On initial visit Charles was meticulous to write down everything we discussed. Over next day or two he gave me a written capture of what we discussed and the estimate of when project will be completed, weather permitting. Gave me choice of how projects/materials would be completed and the cost savings for each. He asked for a very modest deposit to start the project He was flexible with adding or removing projects during the estimate phase and after; plus he was helpful during the assessment of the project, recommending creative ideas/choices of how to repair without increasing the price, or to lower the estimate. One example is after he replaced the screens on sliding doors that my dogs ripped, he constructed/attached a track to existing screen door frame to insert a protective lattice which will keep the dogs from ripping through them again - WOW !! this has saved my day and the dogs! was so tired of replacing screens. He advised on best price/quality of paint and materials best covers and protects. He used quality products, ex: put a solid wood door instead of a fiber filled door to replace a rotted door. Provided useful info about differences on steel doors vs real solid wood, plus solid wood door cost less. Installed doggie door in wood door, is now stable, works great. Always kept me updated w/email at end of day with review of work finished or ongoing; then listed the next phases he would start, and when it would begin and be completed. He was flexible with changes/adding to project, gave me very honest and fair pricing. Before repairing, he checked for decay/damage. He used proper hardware in the wood to keep structure from pulling apart, i.e., used wood screws instead of nails. Always prompt upon arriving, always completed project started, weather permitting. Kept repair area clean. Was careful in planning his time not to get pressed on time or with too many other jobs - conscientious to finish w/quality results. He explained he would rather take more time to do quality work - I can attest to this, he spent necessary time to ensure it was completed right, I am sure happy with the results. Please do not be in a hurry to have the job finished. Quality work takes time. Because he took his time to do job right, my house looks great, and I am confident the repairs will last. Charles may work one other project on different days when not working on yours, which is great because it keeps his cost down, which keeps your cost down. He is skilled, knows how to do most any type repair on many types of projects, he does not sub out his work, again, keeping cost down not having to pay subs. Personally I do not want subs doing the work, I trust the one person, Charles, around my home when I am not around, he is honest and trustworthy. You see commercials on TV about the service person they hired who actually went the "extra mile'" one day when they were unable to be home to let the dog out? Well, Charles is that guy. I have 10 large guardian type dogs, not real friendly, who have the run of the yard and house. They were a factor in my choice for someone dependable, skilled and willing to work with and around the dogs. He not only was able to earn their confidence, they were sad when he left. Charles became someone they trusted and respected too ! Hope Charles continues with his profession because I will call him again and again for future projects. I have recommended him to family members and friends looking for a professional, honest, skilled and dependable.
