On the evening of Tue, Nov 29, 2011, our natural gas hot water heater went out. I followed instructions to relight the pilot on 3 failed attempts (the pilot would light, but wouldn't stay lit after 1 minute as it was supposed to), and then sought a capable plumber as the water heater instructions directed me. We selected A & H Plumbing based exclusively on favorable reviews on Angie's List. My wife called A & H on the morning of Wed, Nov 30, and scheduled the repair for first thing next morning, Thu, Dec 1. We've lived in the house since 2005, and this water heater came with the house. So given the apparent age of the unit, my wife and I were mentally prepared to purchase a new one. In fact we were willing to entertain the option of a natural gas tankless replacement. Rick arrived on time, and was extremely courteous. He determined that the water heater was built in 2001, and he believed this particular Rheem unit had more life left in it. He suggested replacing the thermocouple, and quoted us an exact price before he started any work. In very short order (less than 30 minutes), he had the hot water heater working again. Rick talked with us at length about our near term plans for remodeling our house in 2012, and he suggested that we'd need to retrofit a larger 1" gas line to support a natural gas tankless system in our house. He recommended we consider a Noritz condensing model. Also connected to our planned remodel, Rick crawled up in the attic with me to inspect the water heater roof vent that will need to be completely reworked when we purchase a new unit. He reassured us that while that prior work was clearly not top notch, a fix could wait 6 months to be properly sequenced in our much larger planned remodel. Finally, Rick completed minor sink & bath plumbing fixture fixes in two of our bathrooms. In summary, we are very relieved as a family to have found our plumber. We will definitely hire A&H again for our future plumbing needs. Thanks very much, Rick!
