Recent Review: I hired Steven to replace the weatherstripping on two entry doors.  I picked Steven because of the positive reviews I read on Angie's list and I was not disappointed.  He was professional, friendly, and he seems very talented - a guy that can fix almost anything.  Steven was also willing to do the work on my schedule and arrived on time at 7am.  This allowed me to minimize my time away from work. Steven installed the new weatherstripping carefully and the work was neat and clean.

Recent Review: Paul was very punctual and did a great job. He worked fast and efficiently and when we noticed a piece of the new weather strip on one of the doors had a tear in it, he went out to get new weather stripping and promptly replaced it. Great job.

Recent Review: We had an excellent experience with Eco Three.  Jonathan, Elizabeth and all of their crew were professional and efficient from start to finish.  We have a small, cottage style home built in the 1940s.  It was drafty in the winter and hot in the summer.  We knew we wanted to improve our home's comfort while we live here but we don't plan on living in this home for more than 5 years so we didn't want to spend a fortune on these improvements (i.e. replacing windows, etc).   Eco Three was able to come and evaluate our home and tell us exactly what improvements would help its comfort and efficiency in the immediate future.  They also broke the improvements down by how quickly we would see return on our investment.  The team was able to complete all of the improvements in one day.  The day they were scheduled to work it was pouring rain but they did not let that affect them and they kept our home dry and clean while they were working.  They even did a few small "extra" improvements to our ductwork without charging extra for it!  We noticed the difference in the comfort of our home the very next day!  We are already seeing savings in our electric and gas bills each month.  Our only regret - we wish we had called them sooner!

The price was competitive. I received a free estimate from them. They were prompt in scheduling the work. They completed the work just outside the designated time frame, which was fine with me. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

Overall I think this is a good company. Very professional and punctual. Not low priced but this is probably a case of paying for lower risk. They did very well on most items and not so well on others but they were punctual and straightforward with me and I appreciate that.

I was thoroughly pleased with my experience with Andy On Call, from the first phone call with a quick response, to the completion of the work.   The representative (I wish I could remember his name) was on time, efficient, friendly, professional, and neat.  What a refreshing experience compared to the price gauging we are used to just because we live in an upscale neighborhood.  I highly recommend Andy On Call.

All work was done by Handy Man, James. First utility room floor replaced and this went fine. After that part of job, I had to keep pointing out to James the unfinished items like raw edges on new flooring, quarter round, etc. The screen door was re-screened fine and new hinges were fine. Problem here as every job after the rebuilding of utility room floor, is that he left things half-way done at the end of the job. I had to tell him over and over to "install a catch on the face of door for screen door to close in to," and such on other things he worked on. He really screwed up the locks --- simply did not know what he was doing. The worse part is he would say ridiculous things like, "oh that is as far as the bolt goes into the wall, IT IS SAFER THAT WAY." I think only an idiot would believe this. At this point I called the owner, Mr Cohn, who sent a locksmith out who took 15 minutes to have the dead blot fully going into the recess on the door jam. James actually left my house in unsafe mode and told me a tall tale rather than admit he didn't know how to do the lock. It was one incidence after the other like this. Though my last complaint about James is on a simple job, it highlights his overall attitude: He had put weather stripping at the bottom of my Kitchen to Utility room door (this opened to outside at one time). The stripping he put down scrubbed against the floor "heavily," and as the last thing he did, I asked him to raise the piece of stripping. He was back there for a couple of minutes and come out to leave, "all through," he said. I said, "that was fast." Well the door was still scrubbing "heavily." I thought he had just not raised it enough and after listening to it for a couple more days, I took the strip off myself (it is a very simple thing), BUT to my great surprise, even after all the "at least 2 dozen times I had to tell him about a problem," JAMES HAD NOT EVEN MOVED THE STRIP. How do I know? There was not a second set of nail holes!!!!! He was incompetent in several areas of the job. NO ONE CHECKED ON THE JOB PROCESS AS ADVERTISED. Only when I called Mr Cohn toward the end did anyone check on the handyman. Oh, one last thing, my dryer vents into the floor into basement and then to the outside of house. A few days after James left, I noticed the outside piece was askew and upon further investigation in the basement, I found that JAMES HAD NOT EVEN ATTACHED THE HOSE FROM THE FLOOR VENT TO THE VENT HOSE THAT RAN TO THE OUTSIDE. He cannot be this inexperienced. So I can only assume that as with everything (after the laundry room floor) he was just not concerned about the quality. I guess he also did not think I knew ANYTHING about ANYTHING. .....Mr Cohn took 15% off my bill (the net amount I paid was $2000 AFTER DISCOUNT AND $250 ANGIE'S LIST COUPON). Mr Cohn did try to make things right: ex, he sent an electrician out to finish another thing James had "Not finished," and turns out James's explanation to me was nothing remotely the problem with the electrical item. ....THE PROBLEM IS THAT I SPENT TONS OF TIME "SHOWING "JAMES WHAT HE HAD LEFT UNDONE, UNFINISHED, OR CALLING AND RECALLING THE OFFICE ABOUT "LOCKS" "ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" AND OH YES DON'T FORGET THE AMAZING DRYER VENTING --- WHAT A JOKE! The cabinet door catches were a joke too --- I had to install different ones that actually worked. Why pay someone $62.50 per hour (a discount price from the usual $85 an hour Handyman charge) when I can hook up a dryer and put on cabinet hardware and weather stripping myself. I can also call a locksmith to change locks and an electrician to fix electrical problems. My advise is don't hire Case handyman and expect that as a professional he will have an expert come in when needed. This is what company advertises --- it just does not happen.

I was extremely impressed with Jonathan's professionalism and knowledge.  He has a background in home inspection and the evaluation included an examination of the exterior and interior of the house, including the attic and basement/garage/crawlspace.  His chief worker had worked as an electrician and he checked the wiring.  With these two, I felt I had a mini home inspection and electrical inspection included in this evaluation.  I had many questions about houses and insulation and I received clear answers, with reference to current building codes in my jurisdiction.  Jonathan and his crew arrived on time (or slightly early) for the appointments and Jonathan was very responsive to communication via phone or email.  They worked with my schedule and were considerate of my formerly feral cats, including the new foundling in the bathroom.  The work took place over two days and the crew cleaned up after the work and even repaired the ill-fitting access hatch to the attic.  I learned that, in older homes, there is much leakage of winter cold air into the walls since the tops in the attic are not sealed and that there are many areas in the floors and walls for cold air to come into the house from the basement/crawlspace, around wiring and plumbing.  These were all sealed and insulated.  The areas of ductwork around the point where it goes into the house (behind the grates) were replaced and sealed with insulating foam.  The hatch to the attic and the area around the whole house fan were insulated and weather stripped.  Weather stripping was placed around the doors and a blanket covered the hot water heater in the basement.  Insulation was blown into the attic. The first thing I noticed upon coming into my house was how quiet it is now!  There are no drafts, even as cold as it's been this week (in the teens and 20s at night).  I'm sure the energy bills will be lower. I highly recommend Jonathan and the Eco Three team!

In December Eco Three performed an energy audit for our home (the $79 service). The had a professional approach. They took pictures of all of the problems they found. The pictures included infrared photos showing cold spots throughout the home. They also measured the air infiltration at roughly 6400 cfm for our 1900 sq ft 60+ year old home. They provided all of this in a detailed report and a quote for remedial work ($5607). This included sealing interior wall caps, sealing our attic stairs, sealing and disabling an attic fan, sealing all ductwork and reinsulating where necessary (a substantial amount of work in this house), spraying insulation in our two attics, weather stripping doors and windows, sealing where duct vents entered the home, etc.  We scheduled remedial work for Feb 1 for two days. They arrived on time, completed the work in two days as promised, achieving a reduction to 3200 cfm of air infiltration and a much more comfortable home. We have had a couple of cold spells since then and greatly enjoyed the increased comfort. We used to have to huddle under blankets to watch tv in our family room on cold nights, but the cold drafts have stopped. We have yet to experience one of our Birmingham summers to see if our AC can now keep up on our hottest days (which it could not do in recent years).  They do have room for improvement. They failed to properly take into account that we use one of our two attics for storage. The solution they provided did a good job of insulating and sealing the attic and the opening for the attic stairs but a poor job of providing access and storage space. They did not give us an understanding before the project of how their work would affect use of the attic storage space. End the end the old attic stairs could not work with their solution and we ended up having them remove the stairs (temporarily keeping the door). Their solution for insulating the space above the stairs made it much to difficult to access the attic. They could have foreseen these problems and included addressing them in the scope of work. We have since replaced the stairs and reworked the attic access. It appears that they had no experience with stairs of our vintage. They do now. All in all we like the company and remain pleased with the overall results.
