Recent Review: As I indicated above, dealing with Craig and his contractors (like Conan Goodman, the electrican from Opelika, or Craig's fellow installer from Florida -- whose name escapes me) were all -- both collectively and individually -- a joy to deal with from beginning to end. Unfortunately, I don't remember all their names (such as the two guys who did some of the shovel digging, or Craig's assistant when he first brought the solar panels), but everyone was fun to talk to, friendly, and competent. I can't describe what a joy it was to deal with such folks -- for as many who have had work done on their houses can testify -- there is often some "hitch" (or worse) even among the best of the bunch! There were none here with either Craig or his crew. It all went very smoothly. The only problem that I had was in some of my dealings with Alabama Power afterward. They had a problem getting their power-meter to work correctly, and had to make several visits before it finally performed correctly! However, they later gave complete credit (money) for the 1-2 months that this took place, thanks especially to my girlfriend's persistence and level-headedness in dealing with them. According to Daryl Berquist, the other solar installer that I've dealth with -- and that I praised above for his work on my battery systems -- Alabama Power has actually been much easier to deal with in his experience that the many of the local co-ops that buy their power from Alabama Power. I can only speculate, but I would think that as time goes on, and there are many more solar installations that connect with Alabama Power, this interface will probably only get smoother, and more and more routine -- and perhaps one day will even be totally delightful! :) But even the Alabama Power Company experience was interesting and edifying. One of their exployees, Jeral Jones, was especially friendly and very humorous, informing us that the fellow that programms their meters insists on working alone and refuses to delegate any work to others! (This, of course, is probably why it took so long for ALABAMA POWER to get it work correctly, as there are many other states where solar interconnections have been going on for some time, and thus where experience in metering the electrical production and usage has been gleaned and is available upon request).
