Recent Review: The job went very well a little longer then we excpected but that was due to all the water damage our shower in the other bathroom caused from years earlier. The bathroom was completely tore down to the studs in one day. The next two days were replaceing the floor studs in the floor that hold up the floor. Then on the second day a Jack and support beams wear placed on both ends of the bathroom under the floor to give better support to the floor, and all the plywood was replaced along with all the plumbing and electrical was redone. The Third day all the drywall boards were hung and in the afternoon anther man and helper showed up to "mud the walls" as Mr. Denton put it. On the fourth day the bathroom was painted with a first coat of paint and then the new tub and surround was installed. On the Fourth day the vanity and sink was put in place and a second coat of paint was applied. On the Fifth day the mirror and light switch was installed and concrete board and some orange membrane thing with a German name was put down. The following Monday the tile was done Then on Tuesday the grout,  towel bars and toilet went in along with all the final touches were done. I was very impressed. GREAT JOB!!!

Recent Review: Called out 5 contractors for estimates one was Dynamic Home Improvement. They set a time of 1 pm to visit me and within 25 minutes (10 am) they They were here in an hour of me calling. They were polite and eager to look at the task at hand. Once inside my house they measured across my kitchen, bathroom and the shower. and measured the walls that needed the waynes coat removed. Shot me a price $3000 to remove the 40 year old lathe and subway tile from my shower, Remove waynes coat and redrywall the bathroom walls and repaint it.. Then put it all back together I also wanted the back spash on my kitchen tiled. They were here and gone in 20 minutes.   Now I know something about bids and who is trust worthy for jobs we have bought and sold 5 homes in our life and I have renovated every one of them a little at a time. 3 Kitchens, 7 bathrooms, 4 decks, a bedroom addition, a master bathroom addition even one 2 car garage. I have been around the block when it comes to contractors and i know who is good and who to watch out for.  My kitchen  is 200 square feet, the bathroom is 27 square feet  which 239 tile will be need to lay the floor (5% over the square footage) my tile with tax is 497.12. Labor only should cost 597.50 to just lay the tile on floor. There is linoleum and old school tile that needs to be taken up and the space needs to be brought down to the original sub floor. the removal of the two floors (linoleum and old school tile) should cost about 454.00 dollars to remove. Then a thin mud base should be applied to the sub floor with hardy backer put on top and 15 screws should be applied to each piece of hardy backer using hardy backer screws. once that is in place thinset should be used to adhere each tile to the floor. Hardy backer for 227 square feet is 159.68 for 16 sheets and there should be 227.00 dollars to lay that hardy backer and 66.00 for the 3 bags of then set and 22.55 for a big bag of grout. Total for floor cost 2023.85 This alos covered the cost of replacing 3 floor joist and removing and replacing all 27 squarefeet of rotten sub floor in my bathroom??? What do you think it should cost to do that? Try another thousand dollars. Now my shower shouldis 3X3 at 8 foot tall the square footage is 81 square feet to rip out a shower with lathe should be 150.00 and replace it is $343 in labor cost then to build a shampoo box is another 100.00 then there is putting in a new pan I perfer a shluter system at 450.00 for the kit and then 7 sheets of hardy backer at 68.86 mud alread included and left over from floor and then 168.48 for the cost of tile and an extra 62.02 for some decor tile and beveled for the edges. Plus a new shower valve and plumbing parts 148.22 for a shower total of 1617.30 Then there is the back splash 20 lenar feet. at 12 inch is high. It will take 120 six inch tileto do the entire backsplash 114.08 and thin set should be left over and grout. Labor should run about  250.00  for a total on the back splash 364.08 Remove 132 square feet of drywall re hang, tape and float and repaint walls. Material cost 5 sheets of drywall, small bucket of mud and one gallon of paint. 91.00 labor to complete job 376.00 Grand total of job cost $4017.00 and $5017 if they removed the sub floor in the bathroom and replaced the 8 ft long floor trusses. This company is 1017 to 2017 less then the usual cost. I wouldnt  trust these guys to rake my yard they were here to fast and gone to quick they are loud and to hyper and then their bid was so off of what is normal for a good contractor. Watch it with this group. I am sure they have additional prices after they get your stuff ripped up and from what i found out from the Better Business Bureau they have complaints for over charging and not doing what they contract says.

CDevine's Flooring America
Sales and purchase went fine.  They installed on the days they said they would.  However, the installation is terrible.  Tiles are not straight and aligned, grout widths vary.  Door jambs were not prepared properly leaving large gaps for grout to be packed in.  Two pieces of tile at the door threshold were installed with different grout widths.  The tile is not level with some pieces high and some low.  I have grout adhesive all over my garage floor.  They washed out the grout adhesive buckets in my front yard leaving adhesive in the grass. I believe the tile installer was Eddy.  Billy came to do the grout installation.  He expressed disappointment with the tile installation.  He did what he could do.  I have left a message for the Owner of company to call me...he has not.  I am not seeking repairs because I do not want the room disassembled again nor miss the time from work to be there for them to replace it.  I am wanting others to be aware of this so they get the right installer.

AAct One Cleaning
I found Act One on Angie's list. I was impressed with the reviews. I contacted Act One and received a visit from Mr. Hamiton that same day.  He looked at the job and explained the process he would use to get my grout and area rug clean.  On the schedule day of service he arrived with an assistant at the stated time. His work was excellent. He also guarantees your satisfaction. His services were very reasonably priced.

AThe Grout Medic of Huntsville
The service tech arrived 5 minutes early.  He also was very polite. He covered all the other floors with drop cloths to protect them. He removed the water damaged tiles .  He kept the surrounding area clean and protected as he installed new tiles and matched the grout color I had.   He came back latter and cleaned and sealed the rest of the bathroom floors and walls.   The second service tech did a excellent job cleaning and sealing the kitchen and bathroom floors.   They explained to me how long it takes to dry. And also what I can do to further care for my floors.   I would recommed them to my neighbors and family.

ASweet Home Repairs and Remodeling
We have a home built in the early 80s and at almost 20 years old things are starting to fall apart and need repairs. I am a religious watcher of DYI T.V. shows. I have even read Mike Holmes book " Make it Right" and that is how I learned how to hire a good contractor. I had contacted several companies before I settled most of which were to busy doing other things when they were suppose to be at my house on a scheduled day to give me a estimate. Then again some would show and I could tell they had no idea what they were talking about. Then there was the 2 that stood out and so I chose Sweet Home Repairs. Mr Denton the owner took the time to discribe each step that they would do and how they would put it all back together. Day 1: They started and they totally dismantled my entire bathroom minus the drywall on the ceiling. Day 2: Started off with them repairing the floor supports  because the old tile leaked, re-running new water lines and replaced the unsafe receptical that was located in the lower wall near the bath tub to a safer place near the vanity and with  a GFI. Last they installed plywood on the floor Day 3: Installed all new drywall on the walls and concrete board on the floor and walls where tile would go back up.  All the concrete boards were sealed with a orange stuff called Kerdie . Day 4: They installed the new bathtub and laid all the tile on the floor. Day 5: Came in that morning and installed all the tile on the tub wall and around the wall of the bathroom.  then grouted everything.  Day 6: came in installed the pedistal sink , toilet towel bars and new toilet paper dispensor and cleaned everything. By 2 pm they were done and on there way

I wish I had never used this person to do the work we had done. Sloppy painting, runs everywhere. Did not use 2 coats of paint, can see brush strokes. Can see seams where drywall was pieced together. Did not puddy to cover seams before painting. Missed many spots when painting. Ceramic tile in one bathroom came apart after one week. came back to repair it and now ceramic tile has cracks all in it along with grout. Tried to fire this person and he begged us not to, reluctantly we kept him. Very sorry we did. Sorry workmanship in everything done. Also, when breaking out old tile from one bathroom, they (him and his worker) busted holes in an adjoining closet. That had to be patched up. All in all very shoddy work done. Did not want to listen to how we wanted work done, did it his way instead. Seem to get tired of working toward the end. Was gung ho in the beginning, I think he got in over his head and wouldn't admit he couldn't do some of the work. He was the son of a friend and it is so true, never do business with friends or family. Definitely would not hire him again, not even to build a bird house.

Writing this almost 2 years after install because I felt threatened at the time by this man and also the tile job has now gone from really bad to worse. Got what we paid for. Should’ve known not to go w/ lowest installation bid, but we were handling renovations long distance & the house is located way out in the country, so pickings were slim on installers. Chose this guy (Frank Allen of Touchstone Custom Tile) based on angieslist reviews. Started w/ just kitchen backsplash, to see how he did. The pics he sent looked good, so hired him to do the flooring too. He apparently cherry picked what he photographed of backsplash because in person there were major issues. On floor tile, grout was completely missing in places right off the bat (reluctantly decided we could fix this ourselves & refused to call him back to fix) and now we have tiles actually coming up in several places. Pics attached. The problems started early on w/ Frank. He kept calling saying things like he “forgot” to calculate cement board in estimate. Ok benefit of doubt & agreed to higher price. Then he wanted more $$ for demo (which was supposedly included). Then he’d call and say there’s a problem- such as the space between cabinet & window isn’t straight. Ok? You’re the tile guy, figure out a plan. (Pic attached) Then he had piled up a mountain of debris on Family room floor (whole house was being renovated & there was a place to dump large trash right outside door) but he refused to move the pile without even more $$$. My husband said don’t touch it & we’d deal with it, just finish the job. He rec’d a deposit check for materials upfront plus another check along the way- all of which was ok, yet he harassed me for hours via text & phone demanding final payment before the job was complete (despite the fact I told him numerous times I was working & couldn’t talk). I told him he’d get final check upon completion, so he then started calling my husbands 72 year old aunt who was the local point of contact and asking her for his check. He even had nerve to tell me I needed to leave positive review on Angieslist. Really?! My husband got fed up and drove 14 hours to get things straight, pay the man, and tell him not to ever contact me or his aunt again. I totally regret hiring him & now will need to spend thousands to fix everything- again. (Date of work is estimate as I can’t recall exact dates)
