AValley Carpet Cleaning
They did an excellent job cleaning my floors.  I highly recommend Valley to clean your stone, tile, and grout.  Showed up on time, very nice and hard working individuals.

BSky Blue Restorations
I purchased the Angie's List deal with Blue Sky Restoration $99 for Natural Stone or Tile and Grout Cleaning AND Sealing!  It was pretty easy to get an appointment and they came on time as scheduled.  I asked them to clean the natural stone tile in 2 bathrooms and was hoping that they could remove the hard water deposits on the tile.  They used an industrial cleaning soap, but it still was not strong enough to remove the hard water deposits even after they did some vigorous scrubbing...I think their soap was too mild, but that's all they had.  They spent about 2 hours on the 2 bathrooms and cleaned up after themselves.  So overall, they gave it a good through scrubbing and cleaning, but the hard water stains were still there.  I give them a C+ for effectiveness, an A for effort and an overall grade of B.

ACorey Tile & Stone
We hired Josh Corey to build us a shower and tile our bathroom floor. Our old shower sprung a leak in the shower pan and we ended up re-doing the entire bathroom. We opted for a shower with travertine walls, a glass accent strip and natural stone floor. Our new shower is large - almost 10' x 3.5'. I'm not going to get into what my wife and I plan to do in such a large shower...that information would almost certainly be promptly removed by Angie's Lists' moderators. We are extremely pleased with Josh's work: Josh takes pride in his work. It was important to Josh that everything be done correctly. He builds showers with full concrete walls and hot mopped pans. The end result is solid and I have a lot of confidence that it will stand the test of time. Josh takes the time to make sure the shower looks as perfect as possible. He carefully strategized the tile layout so that the most visible walls would have the maximum amount of full tiles and the minimum amount of small awkward cuts. His grout lines looked tight, clean and consistent. Everything that is supposed to be square, straight, level or vertical is precise. His attention to detail is impeccable. We have several places where our intricate glass accent strip wraps around corners onto an area with a short span (like a window sill or where the shower tile meets the bathroom wall). He took the time to cut dozens of tiny pieces of accent glass to make this all look perfect. The entire operation consists of Josh and his assistant Derrick. They were both friendly and pleasant people to have working in our house. They did a great job of keeping the house clean. The job involved our master bathroom which required them to constantly walk across our master bedroom. This kind of work entails an inherent amount of dust and mess, but they managed it well. I met with 3 tilers before hiring Josh. Josh's price was competitive and he did not deviate from his quoted price. In hind site, after seeing the work he put into our bathroom, I feel like I received excellent value. The end result is spectacular and we feel like we get to shower in an amazing work of art that Josh created for us. Thank you Josh!

Scheduling was fine, I called and they were able to get me an appointment within the time frame I wanted. I really liked the way my natural stone floor looked after the service and how it cleans up. He suggested other services but did not put any pressure on me to purchase the additional work. I will be using them in the future for the same service.

ADecor Home Builders Inc
I interviewed three different contractors for this job. Decor Home was by far the most professional. They gave me an estimate that I could work with and they explained all of the costs ahead of time. They created a budget for me to work with and how I could stay within that budget. They worked within my time frame and schedule and were very flexible. When they came to my house to perform the job the contractor and his crew arrived perfectly on time. They were very neat in their preparation work and blocked off their work area from the rest of the house. Demolition all took one day. On the next day they started to install the floors, which came out beautiful. The cabinets were all pre-ordered and pre-measured so that they would fit perfectly in their installation. Everything went according to clockwork. The contractor and his crew never wasted any time. They went in a certain order and made sure that everything was done before they moved on to the next step. They finished the job on time and on schedule within 15 days. Yossi, our contractor, was amazing and a perfectionist. I would highly recommend him, and I can't wait to start on my master bathroom next.

APerry Floor Systems Inc.
I was very happy with them because they were really good. They did a marvelous job. They cleaned up so I did not have to clean anything up when they left; they vacuumed the countertops and there was no mess. They did what they said they were going to do. They did a great job and their workmanship was great as well; it was a tedious job. I just had my kitchen cabinets redone and I have a desk in dark cherry wood. The stone is really natural and really white so they had to careful not to scratch anything. They were really careful about how they prepped it and cleaned it up.

DTompkins Flooring
I recently concluded a challenging, and mostly negative experience with Tompkins Flooring. At the onset, I was looking forward to a professional flooring installation, and then writing a great review about this company. Then came integrity issues, numerous mistakes, work promised but not performed, reluctant workers cutting corners - you name it. They told me that after my job, they fired my carpet installer. I'm not sure they fired the right person(s), because what others did regarding the tile job was far more egregious. For example, I had several small rooms converted from carpet to tile. I specifically requested and added to the contract that baseboards be removed and replaced; baseboards were to sit on top of the tiles, not next to them. The evidence proves they failed to do so. As soon as I discovered their error, I brought the contract to their attention. A truly professional company with a passion for integrity, excellence, and customer satisfaction would have acknowledged their mistake and fixed it. Tompkins Flooring chose not to. They chose to defy the contract, as though contract language was irrelevant. They told me their tile people don't do baseboards - only their carpet people do them (actually, one of their tile workers did remove one baseboard - he promptly broke it in half). In their eyes, adding plenty of grout where the tile doesn't horizontally reach the baseboard looks fine. They're wrong. Their results look like the mediocre homeowner DIY (Do-It-Yourself) job I was paying to avoid. Then came the breakfast nook tile flooring that extended 2" into my den. Why? Was it laziness (fewer cuts) or mis-measurement? They argued with me, and said don't worry, once I put the furniture back, no one will notice it. Really? I had no idea Tompkins Flooring does such shoddy and unprofessional work. They offered to hand cut 2" off the 8 feet of tile that borders the carpet, but that would have left me with 16x18 tiles in an area that should be 18x18. And most likely would have created an uneven border. The correct way to fix their mistake would have involved pulling up all tiles in the kitchen and breakfast nook, and starting from the beginning by cutting 2" off the first row of tiles along an opposite wall. Almost every day, I was confronted with problems or issues that would likely have never occurred with seasoned professionals. For example, on Day One, I requested that the tile veins be laid parallel to one another. The very next day, I audited their work and discovered two tiles that were not. Polished tiles were to be installed in the entryway; non-polished everywhere else. Upon arrival on Day One, the crew didn't think to put tile types into separate stacks. Apparently the Day Two installer didn't know the difference in tiles (the same worker who broke the baseboard as noted above). He erroneously and randomly installed 7 polished tiles in my breakfast nook. So, due to a lack of training and simple procedures, the crew incurred significant rework on Day Three. And then there were the behavioral issues. For example, on the tile crew's final day, I was kind enough to let the crew borrow my shop vacuum (why did they come to my house so unprepared?). I even let the crew leader's wife use my restroom. Yet when it came time to seal the tiles, the crew leader vehemently complained that he did not want to move my desk, refrigerator, and washer/dryer to seal those tiles - he just wanted to seal the visible tiles. I spoke with my sales person, who then phoned the crew leader. By the time the crew leader was done yelling at my sales person over the phone, he could have been done. My philosophy is this: if you've decided you can't behave professionally, and can't do the job correctly without being constantly forced by adult supervision, then get out of my house. I have no use for you and your short-cuts, or your company. Let me call in a real professional to do the job. The carpeting job had its own issues. For example, the sales person promised that the carpet installer would fix squeaky floors upstairs. I was elated. But less than an hour into the job, the carpet installer defiantly said no, he does not do that. I called the sale rep, who then called the installer, and now the installer agreed to fix squeaks. However, he now said he didn't have any screws. OK, I called his bluff. I went out to my garage, and got him a box of drywall screws. I later discovered he had his own screws all along. And yes, there were more surprises and issues from him. How can a homeowner possibly trust and respect a company like this? When you visit Tompkins Flooring, look at the layer of shielding on the pink, upgraded padding sample (if it's still there), and listen to them convince you that you are getting that same, exact padding to put under your carpet. Then compare it with the actual padding they install in your home. The shield layer is completely different (almost non-existent). The store sample is a complete misrepresentation. I had a similar issue with the color of floor tiles. Yes, we all know tile colors vary from lot to lot, but my photographs confirm that their store sample wasn't even close to what they actually installed. If they had been attentive, they would have caught this and brought it to my attention prior to installation. It's clear to me that they really didn't care. One of their competitors informed me that they pull samples from the lot to be installed, and have the customer confirm the tile choice prior to sending it out with a crew to install it. This mitigates surprises, and is a great way to build customer satisfaction. The pattern that emerged portrays a culture of mediocrity and lack of professionalism. As I brought issues to their attention, the sales group made excuses and claimed that this is not who they really are. They're wrong. Their behaviors and work output reveal exactly who they are. Fortunately it's not all negative. The carpet job looks very good. I would categorize a number of their employees as solid professionals who excel at what they're doing, and care about customer satisfaction. And near the end of the process, they did make a few token gestures to try and appease me. But they fell way short. My baseboard areas are still all wrong (except for one), and every day that's all I see. Along with an extra 2" of tile extending into my den. And the left edge tile step rise that now doesn't match the right edge ... Dealing with mistakes and immature behaviors was one thing. But I cannot accept their deliberate defiance of our contract - specifically, the failure to R&R baseboards as specified in the contract. I trusted Tompkins Flooring. When a company fails to honor its contract - especially after being advised of its error - it exposes flaws in its core value system. Customers suffer, employees suffer. It's a lose/lose situation. Why choose to create such a disgraceful environment? I was told that the group handling my project is relatively new to the company. They are in need of training and development to become true professionals. If words like integrity, excellence, and customer satisfaction mean anything to you, I encourage you to shop elsewhere for your flooring needs. Don't let them fool you (like they did me) into thinking they will honor your contract. This review is a consequence of their decisions. The professional outcome I was promised failed to materialize, and has left me extremely angry and disappointed. Visitors to my home are now receiving a lesson in tile floors and baseboards, and how to distinguish mediocre from professional results. The lesson also includes tips on strategically placing furniture, to hide those flooring short-cuts Tompkins Flooring hopes you don't catch. So, can anyone recommend an honest, responsible, and professional flooring company who will install flooring as the customer and contract specify? A company that successfully drives customer satisfaction by achieving the professional results the customer requested and paid for?

ARekdahl Tile & Stone
Rekdahl Tile & Stone performed a beautiful job of installing a natural stone backsplash in our kitchen.  The results show pride of workmanship.  Mitch, the owner, gave us a $750 bid for the job and that is exactly what we were charged.  The price was very reasonable because our kitchen area is fairly large and there was a good deal of cutting and fitting required to line-up the 2? by 2? tiles with the cabinets and corners. He cut and laid the tile in one day, and grouted it the next day.  He also installed a line of tile to improve the appearance of a new shower that ReBath had installed the week before (We do not recommend ReBath).  Mitch provided helpful suggestions for what tile to use to line the backsplash and create a stone shelf for the window.  He has excellent work habits, showing up on time, working steady, cleaning-up after completing the project.  [We purchased the tile from Home Depo]

AFreitag Construction
Michael and crew were great! Freitag construction was brought in as a sub-contractor to face a garden wall, when we were having our pool re-surfaced. I was so impressed with the crew's work that I asked Michael to bid on finishing a courtyard and a pool change area. Of three quotes that I received, Michael was competitively priced, comprehensive and clear where the cost was allocated and where extras might lie. Michael had a sub-contractor come in to do carpentry while his own crew completed stone work. All crew were professional and skilled. I've dealt with many contractors; Michael was excellent in only requesting payment commensurate with work completed. His crew was efficient, the entire project was completed ahead of schedule - Michael will under-promise and over-deliver. We are thrilled with the work completed. We are enjoying our courtyard and "Frietag" fireplace. We could not be happier with the results.

The representative arrived at my house on time.  He started cleaning my floor and shower immediately.  My grout looks great.  It looks like it looked when we first installed the floor and shower.  I love my floor!

Recent Review: This was a major remodel project.  I wanted a contractor to oversee all aspects, work with me on the design, stay on top of the job, do professional grade work, and show up every day, all at a fair price.  I got that with Horizon.  You can go with a cheaper contractor but I doubt you will get all of these qualities.  Mark spent a lot of time with my wife and I selecting cabinets, granite countertops, and flooring making design suggestions.  He also made recommendations as the job progressed.  Enna was in contact with me daily and was a pleasure to deal with.  The job started the day they said it would and ended on time.  I checked the work done daily.  If there was every an issue or I was not happy for some reason it was corrected without discussion.  Horizon even did some upgrades to improve the look of the job and did not charge for it.  They did not charge any large up front fees instead I paid as each aspect of the job was started and completed.  Mark did a final inspection at the end sending some workers back to do minor touch ups.  I would highly recommend Horizon.

Recent Review: They did an absolutely fabulous job.   I would happily use them again.    The workman were both punctual, took extra effort to clean up and prepare both the interior and exterior of the house in painting.   We went through  a remodeling at the same time of our tile floors and carpets and they took extra effort to work with us as timing and around the other contractors.   I cant thank the paint team enough for all their time, extra effort, and workmanship. regards mike

Recent Review: Olde Tyme Floor Co. did a wonderful job redoing our hardwood floors. We bought an older house that had existing hardwood floors but the additions didn't have wood. Olde Tyme Floor Co. had to level the area that had sub flooring and feather in the new wood to match the existing floor. It looks fantastic, no one can tell where the old floor ended and where the new floor started. Scott was very professional, explaining the entire process to us, if we had any questions he was always available. The quality of workmanship can't be beat. The crew were professional, courteous, and cleaned up each night after they finished. When it came time to choosing the floor color they found out what colors we liked and then laid out several color swatches on the floor for us to select from; their input was extremely helpful. We are so pleased with the way the floors came out, everyone that comes over comments on how beautiful the floors are first thing. There is a real love for what they do and our floors definitely reflect it. Beautiful floors make the house and now ours looks like a million bucks.

Recent Review: James was prompt and well organized. Since we had visitors coming, he outlined a strategy to complete the entire job in two days by focusing on one section of the floor at one time. The work included a large pantry, powder room and laundry room as well as a vast expanse or kitchen, family room and entry hallway. He even moved the refrigerator to clean and color seal that part of the floor. He helped -- well, he did most of the heavy lifting -- move furniture out of the way., and move it back. James was respectful and careful with all the furnishings, such as gathering up the draperies to keep them clean. He explained each step in the process. James was focused on the task and cleaned everything thoroughly. The grout is now all the same color in the entire space and the floors gleam. The floor has never looked this good, even when it was new.
