wasn't told that he sent it to another company who I now cannot locate. Maki, you need take ownership for this project and come back to fix it!

CJPM LANDSCAPE
Final product was good, work crew lead by Alfredo were professional and did a good job. We were lead to believe that project manager, Bob would be on site everyday supervising the project. He was there the first day and came the last day to get payment, other than that was a salesman only. Communication with Bob was non-existent, sent him a list of plants prior to the project, he never ordered the plants and then wanted more money to come back "later" to plant them since they were not delivered prior to the end of the job. Scheduled a meeting with him, he never showed up, "took the day off". The day prior to the job left voice mail and wanted $1800 more than estimate since "price of pavers went up". Told nursery didn't matter what they charged us for the plants since we wouldn't know otherwise. When I called Bob about a irrigation leak, replied it was Impossible - then tried to blame us for the broken pipe. Alfredo fixed it with no complaints.
