It brings the outside in. We also love the pergloa. It gave us the shade we needed and also keeps our sunroom cooler It is a great addition , which we are enjoying. White Sands Decks & More
Recent Review: To begin, it's not easy to find anyone in this are to build a quality pergola. Several of the landscape/carpenter type companies I called either 1) didn't know what one was, 2) had never built one (although a few were willing to experiment in my yard!, or 3) wanted to build one similar to the "kit" pergolas you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. I wanted something build to withstand time as well as the elements, as I live on Santa Rosa Sound and we do get some heavy winds at times. This pergola was to be in my front yard, with a swing facing the water. We had recently done a major landscaping project and had included a 12 foot diameter round paved area especially for the pergola. Drew at White Sands was very excited to work with me to design something really nice. He showed me a lot of pictures of his work and spent a fair amount of time trying to understand what I wanted. In turn, I gave him pretty free license to come up with a design and the colors he thought would compliment my yard and landscaping.  I paid half of the $3,400 up front to initiate the job. From the start there were a few delays in getting the wood, getting the stain, getting the swing, but I was willing to be patient for what I thought would be a quality outcome. Drew actually came out with his crew and helped them build the pergola from scratch in my front yard. It was clear they knew what they were doing and I was impressed with the way they removed only the pavers they needed to, set the posts in concrete probably 3-4 feet in the ground, and used very good hardware to assemble the pergola. The swing was purchased by Drew from another company and is very nice. It was a major convenience for me that he shopped out the swing as I  hadn't found anything nearly that nice anywhere I had looked. Now here's where we go a bit south.... at the time of the initial build, there was follow up work to be done. I had to have my paver guys come back out and re-cut the pavers to fit around the feet of the pergola, then Drew was to come back out and put some decorative trim around the base of each leg and at the top of each leg were the top joins the posts. He was also to install hurricane clips to keep the thing from blowing into my neighbors house in a storm, and there was also a problem with a few of the bolts that they needed to be reinstalled. Since the remaining work was relatively minimal, I went ahead and paid the remaining balance. Big mistake. After my pavers were done, I called Drew and he was supposed to be out the following week. After 2 weeks passed, I called and inquired and Drew told me he was having some sort of family situation that he needed to deal with. I told him no worries, just give me a call when you are able to come out. After about a month, I called again and was told the same thing. Again I asked him to please call me when he was in a position to come out and finish the (probably 2-4 hours of) remaining work. September came and there was a tropical storm coming, so I really wanted someone to come put the hurricane clips on. I called Drew and he said someone would be out within the next 2 days. Nothing. No call, no one came. I called Drew again and no reply. That was six months ago and still, repeated voicemails, e-mails, and texts have gone unanswered. We installed the remaining bolts ourselves, but still the final trim has not been put on, nor have the hurricane clips. A few times I wondered if he had gone out of business, but he still has his website. So in a nutshell, while I am very happy with my pergola, I really wish it were finished! I am shocked at the blatant disregard Drew has shown for finishing the job after taking the money for it. I assume part of the blame as I would not normally pay someone until the work was completed, but in my dealing with Drew up to that point I would not have believed he would do something like this.

Jrs Landscape And Tree
Recent Review: I approached Mr. Hicks with my idea about reworking the backyard.  I wanted something to be relatively maintenance free, i.e. no cutting, pruning, weeding, etc.  Hosing and picking up pine cones would be alright.  We looked at some solutions such as bark, various rocks etc. and came up with the above plan. We decide on stone size and color, and Mr. Hicks went to work. The pergola was done right after the clearing, then the rock work.  There were no unforeseen problems and the work was finished on time and budget.

Mike's Garden
Award 2018Super Service Award
Recent Review: Mike responded to my request for an estimate to change out the landscaping due to me no longer being able to maintain the property. He listened to my wants and made suggestions to what would work and not work.   His suggestions were right on and  clearly stipulated in his proposal along with separate quotes for each phase of the project.  The curvatures of the new flower beds enhance the appearance of the house along with the new trees to eventually provide shade. His selection of the trees and plants were simply beautiful.  His personnel were professional, courteous, and efficient.  Mentioned how I wanted to redo the back patio and he had the right company and suggested using pavers.  Plus his suggestion to remove the small flower bed in front of the house and pave the whole patio redone in pavers was just amazing.  The company that performed the work was outstanding.  I think their name was "All Above Pavers".   Worked with me on the selection of the pavers and the workers were courteous and professional along with taking pride in their work.  There was no slacking on the job by the personnel.  Took four days to complete both front and back along with the walkway  but it was worth it.  All concrete was removed in the front and all the blocks in the back.  Certainly was a lot of work in this heat.  In addition, Mike suggested that a pergola would look beautiful over the patio and I stated how I always wanted one.  Did not know that option would be under his purview but it was.  The company he selected, I think is named "Pensacola Pergolas and Patios", was professional, efficient, and worked with me regarding design, staining, etc.  Columns put in one day and balance complete the next.  Was amazed how fast it went up.  A little pricey but the quality and workmanship was outstanding. Build to withstand anything.   Would definitely recommend Mike's Garden Center for all your landscaping needs.  Plus Mike checked all projects to ensure I was completely satisfied and if anything needed to be corrected.  Also provides guidance on what to do for the lawn to get rid of crabgrass and what to do for your current trees to ensure they stay healthy.  Another nice thing is that Mike will come back once a year and perform maintenance to ensure all stays healthy at  a small fee.  Am 100% satisfied with the work and appearance of everything.  The patios, pergola and landscaping is simply beautiful and looking forward to many hours of enjoyment sitting outside along with entertaining.

FWhite Sands Decks & More LLC
Check was cashed in May of 2018 for work that was to be done in June. Work has not been done and refund has been ignored after multiple requests to the company. The company has set multiple deadlines and completion dates then never shows up or follows up. They now have multiple BBB complaints and the company name is now zen outdoor concepts not white sands.

BOdd Job Construction
They did a wonderful job and they cleaned up after themselves.  I would recommend them. They were local, I've seen their work and I've talked to people who had them do things for them. The only problem is he's only been in business a few years and he's taking on every job so he doesn't finish the job and he go to the other job. He tries to do them all at one day and it doesn't work very well. He got me finish though and I was happy with that but I know that's what he does. The price is good and he did a lot of extra stuffs too.

We now have a lovely backyard that is easy to care for. The water features, a bubbler fountain and a pondless waterfall provide soothing sounds. We have an abundance of bird, bees, and butterflies now. Tommy, Elizabeth, and Chris were great at answering our questions and very nice to work with. We plan to use them for the front yard next year. They excel at making sure the customer is satisfied with their work.
