Recent Review: When Leslie Konarske arrived at our home for the estimate, she brought her carpenter, Philip. I was impressed! They went over the list of extensive repairs, painting, interior and exterior work I had for them. (We ended up breaking the projects down into Phase 1 - Exterior, and Phase 2 - Interior). They set to work examining each item and asking questions to determine exactly what I wanted done. They offered suggestions on my options. Leslie said she would have an estimate for me in a day or two, and she did. The estimate was broken down by Phases. (Phase 1, exterior repairs and painting, and interior painting of the ceilings and walls) went without a hitch in November 2015). Estimates were grouped by type (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.). This made it easy to decide what we wanted to keep and what we would wait on. Leslie gave us several options for lighting the kitchen, beyond the one island light we had already decided on. We ended up adding more lighting than originally planned, which cost several thousand dollars more, but there were no surprises; all the costs were clearly stated right from the beginning. It was up to us to decide exactly how much we wanted to spend. Phase 2, The Kitchen Project, commenced January 4, 2016. Leslie walked us through the process, every step of the way. She narrowed down paint color choices for us, as well as tile (backspash) and granite (countertop) options. We wanted to create a flow between the living area and kitchen (we have an open floor plan), and integrate the varied tile colors we have on our floors and one wall with the new kitchen countertop and backsplash. We succeeded beautifully. We chose to retain our cabinetry, complicating the removal of the old backsplash tile and countertops. Philip did a great job, with no damage to the existing cabinetry. He also built the new shelving units and installed them, and installed the oak panels over the old laminate that faced the sides of our cabinetry. He did a fabulous job cutting and fitting together the new crown molding. Javier painted the ceilings and walls and stained the new oak additions. He also cleaned and re-sealed all the existing cabinetry, giving them a fresh new look that blended with the new pieces. He is a master at wall and ceiling repair, as well. The electrical project involved removal of the huge rectangular florescent light box, taping, floating and texturing the ceiling, adding 6 new can lights, 4 new under counter lights, and a beautiful eye-catching center island light. Also, new light switches and wiring. We went with Leslie's recommendations on lighting, and we are so happy with that decision. We have task lighting, a functional and beautiful island light, and great overhead illumination. Leslie gave us a couple of granite options, which made it much easier for us to choose when that day came. The granite installation went without a hitch. Counters were installed perfectly level, so when the backsplash went in, the installer had no problem ensuring the tile was level. Our new sink was installed, and the plumber also reinstalled the garbage disposal, and RO system, and he attached the dishwasher to the cabinetry. He also hooked up the gas cooktop. As with every project, there are times when questions come up, and Leslie was always available to us. She was present at critical junctures, and always performed an inspection of work before the next step proceeded. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that Leslie (a licensed general contractor and designer) was with us every step of the way. She has the highest of standards, and expects her crew to adhere to those standards. The team she put together was consistently punctual, courteous and professional. The job site was always clean at the end of the day. The project was completed within the time frame Leslie estimated (4 to 6 weeks). We are so pleased with the transformation of our kitchen from dingy, tired old tile to a light-filled modern workspace. The view into the kitchen from the living area enhances, rather than detracts, from the overall appearance of our home. We look forward to working with Leslie and her team again!
