Reviews in Moody for Building a Pool House

AWoodford Residential
It went great! They were very professional. They showed up early and stayed late to complete the project. They actually completed it faster than originally quoted. Jonn David did a wonderful job, I would definitely recommend him to friends and family for woodworking jobs

FPrestige Construction
Came out to quote the job and I never heard from again. Was told was going to get prices on materials and never called or showed up to do the job nor call with a price for services.

FTWIN CONSTRUCTION
Twin Construction is run by two gentlemen that are biological twins. They are good looking and clean-cut and thus good at making a sale and making the client think they will do a good job. Sadly, the are utterly incompetent at building homes. I cannot recall a single thing they did on our job that was done correctly on the first try. Not included in the above cost is the cost of bringing in a new builder to fix all of their errors.

AS M THORNTON LANDSCAPES
This was absolutely the best experience we've had with contractors at our home. Steve thoughtfully redesigned our back yard, taking everything into consideration. (Our back yard is complicated with serious drainage problems, including city easements over culverts.) The design included everything we wanted: a bigger deck (including a planter), placement and assembly of a storage shed (purchased separately), installation of raised garden beds, removal of huge unsightly encroaching roots from a neighboring tree, transfer of a favorite gardenia from front to back, and placement of shrubs around the boundaries to soften the overall look. The plan was to our liking and within our budget, so we hired him to proceed. The only thing better than the design was the execution. At every juncture, Steve did something better than we were expecting. How often does that happen these days? He and his crew were polite, friendly, hard-working and thorough. We are completely satisfied with the results and enthusiastically recommend SM Thornton Landscapes to anyone. A++ without reservations.

CSuperior Contractors
Clint and his workers are all super nice people, very courteous and respectful. He beat two other bids that we had, and because of his personality we decided to go with him. I could go into the events of the entire week, but it would take a while, and all you really care about is the end result, right? The deck looks great  at first glance! They did have to re-do a few things that I wasn't satisfied with, one being split spindles, but he did replace them and I was satisfied with it. The front porch looks great at first glance! A huge improvement over the previous metal railing that was there. Remember the small landing that we wanted in front of the shed? Well, it's nothing more than a 'box' that you step up on. VERY disappointed in that one! After being here and really paying attention to the detail of the workmanship, that's where he loses me. There are exposed nails in places on the railing around the front porch. The nails on the deck are not consistent. Some stick out further than others, some are deeper in the wood than others. They are not in a straight line, kind of but not really. You can see the attempt, but the reality is they aren't straight. A couple of the spindles are crooked. Again, at first glance, everything (with exception of the shed) looks great. It's the attention to detail that is a disappointment. Oh, the baby gates are great, really nice! The other huge disappointment is what they left behind. NONE of the existing wood was hauled off. My husband wanted to keep some of it, but we pointed out exactly what he wanted and we specifically said everything else could be hauled away. NOTHING was hauled away, and that was part of the bid. And we have picked up enough nails between the front and back yard that we could probably build another deck! We picked up empty wrappers, not sure what they were from. Oh, and the empty McDonalds cup that was left in the cupholder on my swing in the front yard............Once again, it's the attention to detail that is missing with this company, the lack of urgency, and the mess they left behind - Great personalities, pleasant to be around, and a decent price, but don't expect 'craftmanship' and don't expect a clean yard when they are finished. In my opinion, they don't check their work behind themselves to insure that it is right. Or then again, maybe they do......?? I must say, we have not called them back to express our dissatisfaction, so they have not been given the opportunity to come make it right. We have simply taken care of it ourselves. It is my belief that we shouldn't have to call them back. It should have been done right the first time around.

AWyatt Building Corp
Also to prevent things from coming out really different from what one has in mind, I would recommend having a good set of drawings to work by. Our project turned out fine using an improvisational approach but probably would have been easier on both parties had we had drawings by an architect. Our project was hard to bid because we did not know what was under the siding before it was taken down. Randy kept good accounting of the extra work and was fair in his charges. My husband and I would be happy to recommend Wyatt Building Corp to our friends.

FSouthland Properties, Inc.
My wife and I chose Southland Properties, Inc. to build our new home in Homewood, Alabama. We met with Craig Stephens and Durwin Richey (the owners) and were initially very impressed with them. They presented themselves as having numerous years of homebuilding experience and as devout Christians. Unfortunately, after signing the contract with them, things quickly deteriorated. They assigned a project manager named Dave Trucks to our project who was completely inept at managing our build. Southland's communication with us was almost non-existent so we were always having to reach out to them to find out what was going on. Items that we asked for were not done as asked and we would have to remind them constantly of what we wanted or else they would pick out things or do them without consulting with us (and this was a high-end custom home build). Dave yelled at my wife when he was questioned on mistakes and never paid attention to details (he never wrote a single thing down when we met with him to discuss the build). There are so many things they didn't finish on the house and we find new things every day. Our brand new fireplace doesn't work. They ran a nail into a pipe during construction and once the water was turned on, it slowly leaked for 6 months. We asked that they fix their mistake (under the warranty that they provided to us) and they did half of it. We are still sitting with a laundry room under construction 7 months later with a house that is less than a year old. But the worst part is that they sat in our kitchen and bragged about all of their bible study groups they're in but they're the farthest from Christians. During construction, we had to begin documenting every request related to the build. Durwin and Craig would not respond to communications or not respond timely, Dave would never write anything down and what we thought would be a wonderful dream of building our house became a nightmare. By the end of the project, Dave told us he was "no longer working for Southland" so they had to bring in a new project manager. We still have a long list of unfinished items such as missing trim, paint spills on the carpet, plug covers missing, sheet rock patched but not sanded/painted, rust stains in our brand new tubs, gas fireplace does not work, pulls on cabinet doors drilled in the wrong place, etc. (see the picture gallery above). Best of all, they tried to bill us for change orders of work that was never performed (I kept meticulous track of the costs). We sent them a certified letter from our attorney regarding all of the unfinished items but they never responded. We have now had to file a claim with our insurance company in order to get the laundry room repairs completed after the water leak they caused. They initially covered up the leak by repainting the cabinet bases where there was moisture damage. Don't ever use Southland Properties, Inc. or these individuals for your home building or renovation needs. In addition to Southland Properties, Inc., they also appear to own or be involved with a company called Southland Properties Real Estate as well as building homes in a subdivision called Grand Oak in Trussville, Alabama.

AOne Call Roofing
From the first day at the foreclosure home "One Call Roofing" did it all and did it all correct.  As I mentioned above the work was done perfect from tile in three bathrooms and large pantry, electrical rewire of most of the house, re sheetrocking of major torn down walls, screening of large portion. The tiles were perfect as anyone could imagine. All of the demo was carted away and all spaces cleaned.  They basically have refinished most of my house at a competitive price..If I had any questions I never waited more than 20 min for a recall and question answered.  No one has ever been this prompt. At my sold home same story..Why trust anyone else when these guys can do anything you want.  Any job and it appears no job was to small.  The repaired gutters that were tilted wrong and caused a major leak in my basement, window cracks and hard ware.. My next job will be doing a metal roof on the foreclosed home.  And who am I calling?  One Call Roofing Team. I have already gotten a quote for 3000 sq foot home, large barn, tool room and carport.  Their price was competitive and to tell the truth even if they had been a bit high I would use them anyway.  I don't want any problems and or stress and this is what One Call Roofing does the best..they take the stress off you and do the job..You don't have to follow them around to see if the job is done correctly..it is inspected by the managers at One Call before any money exchanges hands.. I am really happy with Angie's List...I found this contractor and a tree service that was exceptional..Without Angie's list I would have had to find someone to do all this work. In the past I have not been fortunate enough to find the right people..jobs half completed, shabby work, not showing up, no communications and overpriced...Call One Call Roofing and as the name implies you will only make One Call..they will handle the rest..Great company...Next the roof, and next the siding...One Call is in my future...give them a call..it will be the last you make if looking for good contractors..
