Recent Review: They dug the trench for the gas line on Monday. The pipe was layed and connected to the water heater on Tuesday (no hot water). On Wednesday the city inspector said the pipe was not large enough to handle the BTUs for the water heater let alone my other requirements. Joe East determined the best action for "them" was to get a bigger gas meter. They put a couple pressure values (our responsibility) on the above ground pipes and we waited for the new meter. On Friday HSV utilities installed the meter and we had hot water. There was damage done to the outside brick wall when a hole was punched into the garage to get the gas line inside the house. It was fixed with a cement mixture to prevent water penetration. Later when I talked to the owner, with a long list of complaints, I found her to be a very nice lady who really cares about "customer satisfaction". I say she cares because she sent her son to our house to talk to us and later sent a team of people to the house to fix the damaged garage. I wanted to give this company a better rating because of the attitude and actions of the owner but because it took too long to complete the job, the initial way the damage to my house was handled and mostly because their job manager (Wesley) showed very little professionalism when dealing with me and the problems he encountered. I would not recommend using Joe East (Wesley) to install a gas line.

Recent Review: I hired Paula Austin as my real estate agent when I was moving last year, she helped us find our perfect forever home. We knew going in that it needed lots of work and we were up for the challenge. I wasn't aware of it when I hired her but she also owns Durable Designs with her husband Lee. Over the first year of owning this home I had called her several times for referrals for electricians and plumbers and she was always more than helpful and hooked me up with some awesome people. When we decided to do our fireplace I contacted Durable Designs and thought I'd give them a shot at biding the work. Not only did Lee have the most perfect design for it but he said it would only take a day and a half and the price was right and he was way more professional than the other contractors I had met. Just like when I had worked with Paula it seemed to be a good match. Well Lee showed up exactly when he said he would (never heard of a contractor actually showing up on time!) and the work was done exactly in the amount of time he said and the ugliest part of our room is now the best part of our house! So glad I met the Austin's, they are really great people and when I get ready to have an outside kitchen I will call them first!
Roger, Josh, Tommy and Michael were great to work with. They did a great job at a fair price and were flexible to work with, even when we were trying to figure things out and changing plans on them. Highly recommend McMunn Construction, very good to deal with and would like to work with them again in the future.

He came to our house to examine the repairs that was needed. This allowed him to know how much caulk and glue he needed to make the repairs. He came back another day and did the repairs that we needed. We are satisfied with his work and would hire him for any future repairs.

Called them for what we thought was a minor repair- ended up have to replace the interior as well as entire exterior of the chimney.

AHernandez Brick & Masonry
Our new outdoor living space is beautiful! The fireplace complete with mantle and hearth exceeded our expectations! The crew was prompt, professional and took great pride in their work. They were also friendly and great to work with. I wish we could post a photo. Our friends and family who have seen their work are impressed! I prefer not to put a dollar amount on the website.

AJOE ATNIP & ASSOC
Great. Courteous and skilled installers are worth the higher labor cost than labor rates you might find elsewhere.

He did a fantastic job for us! Our floor had a tricky spot with a curved front of a fireplace and he installed a laminate floor and it just looks perfect! I don't remember the cost but I do remember it was reasonable.

CThe Fireplace Doctor
I hired The Fireplace Doctors only because I had a Groupon. I should have been suspicious when their "normal" price for a chimney cleaning was $200 when it should be about $100, but with the Groupon it was only $50, so it wasn't that big a deal. The service man arrived late but called and made sure that I was aware that his previous appointment delayed him, so that was okay. I was working from home anyhow, so it didn't matter. The service man cleaned the chimney and inspected it. He told me that I would need about $2000 worth of work to get the issues he saw addressed. He said that if I had them do all of it, he could discount it down to $1900. Luckily for me, I didn't have $1900 sitting around, so I told him that I would have the work done later. After thinking about the job for a few days, I decided to get a second opinion and had the Chimney Sweep Company (highly rated here on Angie's List) do a second inspection and give me a second opinion on how much work was required. A second inspection would cost me an additional $65, but with a $1900 bill looming over my head, it seemed like a good gamble. John Kappelman told me that I needed about $400 worth of maintenance and took the time to show me which parts were simple enough that I could do them myself. He rolled his eyes when I told him that I had called The Fireplace Doctors first and I inferred from him that they are infamous for telling people they need much more expensive repairs than they really do. Also, John pointed out that The Fireplace Doctors had failed to remove a clamp that I had instructed them to remove and implied that he was unimpressed with the cleaning job that they had done. Don't call these guys, even if you have what sounds like a great discount. Call the Chimney Sweep Company instead.

ADavid Gilliam (Trim & Small Home Repairs)
Jim was able to figure out how to do this when the Geek Squad said it was too difficult for them due to the construction of the our newer house. Jim was able to remove the crown moulding and run the wires and cables from behind the TV, through the wall and up through the attic space, them replace everything. It was minimally invasive. Jim, David, and Richard were pleasant to work with. They communicated well and were timely.

ADavid Gilliam (Trim & Small Home Repairs)
Jim and his team arrived on schedule (unlike another guy I called for an estimate, and yet another who didn't return my calls to start work). Jim was my "Third times a charm." My biggest concern was the master bath shower which had holes in the grout and cracks between tiles. He took care of it and more. As the morning went on I added on a few more "honey-do's" that my husband had never gotten around to doing. I was apologetic adding things we had not discussed during our initial consult; He didn't mind one bit that I kept adding to the list. I also had an outdoor fireplace that kept seeping water around its base. I didn't know what to do about it. He immediately determined the problem (someone had patched over the weeping holes). He drilled just a couple of holes in strategic places and water literally came pouring out of the fireplace. Now the area around it is dry as a bone (as it should be!). I'll definitely call on Jim again when I need things fixed around the house.
