The technician misdiagnosed the problem. The control panel sits on top of the door when closed and can get water on it, since it's next to the sink. He said water was getting into it because of a faulty installation. However, it's a sealed unit and there's no way for water to get into it. Furthermore, he confused the control panel with the control board, which is sealed inside the door, when he reported to the home warranty company. As a result of his misdiagnosis, the home warranty company denied a claim for repair. We're out the $75 with nothing to show for it. This company may be fine for painting, deck cleaning/staining, lawn care, etc., but I would not trust them with appliance repair.
