Recent Review: We recently purchased a home that was being sold by a relocation company.  The relocation company had hired Welch's plumbing to do some repairs so the home could be sold.  I happened to be at the home the day they were performing the repairs.  I noticed how professional, neat and hard working they were.  Knowing that we wanted gas run to the house so we could have a tankless gas hot water heater installed, along with several other things, I asked if they could give me an estimate.  Their estimate was thorough and detailed.  When the day came for them to start their work they worked hard and I felt completely comfortable with them in my home.  They not only installed the tankless hot water heater, they ran all of the gas lines to hook up with the line that Alagasco ran from the road.  They helped me coordinate with the gas company so that my gas would be on and we would have hot water by the time we got moved in to the house.  They also hooked up our gas grill, gas starter on the fireplace and our gas dryer.  Our new laundry room did not have a sink and they were able to install this as well.  I told them I was considering getting a new kitchen sink as well, because the one that was in the house was not very nice.  They helped me to save some money on this by installing a new faucet and new drains instead and ended up making my old sink look brand new.  This saved so much money by not having to purchase a whole new sink.  While they were here one of the toilets wasn't working properly and they were kind enough to take a little extra time to fix this for me. They were always very helpful.  Each time they came into the house they were very considerate and put booties on to cover their shoes.  They cleaned everything up behind them and made everything look as if they were never there.  They took all of their trash with them and never left a mess and even hauled off the old hot water heaters!  Brent and John were some of the hardest working, nicest gentlemen we have encountered during our move.  Lonnie, I believe he is the owner, was here on the first day when they started the job.  He was so helpful, explaining everything and making sure I knew exactly what was going to be done.  I can't say enough good things about this company.  Brent, John and Lonnie are the best!

Recent Review: Workers were punctual and arrived on time. They found and showed me the gas pipe that was dangerous and replaced it. Installed gas fireplace and double checked lines for leaks, which none were found. Coordinated with City of Jacksonville for required pressure test. They have done previous work for me and they do a very good job. After they completed the job I requested and received an estimate to replace all my water lines and partial drain pipes. I will hire them for the job after Christmas.

We have an older home.  It had a small gas heater in the bathroom that I seldom used since I had central heat & air installed.  On several occasions I would smell gas.  I called the gas company to see if there was a leak.  They informed me that it was on "MY" side of the meter and they would shut it off till I could have someone to look for leaks.  I called several places and Welch Plumbing was the only place that would even say they would come out to check.  The other places said they did not do that kind of work.  (These were referred to me by the gas company!)  I was without gas for 4 days! When the crew from Welch Plumbing came out they advised me that I had several (about 10) leaks in my lines. Remember the older house? They told me that if I had 3 or less they could fix but with that many the recommended me to replace the lines.  I agreed and they did an excellent job!  Each time they had to come into the house they insisted on wearing booties over their shoes even though I told them it was not necessary on my part.  I have a gas stove top and water heater.  They installed new connections for each of these with quick cut offs.  I am very pleased with the work.  It has been over a year since they installed the new gas lines and I have had no problems.

All this work was for a home we just bought. We called him on Friday and he came out on Saturday morning to check our water heaters pilot light and gas lines.  He arrived on time and bled the gas lines before lighting the pilot light.  He was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the service and operation of a gas water heater, which was new to us..  After making sure the water heater was functioning properly, he checked the water pressure with most of the home's faucets running and that all the toilets flushed properly.  At this time, we noticed almost all the sinks' faucets were leaking around the handles.  He attempted to manually tighten them, but when that didn't work he ran to the hardware store to buy rebuild kits for the faucets and installed them.  All faucets worked fine afterwards. He was very professional and efficient.  We would recommend him to others and use him again in the future.  When asked about other projects we were considering, he was very informative and was able to provide knowledgeable suggestions.  As a side note, he was comfortable around our pets.

Bad - they only sent out what they thought by a phone call, never came out to look 1st. Sent wrong unit out, I wanted an attic unit and they sent out a wall unit. cracked a gas line and didn't fix it or tell anyone until I found it 5 hours later. Put outside unit in wrong spot. All they have done to fix all this is moved outside unit. House still stays hot.

FSalser Plumbing
Before starting, Salser said the cost would be $130. Although I thought that was high I agreed because we had to have the pipe fixed in order to use the bathroom and shower. After finishing Salser said the price was now $180 because the pipe was 9 ft long and he charged $20/ft. He had a clear view of the job before starting so this was pure robbery and taking advantage of our emergency. When I attempted to pay him he had no invoice and I told him I needed one. He left and came back later with a hand written generic invoice like you get at an office supply store. The total on the invoice was now $220. I paid him because after listening to him threaten to kill his son on the phone I figured he would probably tear the pipe back up if I didn't. If this sounds incredible, I have two witnesses from the other contractor who can verify everything I have said except for the last part when he presented me with the $220 invoice.

ASouthern Plumbing & Gas
I found his number on Angie's List and read the reviews.  I tried to contact him through the Angie's list site but didn't get a response so after 24 hours I decided to call directly instead because I wasn't sure if he had actually been contacted by the site or not.  I left him a message and he called me back within minutes.  He had an opening within about 30 hours which was fine for me.  He called when he was a few minutes away and arrived on schedule.  He was very polite and got right to work.  I was surprised that he was able to finish the gas line and stove hookup and also repair the hot water heater during the first visit!   He actually even found a small gas leak in the attic and repaired that while he was up there.  He didn't have time to repair the leaking outside faucet but isn't charging a separate trip charge which he didn't have to do.  He got along well with the dogs as well so that's always a good sign!  We have a new fireplace to install so i will definitely be calling him back out.

CSouthern Heating & Cooling Inc
When I first contacted the Home Warranty company, they contacted Southern and sent a very competent, professional technician. He gave me a verbal estimate and explained what the issues were. Once the Home Warranty company approved the work, I had to wait for parts and that took a long time, over 3 months. The two companies blamed each other for the delay. This area had been severely ravaged by tornadoes in late April and Southern Heating told me and quot;regular customers were hurting with no roof over their heads in some cases.and quot; They asked if they could delay my work to tend to the serious destruction. I readily and willingly agreed. However, when I had family coming to visit, I called and asked them to please come and fix the upstairs heat pump so I could have A/C; it was over 90 in the rooms upstairs during the day. They did not come and I had to purchase a window A/C to make life bearable for my guests. Finally, in late August, they fixed the heat pump and I had A/C (and this winter, heat) in the upstairs. My downstairs had A/C, but the heating portion did NOT work and needed to be fixed before winter. I called several times and continued to get a run-around from the service manager. Eventually, he told me the part that had been ordered and delivered in June was the wrong part. So for 4 months, the company had either failed to check the order or had failed to get the correct part. I was going out of town, the weather was getting cold, and I wanted heat in the house. The service manager said I would have to wait. Finally, I sent an email to the only address I could find at the web site and the next day, the technician came to the house. He said the owner had seen the e-mail and was upset. Things moved quickly and measurements were taken for the new cowling, and the unit was checked for installation. Unfortunately, the measurements were wrong and had to be redone and by then we were leaving on a long trip. I was assured by the technician that the work would be done and the heat turned on in two days. The technician called two days later to say the work was done, and everything was working. We returned home a month later and the new cowling was in. I could detect NO change to the gas line or the concrete pad, and the electric lines also appeared the same. So when I got a bill for $825, exactly as the estimate had been, I called and requested an itemized bill. That was in mid-November. I heard nothing and so called again in mid-December. I was told a bill would be sent. It has been another 4 weeks and no bill. The individual technician who inspected and did initial repair was professional, courteous, and efficient. The owner apparently took responsibility and quickly jumped in once he was aware of an issue. The secretary/receptionist who took my calls was polite but I have never heard back from her on my issues. The service manager gave me the run-around at every call, blaming someone else, and has yet to provide an itemized bill. This company was contacted through my Home Warranty company. I contacted the Home Warranty company to report the issues and they told me if I needed additional work, they would be sure to use a different provider in the future.
