Pete was very honest and professional. He explained procedures and options very well. If you consider him for a job, I would suggest setting specific times and dates for scheduling and completion of work. My husband and I did delay the work on the siding by about 2 weeks in order to consider vinyl siding, but the completion of all the work at our house lasted 5 months due to several delays. Pete stands behind his work.

FFIVE STAR BUILDERS INCORPORATED
We live elsewhere, and the contractor was to keep us informed of the progress on the work between our quarterly visits to the property. The neighbor to the house also watched over the progress for us. The contractor hired all work out to sub-contractors and as best we have been told never once showed up to supervise or oversee the quality of the work. This presumption was born out by the poor quality of the work that was done and his "surprise" when we pointed out problems during our periodic walk-thru inspections. Much of the work had to be redone, for example ... We painted all of the interior walls just prior to the start of the contract after his approval. He then later spray painted most of the interior trim without masking the walls. We pulled up all the carpet beforehand and pointed out to him water stained and potentially damaged subflooring that we wanted replaced. He went ahead anyway and installed laminate floor over the water damaged subflooring. He installed ceramic tile in a shower stall and left extensive fracture lines at grout in the floor tiles as well as horribly mis-aligned grout lines throughout the entire shower stall. He also used the poorly, hand-cut tile ends as substitute for real bullnose tiles around perimeter areas. He used one of the bedrooms without plastic tarp as a spray booth for all of the interior doors, leaving spray paint all over the walls, ceiling, and newly installed ceiling fan. He kept the windows fully shut while painting white on the interior of dark wood windows. He painted over the front door without first properly sanding and priming it, and the new paint could be scrapped off with a finger nail. He installed short toilets in spite of our numerous, explicit request for tall toilets. He moved an AC vent opening on the floor and then left the corresponding AC duct work unattached for nearly two months despite our explicit immediate requests to have it reconnected with all due urgency. As to the requests we made that he ignored, he also later tried to have us pay for some of these as "corrections". He would never give or adhere to specific time lines for any of his work, and he was always seriously cash strapped. Finally, we learned that he never posted a permit for the contract work as may have been required. We are now nearly nine months after starting what should have been perhaps a month long project at most with having to find someone else to finish what he did poorly and did not complete as agreed upon. In summary ... the only thing reasonable about this contractor are his costs. The above tells the rest of the story. Avoid this contractor at any cost!

ADavid Gilliam (Trim & Small Home Repairs)
Jim came out twice to look at the job and show us samples before we scheduled him to do the work. Before calling Jim, we had another contractor come out and give us an estimate for just the living room that approached $1000. Given the reviews on Angie's List and Jim's much more reasonable pricing, we decided to give him the job. In total, his crew spent approximately 5 hours here. They did an excellent job and cleaned up their outside workspace before leaving. Later, we found a few areas that could use additional paint and let Jim know that afternoon. He came out the next day and repainted those areas himself at no charge. We highly recommend Jim and feel he is honest and fair. We have already discussed taking on additional projects with him and will continue to go to him in the future for our home repair, trim, and woodworking needs.

When I requested the trim to be repaired I asked them to replace my wood exterior trim. I had one place that was very visibly damaged and needed to be replaced. They came out and said they would do the replacement for $1200.00 for the "rotted boards." He only replaced a tiny area that was maybe 4 feet long for the $1200. I also wanted it painted, and he did just the one small area. When you looked at it you could tell he only did the small area because it was a completely different color. I told him he could have at least painted all the other trim to make it all match. He did come back and paint the rest of the trim. He did a professional job then on the front of the house, but not on the back. You can see the brush strokes and it doesn't look good. I also had him replace some vinyl siding. The people before had used white caulk. He cut out the previous piece and just put globs of silicon in some places. If you look at it you can tell exactly where he put the silicone. I now have to have someone else come in to fix all of the work. I went ahead and paid him because I didn't want to deal with it anymore. I would not recommend him to anyone.
