Recent Review: Wilkes representative was very professional and very thorough. They were our second choice of five companies and the only reason we did not go with their firm was pricing. They were approximately 25% higher for comparable equipment than the firm we selected. We also asked for estimates on complete ductwork replacement. Wilkes was more in line with the market on this. They will definitley be a contender when we have this work done.

Recent Review: see details previously cited. Jon Wayne misdiagnosed overall problem and referred us to electrician to fix electrical box. Electrician said prob was something grounding inside outside a/c unit, which was also diagnosis by Lowes rep and TEXPERTS who told us they offered free 2nd opinions. TEXPERTS actually demonstrated proof of which part was malfunctioning and offered to repair or replace only that part. Since the unit has been malfunctioning 3yrs in a row EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY 7 yrs old, we asked for and received a quote to replace both inside and outside units as well as do ductwork replacement and attic insulation installation. When Craig did walk thru a few days after units & ductwork were installed, he found a few things not done to his expectations, and he got crews back early Sunday morning to re-do/finish up to his expectations. We have been VERY PLEASED with entire TEXPERTS staff & experience.

Recent Review: This is the second time I've had Shafer do this -- once in my previous house and now in this one. I know they do good work and will treat me well. The two units in this house were 30 years old, and though they were still functioning, they were noisy and inefficient, and I knew they were on their last legs. I have a service contract with Shafer, and when they came out to do the spring AC check they said the system was too dangerous because of its condition, that we risked fatal gas leaks. Booth came out and spent a lot of time figuring out just what we needed, both for the size and layout of our house and the way we lived. He returned with options and spent a lot more time going over them with us, discussing factors including upfront cost, long-range cost because of differences in efficiency and kinds of units, and financing.  Within days, a team, including Booth, came out to plan for the installation, which was a "unique challenge," as they said, because of the age of the old units, which were in the attic and installed upright instead of horizontal, and the old ductwork, which was configured oddly and not in a way that was good for us. It all had to come out through the attic hatch and ladder. Some of the attic had been turned into storage rooms which had to be cut into to remove and install ductwork. Some rooms in the house needed new vents installed and others blocked, and some new returns were needed. Basically, they needed to start from scratch after removing all the old parts. They estimated four days to complete the job and it took almost five because of a few unanticipated problems, but they guaranteed their original price. Oscar, Charlie and Steve were a pleasure to have in the house. They put down runners to keep the floors clean, swept up every day when they finished, did what they could to keep our lives normal, were pleasant, worked hard and even liked our dogs, who were not happy at all about the disturbance of their lives. Michelle, who mans (or womans) the phones, always keeps us informed about who is coming and when, and always knows what's happening. As good as everyone at Shafer is, I think she is what keeps the place functioning smoothly.

Not very well over time. I would recommend a second opinion before any major investment with this company. Some major work done may have been unnecessary. A new unit that worked well for a few years developed a major 2 year problem of not pulling humidity after they started working on it, leading to major ductwork replacement. They reinstalled and reworked my duct system and placed one of the units where only Spider-Man could change a whole house AC filter. The ultimate solution later was they found a switch was in the wrong position on the outdoor unit -that made no sense because the unit had no humidity problem for years. Someone must have worked on the unit and flipped the wrong switch. Just get a second opinion before any major work is my recommendation.

We have used this company in the past with no problems, until this change out. They promised to take the old unit out and have a new unit installed in one day. They installed a unit that is two years old and heat strips were missing. They said the SEER was 14, but it is in fact 12 SEER, and they misplaced the (as in lost) thermostat. The job began 23 May 06 and is still not finished, as there are air leaks in the installed ductwork. The unit will at times run up to 9 hours before shutting off. They were rude, argumentative, didn't show up for several days to work on finishing installation, very bad about not staying in contact and returning calls, not prepared to do the job, and had problems with employee turnover. The owner/operator, Pace, is not licensed. Due to space restriction, I can't list everything about Air American. I will not recommend this company.
