Recent Review: We started demo work in November, 2015 and finished the renovations of our kitchen and bathroom in March, 2016.  Due to the holidays and a few other set backs, the job took a little longer than we expected but we are very happy with the way it turned out.  We had some cabinetry work done to raise our microwave and a new piece of oak wood replaced the existing doors over the microwave.  It took several attempts to get the wood stain to match the existing 20+ year old cabinets but Steve found the right person to match the cabinets and we were very impressed in his attention to detail.  In our family, we are currently in the process of remodeling two other homes using Osler Construction. Steve is doing the same excellent job and we highly recommend him.

Recent Review: A contractor recommended I check out Ferguson's which is located near the airport and not in an obvious location. When I first walked in and browsed through their extensive showroom I was shocked at the prices of the items on display. I knew I couldn't afford to complete my remodel with the prices I was seeing. But I had made an appointment to see a sales consultant - Carol Jean - so I met her and explained that the prices were beyond my budget. Fortunately I had done a lot of pricing research, on-line, Sears, Home Depot, Best Buy, Idler's, etc so I had an idea of what I wanted and approximately what I could spend for each item. I even had my contractor's budget for the kitchen items which was higher than I wanted to spend but he assured me that I would have to spend that much to get a decent result. Carol reassured me that the prices on display were not the only available options and she 'rolled up her sleeves' and went through her catalogs and worked her computer magic and printed the specs for most of the items I needed and wanted at less than my contractor's budget. I took the details home to see if everything would work for him, and they would, so I was on my way back a few days later to order everything, when I stopped at Idler's due to a sale. There I found another frig and stove that I liked which cost less than my original choice at Ferguson's. I shared the info with Carol and she was able to match the items and cost so I ordered everything that day and the total was still $2000 less than my original budget. I was very pleased When it was time to order fixtures for the bathroom I did my research then went to Carol and she beat even the Home Depot price for the toilets I wanted (which would have been a special order at HD). For over 3 months I worked with Carol as I continued through our remodel and I have never been so satisfied for such major purchases ever. There was no problem with anything - nothing came broken or damaged, she was always responsive to my calls, kept me apprised of the status of certain items, and was so easy to work with. I would recommend the company, and her particularly, very highly. Buying almost everything I needed from one place, rather than 10 different websites, companies, or stores was such a convenience and made it easier to keep track of everything, and only one call to ask questions, rather than several, and of course I saved money.

FHandyman Connection
Handyman was expected at 9:00. He called at 9:15 to change time to 2:00 (stated he hadn't received the paperwork until that morning, appointment made 5 days prior). He arrived at 2:45 looking like a bum and smelling of smoke. No uniform or identification. He was in an old car with his dog. Saw what needed to be done & said it would be $200 and he could do it 3 DAYS LATER! I had been told it would be done when he arrived. He stated he didn't have any tools with him and his son wasn't able to come help BUT he offered to put up my light 'off the books because he wasn't an electrician'. He was late, overpriced, didn't have equipment, dirty & smelled of smoke & offering to do work illegally. I pointedly told him to leave NOW (my husband had come home) and called his employer. I called Home Depot, got a referral, called, and a PROFESSIONAL arrived 2 days later on time, did job on his own in 20 minutes for $70.00. I would never, ever allow Handyman Connection in my home again.

FSERVPRO
First problem what to do about the water, the company ripped up the flooring, stripped the padding, then turned on the blowers to dry out the carpets. Only after we had vacuumed up all the standing water with a shop vacuum. ServPro should have informed us that we'd need to stay in a hotel, while the work was performed. We were in the house during all the work, which was a big mistake! The drywall was taken off only half way up the walls, they also removed the insulation. But, they didn't install replacement insulation. We live in a Condo, and now we have to hear everything our neighbors say and do as if we were right there! The drywall they installed was 1/2-inch drywall, we needed 1/2-inch for the walls as well as 3/4-inch for the ceilings damaged by the water. The 3/4-inch wasn't installed, just the 1/2-inch drywall everywhere. Never mind that the assessment stated that the bathroom needed to be replaced, that was work ServPro claimed was done, but it wasn't! We were told by the building inspector that the stairs would need to be rebuilt, ServPro told my mother: "that would add to her bill, which was going to be another $15,000 out-of-pocket." The insurance carrier, later notified my mother that the contractor should've included the building inspectors comments in our damage assessment. What really set my mother over the edge was that ServPro contacted our insurance carrier directly and informed them that ServPro would be installing the new flooring to be put into the house, never mind that ServPro had my mother pay for the same thing. What is the results of the work performed? We have a house that is colder and draftier in the winter, hotter in the summer. We've had to have the house treated for mold, especially in the bathroom. Mom would love to have the rest of the house rebuilt, but as a result of our experiences with ServPro, Mom is less inclined to trust anyone.
