Recent Review: Was very responsive when calling to request work on a Thursday. Told them that the job took a 40 ft ladder since my husband would have fixed it himself if he had a longer ladder. Someone came to give me an estimate on Monday. He gave me a very reasonable price for the work of replacing the trim which consisted of labor only. He wrote on the estimate that it required a 40 ft ladder. On Tuesday, he returned to do the work. When he put his "not 40 ft" ladder up it was too short so he told me he had to go back and get his other ladder and would be back. I never heard from him that day or the next. On Thursday I called again and was told that he would be back on Friday. I had other plans so we worked it out for him to come on Monday. He did show up on Monday with his 40 ft. Ladder and completed the job satisfactorily.

Recent Review: The service was excellent. The estimate was half of the price of another company. I would highly recommend them. One of the guys was a carpenter and we were able to add putting in crown molding and repairing minor damage to our home for a lower cost than other competitors.

Recent Review: Living in Florida and owning a rental property in the Chattanooga area, it's been difficult to coordinate maintenance and repairs. After finding the Deck Doctor on Angie's List, I was very impressed with his communication and enthusiasm. My daughter, who lives in Chattanooga, inspected his work for me after complete and said everything looked great. I would recommend the Deck Doctor to anyone who wants above average work for a below average price.

Recent Review: I was very impressed with both the quality of David's work and the prices he charged. Very reasonable. We needed a lot of small items corrected before we listed our house. David was more than willing to do them all and was very punctual doing them. His follow through was excellent. It was a pleasure dealing with such a professional. I will definitely use him again if needed and will recommend him to others.

Recent Review: Rick listened to what we needed done, then gave us options for completing the projects.  He advised us regarding appropriate materials and assisted with purchasing them, and he provided all the appropriate tools.  He was very professional, and each task was completed to our satisfaction before another was started.  He worked diligently and did not waste time.I would definitely recommend using Rick for any carpentry/general handymen jobs!

Recent Review: Our roof had been badly managed for decades; it's a late Victorian home, and it's passed through many hands ... not all of whom were responsible (or capable) owners. When Sprout arrived, we had at least two layers of poorly applied shingles all over everything. The flashing was made of old tar that was peeling off, the roof edges were rotting off, and a section of the gutters had already separated from the wood - threatening to topple into the yard. On top of all that, we were starting to see serious damage on the porch, and water collecting under the house due to the draining issues (leading to mold problems). But Sprout did a wonderful job - and everything looks 100% better now. They were prompt, thorough, and they did a fantastic job cleaning up after themselves. Our back porch/patio area looks better than before they arrived. They were even friendly to the dog - and went out of their way to clean up the back yard first, so we could let him out to do his business in the mornings and evenings. I recommend Sprout whole-heartedly - and in fact, I'm looking to use this company again with regards to some exterior trim work that needs some touching up. Two thumbs up!

Reviews in Flat Rock to Repair Exterior Trim

BPirate Paint
I had originally purchased a Big Deal to get some painting done, and the original company I purchased it from had gotten busy and had to use subcontractors to get some of the work done. So they sent out Pirate Paint to do the work at my home. I had used Pirate Paint before to get some handyman work done in the past. When he came out to do the painting, he didn't even bring the proper tools to paint. He didn't present himself as a professional painter. He had to borrow stuff from me, which gave me a bad impression. He overestimated what he could do in the amount of time he had and the amount he quoted me. But he and his worker worked hard. He was friendly and I have no complaints about the quality of the work. He was friendly and meant well. He also paid him directly, even though I had already paid the price of the Big Deal to the company that he was subcontracted for. He does seem to have some ability and he works efficiently. I think he's really trying to do well and to get a business going. I might use him as a handyman again but not as a painter.

FGallet Handyman Services
I contracted with Gallet Services to repair or service a variety of smaller projects on the inside and outside of my home and agreed to pay a daily fee of $300.  On the first day he showed up at 9:30 a.m. and left a little after 4:00 p.m. but wanted to charge me the full daily rate.  He also stopped for a short lunch. He attempted repairs to some wood trim on front porch columns.  The trim came apart a short time after he made the repairs leaving them in worse shape than before he started.  When he was shown photographs of the trim, he said he would repair it again for an additional $150.He painted a back entry door with the incorrect white paint.  At the time he did this, I mentioned it looked wrong and he said it was due to the fact the new door was metal.  In fact, it was the wrong paint and it is painfully obvious.  He refused to correct this problem. He painted the media room but did not blend the paint around light fixtures, etc.  In full light it looks OK, but in dimmed light it can be seen clearly. He varnished the front door leaving streaks, runs, and drips all over requiring the door to be sanded and redone. On the last day he was at my home, he convinced my wife to pay him in full (even though he had not dealt with her on any of the repairs).  This took away whatever leverage I would have enjoyed and was a "smart move" on his part. Gallet Services did substandard work at premium prices, refused to correct inadequate repairs and services, and took his money and ran before I could get home to inspect and approve the work. UPDATE: I have read the response to my review written by Gallet Handyman Services.  All I can say is my initial review is 100% accurate.  The rates he mentioned about less than four hours or more than four hours are brand new to me....totally and utterly false.

BAndy OnCall
We are still in the middle of this project, however I'm writing now as there appears to be requests for information on this business. My experience has been mixed, but mostly good. Initial response time was good. Bid seemed high for what I was asking to be done, but there weren't a lot of options at the time I was looking for help as we'd just had a lot of storms in our area and help was hard to find. I appreciated that Andy on Call has workers who can do many jobs. Other positives: friendly and nice people; they kept in touch with me when I needed to put the job on hold so another contractor could do work that the Andy on Call worker wasn't able to do on the ceilings. The major problem, and I take at least half of the responsibility for this issue, is that I thought it was stated that the bid for the job included fixing and texturing ceilings after they were scraped. But, had I read more carefully the written bid, it did not say that. It just said scraping and painting the ceilings. The ceilings were partially scraped due to the old popcorn taking off some of the sheetrock. Result was I had to contract with another company to come in to repair and texture the ceilings...another $2000! This has been a learning experience. Make sure you know what to ask for...attempt to anticipate anything and everything that can go wrong...if you expect it to be done, get it in writing, even if you think it was talked about. Ask the contractor to break down the work into materials and labor costs in writing, in the bid. AND ask how much time (days/hours) they think it will take to complete the job as well as what problems they might run into that may slow things down and increase costs.
