Recent Review: We called Air Design Systems to put fresh eyes on a plumbing problem that another company couldn’t locate. The problem sounded like a pipe had loosened within a wall and would radiate a bumping noise (thud) each time we would turn off water or flush a toilet. Our first attempt to resolve this with another company resulted in 3 different holes cut into the drywall, without finding the problem. Air Design’s plumber quickly focused in on the shower valve as a possible problem. (Note: The first plumbing company also identified the valve as a possible problem but only after cutting into the drywall. Also, the first plumber couldn't get the faucet open to check the valve so he proposed replacing it and estimated the cost $430.) Air Design's plumber was successful at opening the faucet, removed the old valve and determined it was bad. He installed a new valve kit and the noise was gone. Total serivce call-$145. He explained possible reasons for the valve failure but said it was unusual to fail the way it did. As part of the discussion he talked about water pressure within pipes and how a “water hammer” also called an “water arrester” is used to reduce pressure that surges through plumbing as water shuts off quickly. We found that Lowe's and Home Depot both carry a simple mini water arrester (approx $10) that attach to washing machines water connections. We aren't sure of the source of pressure that caused the shower valve problem but it doesn't seem to matter. It seems long as you have a location within the line(s) for the pressure to be asorbed the stress on other parts is reduced. We put one each on the cold and hot water lines of the washing machine.

Recent Review: We are still putting our house back together and had reached the point of do-it yourselfer should stop (I knocked a pipe loose in the ceiling changing out a drain in upstairs bath and flooded kitchen). Agressive came in and fixed the drains on the two upstairs tubs which involved repairing a botched job from a previous plumber on the tub valve (I had no hot water), set a new toilet, shimmed two other toliets, checked the plumbing jobs we and another plumber had done, & installed shower head. They called back when they said they would, showed up exactly at 8 am as promised and called when in route, they neatly cut holes in my ceiling as small as possible in order to reduce the repair to ceiling that would be needed, removed anything that might get broken or damaged from area and replaced when they were done. They were quiet, kept me informed, worked for four hours (2 men). Estimate for shut off that they will come back to do later was only $150. They cleaned up after themselves removing the trash wiping down fixtures from dust with their supplies and swept up. If it weren't for the holes in the ceiling and the smile on my face at having all this stuff done finally you'd never know they were there. They actually saved me around $100 by bringing the second guy in as it would have taken the plumber several more hours if he had been by himself. This is my first try at Angie's list and I am blown away at the great results. I won't make a move without you in the future.

BAffordable Professional Home Improvements
I hired company for some minor home repairs noted in a home inspection. I was surprised when three workers showed up for tasks that I believed one handyman could easily have managed. Affordable Proffesional Home Improvement company are capable of repairing anything a homeowner would need repaired...because they are actually construction contractors. However, as I discussed w/Dervin/owner after I paid him $300.00 for the repairs, his fees exceeded the rate that I've paid handymen in the past for minor home repairs. This was the first time that I've used the services of this company, and I admit that I was remiss when not asking for an estimate of repairs before they did the work. The $300.00 was for labor only as I purchased all materials before they arrived. I will definately hire this company in the future because their work ethics and quality is outstanding, but he and I agreed that we'll agree on a price up front so that we will both be satisfied.
