Recent Review: As previously mentioned, several different work crews assisted with an extensive remodel/refurbishment I had done on my house this year (2012). Because the Tip Top products were at the heart of the major remodeling work, it was imperative that Tip Top handle its part of the overall project, especially inside the main house, in a timely and proficient manner. It also required a lot of coordination and cooperation with the other workers involved. This the Tip Top crew members did in superior fashion. Not only did they remain professional and accommodating, they even went so far as to rectify some problems caused by others in areas where both crews were working. For example, my first flooring installation contractor was a problem from the start, hampering the work of others by failing to meet the agreed-upon dates and times for work to be completed as well as yanking workers mid-job to send them to other "more important" job sites. Because of the owner's lack of commitment as well as a lack of experience on the part of some of the crew assigned to my job, the tile installers who worked in the bathroom where the new walk-in tub had been put in by Tip Top tried to hurry the job and ended up making a mistake in cutting the tile closest to the new tub, possibly compromising both the structural integrity of the tub and the entire bathroom's cosmetic appearance. Actually, it was the Tip Top crew chief (Chris) who caught the mistake. Although it was in no way part of his contractual obligation, to preclude any further possibility of damage to the Tip Top work, he purchased the correct tile saw blade and recut the tiles to fit correctly then laid the tile again. His proactive response partly mitigated the timeliness problem of the flooring installation contractor which was impacting everyone else's work, thereby making it possible for Tip Top and two other contractors to continue their work in the bathroom without being held hostage to the eventually-replaced flooring installation contractor's erratic behavior and sloppy standards. The most significant example of Tip Top Home Solution's commitment to quality work and customer service satisfaction was shown clearly in how they dealt with a major problem concerning the replacement of the Four Seasons sun room that I had added in 1993. Although I had had concerns almost from the start about that room, it was mainly just a "bad feeling" and unsubstantiated speculation about the root cause of the seemingly never-ending problems with skylight leakage, HVAC difficulties, electrical troubles, hard-to-open outside doors and complications with the not-so-easy-to-slide sliding windows. Eventually the Four Seasons franchise in Huntsville (no longer in business in the city) that originally built the room refused to stand behind their work and would not even discuss possible repairs to the room although I did not press these ongoing problems as warranty-related items. I just wanted the people who built the room to help me figure out what was happening to it and to suggest a course of corrective action for which I was willing to pay. Almost every year from 1995 until 2011, I tried to find other contractors to correct the various problems that continually plagued that older sun room. The indoor fiberglass pool was never an issue because it was maintained separately by a very reputable pool company in Huntsville. But it was not until the Tip Top crew began tearing out the old room in the spring of 2012 that my worst fears about the structural integrity and stability of that part of the house were fully justified. It had long been my conviction that the darn room was on the verge of collapse, but that was usually when I was extremely frustrated at paying hundreds of dollars for repairs that never really solved anything. The fact that I could never find anyone willing to do more than apply the equivalent of a home construction band-aid to what was finally discovered to be a major structural wound had long been a big headache for me. Thus by the fall of 2011, I was determined to start from scratch (although others advised against it) by having the room rebuilt, using the original foundation if possible. Little did the Tip Top folks or I realize that the so-called foundation was the root of much that was wrong with that Four Seasons sun room. Not long after work began on that part of the house, the Tip Top crew chief (Chris) quickly ascertained that the existing foundation could not be the basis for the new sun room. In fact, the travesty that was the foundation for what had been a $40,000 sun room in 1993 dollars was utterly mindboggling to me as well as to the construction professionals and city building inspector who saw the few concrete blocks and sand piles that laid hidden behind the exterior skirting of the original room. From my own uninformed perspective, it appeared that the whole structure had escaped slowly collapsing along the steep down slope of my property simply because of the layout of my "L"-shaped house. Even the fiberglass tub of the countercurrent pool was being held tenuously in place by a single block. Naturally I was extremely upset about the original defective construction, incredulous that the building inspection process back in 1993 had not prevented such slipshod work, and embarrassed that all my former efforts to "fix" the room's problems were so useless. That mess of a room made me feel like a first-class fool. Of course, all the dollars wasted on building the original structure and subsequent "repairs," in addition to the extra money needed to continue the sun room replacement, seriously depressed my mood about home ownership in general. Once upon a time, when I was an apartment dweller blissfully ignorant of such concerns, my idea of home improvement was simply to move elsewhere. A problem like this foundation SNAFU previously would have triggered box loading and suitcase packing because it figuratively seemed that the bow of my personal Titanic was accelerating quickly downward into the icy depths. But running away is usually not too realistic when you own the house. Although it is cliche to talk of the cavalry riding to the rescue that was almost what it felt like after Tip Top explained what had to be done about the sun room foundation, refigured the costs associated with building a new foundation, then offered a choice of actions for how to proceed with this part of my overall project. Not once did I ever think that the company considered this a possible "ka-ching" moment for them. If additional proof had been needed (which I did not think necessary) about the professional integrity, superior work ethic, dedicated customer service and genuine "niceness" of the management and staff of Tip Top Home Solutions, the the sun room the company built for me is a classic example. Not only did they provide a great deal of support in helping me mentally overcome a sense of having "been had," Chris's (the crew chief's) conscientiousness and meticulous care in building the new sun room went above and beyond the highest standards. Despite the difficulty of the work site (hard clay with a lot of rocks) and miserably oppressive heat, the Tip Top crew worked diligently to construct a room that surpassed the original structure to such an extent that the term "replacement" is not truly applicable. Their level of expertise and disciplined effort impressed at least one of the city's tougher building inspectors as well as caught the notice of a local construction contractor who lives across the street and who tried unsuccessfully to lure away Tip Top's employees to work for him. There are not words enough to truly thank the people who are Tip Top Home Solutions. Their smaller courtesies (like crew members taking off their shoes every time they came into the house--other workers often did not), friendliness, honesty and constant mindfulness in doing their best at all times made all the difference in how well this big upgrade in my life succeeded. What I believe the people of Tip Top Home Solutions did for me was much more than home improvement. They provided me with a true Quality of Life makeover that has substantially enriched how I now exist in an everyday world that constantly challenges the disabled and elderly (my 88-year-old mom shares the home with me). I cannot relate adequately how soothing can be the simple pleasure of a shower or bath with far fewer fears of a slip or fall. With their expert help and quality products, I no longer worry about wasted energy, mold and higher utility bills because of old windows; wonder about possible roof and ceiling damage, especially in the fall, due to clogged gutters; or feel a nagging sense of "wrongness" about what should be an enjoyable leisure area like a beautiful sun room. Quality, reliability, affordability can be acquired from many home improvement contractors. But Tip Top Home Solutions also deals in a truly rare commodity: peace of mind. Ultimately it is the people of Tip Top Home Solutions who make possible that sense of ease that everyone wants to associate with the place they live. This company serves up a generous helping of that feeling with every home solution it provides. I definitely would do business with them again.
