Heather Cox Artisan
Recent Review: We hiredHeather Cox Artisan to repaint our kitchen cabinets. The quality work she did for us was outstanding. She wasn’t satisfied with okay, it had to be great. She didn’t try to nickel and dime us to death, she bid the job and completed it for the bid price. There were some additional things that we had her do for which we paid extra, but her pricing for that work was extremely fair. We would hire her again in a heartbeat. When we first talked with Heather she recommended replacing the drawers in our cabinets and adding soft closers to both the drawers and the cabinets. At first we were reluctant to do that because of the additional cost, but in the end decided that it would be in our best interest to do those things. Because she was well into the project when we made that change it extended the amount of time that the project took. It was not Heather’s fault that it took additional time, because we could’ve made that decision upfront when she could’ve ordered all the materials and save the time. That being said, her advice should’ve been followed right out front. The soft closers to the cabinet doors and drawers, as well as replacing the drawer boxes, will definitely add to the value of our house when we sell the house at sometime in the future.

Odd Job Construction
Recent Review: The back splash and floor installations were stellar.  We couldn't compliment him enough on those.  The painting was sloppy. Existing nail holes in the walls were not properly filled in, sanded, and painted (even after they returned to do that). The newly stretched carpeting was to be cleaned, had been paid for but not done. We are snowbirds who live in Wisconsin in the summer and Alabama in the winter.  We bought a park model home in Spanish Cove in January 2015.  One end was about 2-1/2 inches lower than the other, due to settling; so we asked neighbors for recommendations for contractors who do that type of work. Ryan of Odd Job Construction came highly recommended, having done work for neighbors.  When we called him, he came promptly and returned with an estimate equally promptly.  We got on his schedule fairly quickly.  He did a good job for a good price in a reasonable amount of time.  We then showed him some inside work we wanted done and asked for an estimate.  The estimate, we felt, was fair and we were glad to offer him the job.  We told him he could do the work any time after we left Alabama for the summer (April 15) and that he be done by the time we returned for the winter (October 15).  We paid him 2/3 ($2,200) up front and agreed to give him the last third upon completion. We asked him to please keep in touch and to send pictures.  At the beginning of July, we got a phone call saying he was done, could we please make the final payment.  He sent six small cell phone pictures of the cupboards; and, although we couldn't attest to the quality of the work, we could see that the work was done so I sent the final payment.  There was no more communication between us during the months of July, August or September.  On October 10, I texted him to say we were ready to return, was everything ready for us?  He said it would be and he'd leave the key on the kitchen counter.  When we got here on the 18th of October, we could see that the carpets, although stretched nicely, had not been shampooed, all of the furniture which he said would be back in place was still piled on the beds, and we saw more and more indications of the roughness of the paint job.  It doesn't appear that painters tape was used as the colors overlap.  Some areas had only one coat, small areas (ends of the baseboards) had none.  I called him and left a message that I needed him to call ASAP.  He called, said he'd be there or call first thing Monday morning.  He didn't call or show up Monday or Tuesday, called Wednesday to say he'd be here at 4:00 Thursday.  No show at 4:00; got a text at 4:07 saying it'd be 6:00; finally arrived at 6:30. Told me he had been sick and in the hospital the previous week and that's why it wasn't finished. As miserable as his ailment sounded, it fell on relatively deaf ears, as he had told me three months prior that he was done and wanted payment which I sent.  The reason for the poor appearance of the painting was the fault of the wood that the "trailer" cabinets are made out of and my fault for changing my mind 5 times before he started.  He did a small amount of repairs and left and I haven't heard from him since. He had given us the card of a man who could do carpets and agreed he would pay for that since I'd already paid him to do it.  I texted him to tell him the carpet cleaner was coming Monday and how could we get the money here-----I've heard nothing.  We called in another contractor to assess the job and found out that the wrong type of paint was used on the cupboards.  Perhaps he still doesn't feel good. I don't know, but I have work that needs finishing.

ACertaPro Painters® of Mobile & Baldwin Counties
CertaPro arrived on time the day they were scheduled.  All work was done professionally.  They went above and beyond to ensure that we were happy with their services. They covered and protected the floors, furniture and fixtures to prevent any paint from splattering.  They left the area as clean as they found it. The workers were very friendly and courteous. We would highly recommend CertaPro to our friends and family!
