Recent Review: Donovan and his crew were responsive, professional and caring. While the project took a little detour when we suffered some unrelated water damage, it was completed in a timely manner with quality workmanship. He really treats you like family, making sure to keep you up to date on the project. After our water damage incident, he even dispatched a crew immediately to help with the cleanup, which provided a level of peace of mind that is invaluable during such a stressful time. Even though some of the parts that the job required seemed to take forever to arrive (my fault for choosing them!), he did his best to get everything completed in short order. He and his staff are wonderful.

Recent Review: After my first visit to the show room, where the receptionist gave friendly, courteous and professional help, I walked out with all the brochures and information I needed to decide what I wanted. My next visit I scheduled for the installers to measure things up, which they did a few days later. The doors took about a month to arrive and the installers took two days to finish the job. After I painted the doors I couldn't be more pleased; a solid "A" performance. I replaced the doors for soundproofing but I was so pleased with the appearance of the paneled doors that several months later I hired Classic Installation to replace my sliding closet doors with decorative paneled doors. The installer for this job was not one of the two installers of the previous job. I didn't ask, but my impression was that he was new on the job. As before, I agreed to paint the doors myself. The installer came, I believe, on a Friday and hung the doors. Monday he'd return to finish up. Over the weekend I painted the doors. After I finished, I noticed that one of the set of doors were hung backward. Since I painted the outside to match the room and the inside white, I had to repaint the doors after he rehung the doors correctly. Argh! About a week after the job was done, I noticed that the door pulls, which are inset into 2 1/4" holes (so they can't be drilled over), on one set of sliding doors were a bit cockeyed. The error amounts to only about one fourth of an inch but, like an either-or optical illusion where once one finally manages to see the alternate image, one can never see the picture without seeing this alternate image, once I noticed the offset, I couldn't help but see it always. Other than this glitch, the doors are just fine and add much to my home's interior beauty. I should've brought this problem to the attention of Classic Installation to give this firm a chance to respond. Since I didn't, I'll give Classic Installation the benefit of the doubt with a grade of "A-" rather than a "B+" for the overall performance for the two jobs.

ABROTHERS GLASS CO
My duplex neighbor had Brothers' Glass replace her windows with double pane windows and recommended Brothers'. Brothers' gave me a brochure and after I decided on the job and got approval from my homeowners' Assn., Brothers' responded promptly and finished the job in one full day. The first hitch was that the factory included the wrong key for the sliding door so I had to wait for the factory to send the right key before I could lock the door from the outside. When the winter rains came, there was standing water in the door track so I called Brothers'. Brothers' said this situation wasn't normal and redrilled the weep holes to fix the problem. The problem remained so Brothers' came again and did more work on the weep holes and fixed the problem. A year later, there was leaking around patio (sliding) door and patio window. Brothers' recaulked the windows. Since this leakage only occurred after unusual heavy blustery rains, It wasn't until the following winter that I found that the leaks persisted. Brothers' came and completely recaulked both units. Again, it wasn't until the following winter that a severe storm revealed that the leaks still persisted. Brothers again sent someone over who said that the problem might be with cracks in the wall. I was not a happy camper. I hired a home inspector to diagnose the problem. When I related my frustrating experience with Brothers' inability to solve the problem, the inspector told me that he also blamed the wall cracks and commended Brothers' for it's patience and persistence. My homeowners' Assn repaired the wall with polymer paint and I haven't had a leak since. Earlier this year, the door window fogged up. Brothers' said that the only solution was replacement. Brothers charged me $170 for labor and the factory paid for the pane as it was still under warranty. I fear that if I had written this review before consulting with the home inspector, I would've unfairly blamed Brother's for faulty installation when the fault lay with the wall cracks.  As it was, Brothers' showed both patience and determination in its effort to get the job done right.

BAgoura Sash & Door Inc
Two months after installation, it rained. Rainwater started running from the top inside of the first sliding door down the glass into the carpet. I examined the attic; it was bone dry. The next day I had a roof man put a Spanish tile on that was left loosely askew by the installer. A few months later, it rained a second time with the same water intrusion. I took photos of the incomplete glueing and caulking job on the window I suspected causing the leak which was above the lower leaking window. I sent photos of the situation to Agoura Sash & Door (ASD), and made many calls, over a long period of time, to the sales person, installer, and ASD's customer service and finally the two owners: Don & Kerry Smith. ASD's management (and owners) said the installer could not come to look at, and fix the problem, because the installer no longer worked for ASD--neither did the sales person. The sales person did help a little by sending a handyman who caulked the suspected window but the gap was so wide the silicone did not stay in position. He said he would be back to finish--but never returned. NO ONE FROM AGOURA SASH & DOOR EVER CAME TO LOOK AT, OR TRY TO FIX, THE INSTALLATION. The last thing I heard from Don Smith of ASD was when he said to me, "Too bad you did not call earlier, I was up in your area just last week playing golf, I could have stopped by." The very last thing I heard was on Jan 6, 2015 from Kerry Smith of ASD when she said to me, "Don spoke to you in December and determined (over the phone) that the roof area at the bottom of this window is not flashed to the building penetration properly.....so it probably leaked before this window install". She further stated that "the area at the bottom of the window should be fixed by a roofing contractor." I showed the window area to two roofing contractors who said they would love to do roofing work anywhere, but the suspected window needs to be installed correctly by a window installer. REPEAT: NO ONE FROM AGOURA SASH & DOOR EVER CAME TO LOOK AT, OR TRY TO FIX, THE INSTALLATION--ANY PART OF IT. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE of March 6, 2015; SOMEONE CAME FROM AGOURA SASH & DOOR!!! I received a concerned call from Dan Smith of ASD on Feb 27, 2015; Dan Smith was not involved in the above history, that was Don Smith. Dan said he wanted to send a knowledgeable man to assess the problem and rectify as soon as possible--and that is exactly what he did. The window installing expert arrived on March 6, 2015 and he immediately recommended a solution, which I accepted, and he quickly completed. I am comfortable that the flashing he installed, and the urethane caulking he applied, will prevent future leaks. He then, very efficiently, replaced the damaged wood window trim, and adjusted the sliding door latch so it can be opened by my spouse. I am happy that Dan sent Charlie--a knowledgeable, skilled, and pleasant window expert that was obviously a problem solver--and he brought all the right tools and supplies with him--no running to Home Depot for things he forgot. Charlie is a working man that ASD can be proud to assign to their window and door customers. More importantly Dan Smith made this customer happy with his "concern for the customer" which I really appreciated, and future customers will too. I am changing my rating above from "D" to "B" --not an "A" because of the previous history mentioned earlier (above) that took so long to rectify. Note: The salesman and installer for my installation are no longer employed by ASD.

ASholes Overhead Door Inc
We wanted a panel with windows for our segmented garage door to let in some natural light.  (There were none in the 10 year old house we'd just purchased.) Impressively, during the inspection before we bought the house, the inspector noted that the garage door was installed well and moved with less resistance than many newly-installed doors (impressive). We contacted Sholes about adding a window panel to our garage door since they included a sticker on the inside of the door (another good sign of a reputable company -- leaving behind contact info on things they've installed). They let us know that they brand no longer shipped to the West Coast and weren't sure they could get parts. However they looked into it and found that they could get the parts (though they would be more expensive since they had to special order -- about which Sholes was apologetic).  It was still cheaper than installing a completely new door with window panels, we decided to go ahead and purchase the new panel and have Sholes install it. They let us know that it would be a few weeks before they received the new panel.  Once it arrived, they came out and installed it in a single day, as promised. The new panel is installed perfectly, matches exactly with the existing panels, and the door works exactly as it did before.  They advised me to keep the old panel in case another gets dinged or otherwise damaged.  They even threw in for free some frame inserts for the windows (since they had some extras, and, as I mentioned previously, that brand doesn't distribute out here any longer).   Couldn't speak more highly of this local, family-owned business.  Thanks again, Sholes!  We'll definitely work with you again if we ever need garage door work -- and will recommend you to anyone else who does too.
