Recent Review: Carl Smith, owner of Acra, arrived on time with contract in hand. He brought a wonderful employee, "Stan," who asked us a few questions regarding our "vision" of the kitchen tiling project, and almost immediately began installing the tile. He is a true artist. We chose 4" sq. "Bone" tile and worked in 1" squares (cut into 4" squares) for color. The 1" squares were a beautiful combination of opalescent, iridescent colors that complimented the very busy, yet boring, existing counter-tops. We weren't sure what pattern we wanted, or how to work the colors into the bone baseline. But Stan immediately had a very unique and artful idea which turned out to be exquisite. He is an artist at heart with a wonderful capability to see the end result. We were able to simply let him "do his thing" and it turned out beautifully. He needs absolutely no supervision, and when he has a question regarding the project, he asks prior to "doing", which showed us a great deal of respect. He was/is an excellent worker, and should absolutely be paid highly for the quality of his work, his work ethic, and his natural ability as an artist . He performed all our work; it was extremely pleasant to deal with only one person, especially Stan, who is very professional, polite, hard working, and blessed with a natural, fabulous artful insight. He appreciates a "finished" look and went above and beyond the norm one usually finds in a contractor's employee. We are so very, very happy with his work; he is a sheer delight. To save some money we moved all our furnishings and prepped areas for Stan. The entire job took about a week. Communication with Acra was good and Carl Smith was very attentive to detail. He compromised on price in more than one area, which really helped us out. We advise potential clients to carefully read the estimate. It was extremely detailed, down to pennies, and in some cases very confusing. However, Carl explained everything to our satisfaction. We had plans to build a garage over the carport, but time, money and health constraints prevented us from following through. We had already paid Acra 50% down, so Carl wrote a check back to us for the balance and delivered it post haste without hassle. We signed a prepared release which we welcomed, having been committed to the garage addition. The entire staff was very easy to work with and seemed to genuinely appreciate that we had recently lost our father and were (and are) still in the grieving process. We must add that we've never seen a bid or an estimate carried all the way down to cents - literally pennies. Most contractors we've ever dealt with gave one price for the entire job. Carl was willing to "round down" some dollars which helped us immensely, and showed us he was willing to work with us to make our situation easier, especially in a time of great emotional stress. All in all, Acra was a very good match for us, our needs, and our financial situation.
